How to decorate a boy's bedroom (4 to 8 years)

Blues and greens combine to make a striking feature wall and are a good foil for warm, wood furniture and natural flooring. Cheerful motifs on the window treatment add to the sense of fun and create a welcoming look.

How to make it work
•A tepee makes an exciting den and will give your child a sense of his own space and privacy, while a desk painted to match the scheme will act as a quiet corner for homework.
•Create piles of cushions for a play area using fabric in co-ordinated stripes, dots and checks that blend with the overall colour scheme.
•Hard-wearing, honey-toned oak furniture should last your child well into the teenage years. Bunks or a trundle bed are ideal for sleepovers.
