WINNER: A LA CARTE TABLEWARE
Designed by Robin Platt & Cairn Young for Rosenthal AG
Price £50 for a boxed set of three pieces (plate, soup plate and bowl)
Contact Rosenthal Studio-haus, www.rosenthal.de, and independent retailers

The latest project by British designers Robin Platt and Cairn Young is their successful and unusual A la Carte range of porcelain tableware, developed in conjunction with Rosenthal. Together they have designed and manufactured bowls, soup plates and plates in curvaceous, fluid and geometric forms, which provide a new and eye-catching look for the table. It was this approach that particularly appealed to the judges. In addition, producing the shapes is an extremely challenging process, and as tableware allows less scope for new ideas than certain other fields of design, both Rosenthal and the designers were commended for their success with this range.

The judges commented: “It is rare to find interesting tableware that does not rely heavily on surface pattern, and it was a brave decision for this company to take the costly route of devising not one but six new forms.”
