Arabella St John Parker reports from the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show 2009.
Yellow flowers are back. The long reign of the purple, silver and white colour scheme is not exactly over, but yesterday it seemed that everywhere I looked, as I wandered around a rather windswept and shower-drenched Hampton Court Flower Show, I was greeted by cheerful yellow blooms, bobbing and bowing. Haemerocallis, disas, achilleas, dahlias and coreopsis, from dark golds to palest lemons, all caught my eye, and can be found on many of the various show gardens, as well as inside the Floral Marquee.
Similarly, grasses and heucheras of all varieties are a common feature for many of this year's exhibitors. Of the grasses, I particularly like the Briza maxim (Large Quaking Grass, Oak Tree Nursery, FM49), with its drooping ears that look like miniature eaves of corn, and Solva Plants's (FM4) display of Mahogany, Plum Pudding and Caramel heucheras was particularly tasty.
