JOINT WINNER: HUME REVOLVING BOOK TOWER
Designed by Samuel Chan for Channels
Price £1,550

Designed by London-based furniture designer Samuel Chan, the Hume revolving book tower is a compact bookcase that swivels an entire 360 degrees. Unlike stationary bookshelves, where the contents can be stored on one side only, this book tower is a complex three-dimensional piece of furniture with storage for books and discs on all four sides. Samuel's aim was to bring what he describes as “the most traditional of rooms” – the private library – up to date.
The judges all agreed that he has been successful, commenting: “Samuel Chan has managed to update the bookstand for the 21st century with elegance and sensitivity.”
JOINT WINNER: CROSS EXTENDING TABLE
Designed by Matthew Hilton for Case Furniture
Price £1,450

Matthew Hilton designed the Cross Dining Table for the inaugural collection of London-based Case Furniture, which was launched last year. The judges, who loved the winning combination of good design, proportion, price and functionality, agreed that the table is a perfect example of Matthew's talents.
Made from a solid oak base with a veneered top, it is unusually large – when extended it can seat up to 14 people – yet retains a visual balance due to the thickness of the table top. While it is definitely a design classic, it is also a table that is designed for use.
