HOMES & GARDENS CELEBRATES THE BEST CONTEMPORARY DESIGN AT THE V&A
Barbara Hulanicki, Kelly Hoppen, Sir David Chipperfield, and Ben de Lisi were among the guests at the presentation of the 2010 Homes & Gardens Classic Design Awards at the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington.
Hosted by TV personality Judith Chalmers, the biggest winner of the night was Sir James Dyson, who collected two prizes for his Air Multiplier™ fan and the event's ultimate accolade, the Lifetime Achievement Award. New design talent included Benjamin Hubert, who won the Young Designer's Category for 'A Year In the Making,' a collection of eight ranges of furniture and lighting.
The event also offered good news for John Lewis, already celebrating a jump in profits; the retailer was awarded Design Retailer Of The Year for the second year running.
'You only need to look back over the last century to appreciate that great design has always been countercyclical. It thrives in spite of the vagaries of the economy,' said IPC Southbank Managing Director, Jackie Newcombe, who introduced the awards.
