After meeting at the Royal College of Art almost a decade ago, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have gone on to create one of the most prolific and fertile working partnerships on the British design scene. A quality common to all their work is a deceptive simplicity that is the product of a painstaking development process. The Zero-In table is no exception. Made from moulded polyester in a high-gloss finish, the table with its unique design creates the illusion of “hovering” slightly above the floor and, thanks to the dual wall, when viewed from above its sides appear to converge at a greater pitch than expected.

The confidence and the rigour with which the designers adhere to simplicity of form – and the way that they achieve it through extremely high production values – are what convinced the judges that this design should be recognised by the Classic Design Awards.
