I first fell in love with Parachute during a stay at one of my favorite design hotels: the Santa Monica Proper, designed by none other than Kelly Wearstler. 'Sofas are often the centerpiece of a room, and paisley turns them into a focal point that's both an artwork and a functional piece.'

'We recommend to our clients that lighting should be positioned at the front of the wardrobe to properly illuminate clothes, with consideration given to lumen (also described as LED wattage) and bulb color,' he says.

Controlling brightness in a wardrobe is essential. Designing a home on a private island in the Bahamas comes with a unique challenge: How do you make a luxury space feel incredibly sophisticated without competing with the ocean view? Faith Hill and Tim McGraw found the solution in their tropical estate.

While the architecture celebrates the great outdoors, their choice of coastal living room furniture brings the focus right back inside. By resisting more daring color trends, the couple proved that the most traditional choice is often the most impactful – starting with their white sofa.

Jennifer Aniston provides a masterclass in how to achieve it.

The actress's home bar is a destination in itself. Stephen Shadley, the mastermind designer behind Jennifer's Bel Air estate, explains that the custom walnut bar was 'literally carved into a wall' – making it integral to the architecture of her home. For a twist on classic lighting, he designed the pendant with found industrial glass, as a chic contrast with the wood. Most notably, nothing is out on the countertops, with all tools except spirits tucked cleanly away behind the bar.

As we get deeper into summer, we're dreaming about long nights around a similar setup in our own homes. To help you get there, Homes & Gardens spoke with Alicia Stark, Bartending and Drinks Expert at No.3 Gin, to explore what makes a home bar alluring in any space. She explains how to use design to facilitate a fun and sophisticated vibe, and dives into all her favorite tools of the trade. We'll begin with a glimpse into Jennifer Aniston's home to set the scene.

As much as perfecting your home bar is about materials and fixtures, it's also about building with functionality in mind. 'The bar should be a destination, not a service hatch,' explains Alicia. 'The ritual of preparation is part of the hospitality; don't hide it in the kitchen.'

She continues: 'Have a signature drink you make well and make confidently - guests don't want a menu; they want to feel looked after. And keep something non-alcoholic that's genuinely delicious - a well-made shrub, a quality tonic, a good sparkling water - so no one feels like an afterthought. The best bars, whether professional or personal, make every guest feel like the drink was made with them in mind.'

'Think like a bartender but live like a host,' advises Alicia. 'The golden rule is visibility creates intent - if you can see it, you'll use it. Luckily, a setup like Jennifer's, where the bottles are upright on display, has an added benefit of helping to preserve spirits for the long term. Alicia tells Homes & Gardens: 'The good news is that design and preservation are mostly on the same side here. Store bottles upright - unlike wine, spirits don't benefit from cork contact with liquid (and it can actually degrade the cork over time). Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources; a beautifully lit bar is fine, a bar shelf baking under a south-facing window is not. For bottles you open frequently, you don't need to worry too much, but for something precious, pour it into a smaller bottle once it's half-empty to reduce oxidation. And if a bottle is truly too beautiful to drink? That's a separate problem, and I can't help you there.'

She recommends: 'First, a quality gin. Second, a proper jigger - the dual-sided kind, with clear measurements. Eyeballing works until it doesn't, and precision is the difference between a great drink and an apology. Third, and people underestimate this - a good peeler. A fresh citrus twist done well will elevate almost anything you put in a glass.'

Building up a glassware collection for a home bar is another area where people get tripped up. They worry that they need to have all of the essentials all at once - but as Jennifer's design shows, often, simple is best.

Alicia suggests that readers: 'Start with three and build from there. First, a Martini glass. There is something about the architecture of a well-made Martini in a proper Martini glass that no other vessel quite replicates; it signals occasion without requiring one, which is rather the point: luxury shouldn't be rationed to special events. A Tuesday evening with a cold, perfectly proportioned Martini in the right glass is as valid a moment as any dinner party.'

'Second, a rocks glass for anything stirred and spirit-forward, think Negroni, Old Fashioned,' she continues. 'Finally, a highball for long drinks. Three excellent glasses will serve you better than twelve mediocre ones. And wash by hand, always.'

Warm summer temperatures call for evenings spent outside, and evenings spent outside call for ample outdoor lighting ideas – to set the mood, to create an inviting atmosphere outdoors, and to keep things illuminated after the sun goes down.

Though traditional outdoor light styles like pendants, string lights, and portable lamps are essential for brightening dark outdoor areas, I've found a portable light that blends so effortlessly into the landscape. It's called the Solar Pebble Light from Anthropologie, and as the name suggests, it looks just like a glowing pebble – an organic shape that would be perfectly disguised on a lawn, patio or poolside.

This pebble light is one of the most unique outdoor lights I've seen this summer with its organic, stone-inspired shape and soft light output. Unassuming during the day, its solar panels will soak up the sun, and at nightfall, its magical glow will subtly illuminate your patio, yard, or garden.

Being portable and solar powered, it can be positioned anywhere you want it to – so long as it has access to the sun to charge. To avoid substantial staining, you would have to seal your natural stone surfaces at least annually.'

Instead of delicate natural stone, opt for durable, non-porous, and stain-resistant surfaces that can easily withstand seasonal weather shifts – such as quartz, stainless steel, or high-performance porcelain. Serena’s solid, matte kitchen countertops perfectly demonstrate how to choose surfaces that gracefully endure the outdoor elements.

'The beauty of opting for... quartz and porcelain in your kitchen design is that you can achieve the aesthetic you love without compromising on durability,' Mor explains.

I’ve been loyal to my old dual-zone Ninja air fryer for years. It may use a traditional non-stick coating, but the versatility of two separate baskets has always been a non-negotiable for me

Now, however, Ninja has raised the bar with the dual-zone version of the beloved non-toxic Ninja Crispi, and, quite frankly, I'm obsessed.

With two independent glass cooking containers, Ninja's signature Sync and Match cooking functions, and a PFAS- and PTFE-free design, it combines the convenience I demand with the healthier materials we should all prefer. We reviewed the Ninja Crispi Pro last year, and it has reigned as our best glass air fryer ever since. Its borosilicate glass containers double as both cooking vessels and food storage, streamlining meal prep, cooking, and leftovers.

'Living rooms are becoming softer and more layered, with touches of nostalgic cottagecore and modern farmhouse influences set to become even more popular in 2026,' explains Maria O'Brien, Vice President of Design at Ruggable.

She continues: 'Rather than starting from scratch, people are warming up existing spaces. Swap stark whites for a warm, "Cotswold" palette of sandstone, clay and rust, creating depth by layering textures and colours - think a vintage-style rug, paired with natural linen and a chunky handknit throw.'

To emulate Keke's look, focus on layering textiles, integrating warm orange tones, and being sure to integrate lots of natural materials.

While Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is instantly recognizable in his bright red jersey, his family home features a much more understated design.

Most of his house embraces a neutral color palette – but no space feels quite as tranquil as his living room, which has thoroughly impressed interior design experts.

'These warmer tones help to create a cozy, welcoming environment and act as the perfect backdrop to make your carefully selected items stand out and not look cluttered.'

Beyond the color palette, Tash explains that a minimalist approach to furniture is what truly allows the living space to feel 'hushed.' Even though we only see a portion of the larger room, the uncluttered layout beautifully directs focus toward the statement fireplace and clean, undressed windowsills.

'Hushing your home means adopting a more minimal approach to living. Although "minimal" may trigger associations of restrictive living or dull decor, hushing your home in practice offers the complete opposite – it gives furnishings room to breathe and shine,' Tash reassures.

'Hushing is working out what you love most about the items in your home and working out which ones you want to keep and which ones to rehome. In hushed spaces, every item is chosen based on its level of usefulness, beauty, and the amount of joy you get from it, giving your space a curated feel. Anecdotally, at least, it’s true that a cluttered home creates a cluttered mind. A hushed home, by contrast, helps to hush a busy mind and help you switch off.'

There’s always a next ‘it’ sneaker, the skincare miracle that actually works, another up-and-coming restaurant we reliably cannot score a reservation for. (We’re on iPhone number what now?) Julie Gokce, the senior kitchen designer at MoreKitchens, explains how the right materials and lighting layout can completely transform an all-white canvas, saying: 'When selecting this focal point, few materials achieve the desired impact quite like gold and brass. In white kitchens, these warm metallics work almost like sunlight; they bring depth and a welcoming glow that stops the place from feeling cold or clinical.'

She continues: 'The current preference is for finishes with a softer touch like brushed brass or a satin gold. Unlike high-polish metals that can feel flashy, these subtler options catch the light gently and add a level of texture that feels both modern and lived-in. They have a wonderful way of bridging the gap between crisp white cabinetry and other natural materials you might introduce, like wooden shelving or stone countertops. You’ll find that the result is a kitchen that feels considered and layered in warmth.'

If you were sporting a pair of Hollister Super Skinnies in the early 2000s, you were cool. And if you worked inside one of those ‘SoCal’-scented, shutter-windowed storefronts? You weren’t just folding T-shirts – you were a model, a celebrity, an influencer before influencers existed. A patio is not just an extension of your home - it's the place where your home meets the outdoors. Thus, by leaning into the surroundings, you can transform this area from a simple furnished surface into a magical escape that blends the boundaries between nature and manmade architecture. Andy Cohen shows us how to do exactly that in his Hamptons backyard.

The Bravo host purchased a plot of land in Amagansett in 2019 and spent the next seven years custom-designing a property to his exact specifications. Working with architect Gordon Kahn and interior designer Jackie Greenberg, he got to work on his unpretentious New York City escape. Andy told Architectural Digest: 'I wanted a house that was as simple and connected to nature as possible, nothing precious or fancy, someplace you could track sand into.'

The hot tub on his patio perfectly embodies this philosophy. Though the natural wood exterior oozes quiet luxury, it's filled with his children's toys. Accented with colorful boogie boards and towels, every detail is eye-catching yet functional, primed to facilitate all-day fun at the beach. Zooming out (see on slide 2), we can see how Andy's hot tub is just a smaller zone within his patio that reads like a living room on the coastline.

So, how does Andy Cohen use his luxurious wooden hot tub as an extension of the beach? Homes & Gardens spoke with design experts to get to the bottom of why his outdoor design works and how we can recreate it in our own homes. Recreate Andy's Look at Home

From chic pool floats to gorgeous wooden accessories, the beauty of Andy's patio comes through in the contrast between natural and eye-catching outdoor decor. These are our editors' favorite pieces for emulating his look this summer.

Magdalena Gierasinska, Design Expert at Barker and Stonehouse explains: 'Outdoor spaces have become an extension of our indoors and increasingly, they’re expected to serve multiple functions. When entertaining, people use their outdoor spaces for lounging, dining, and even cooking.'

Luckily, Andy's method is easy to recreate, whether or not you live by the beach. Magdalena tells Homes & Gardens: 'My advice is to zone the garden to create distinct areas within the space. Choose a large outdoor sofa or bench to create a lounging area, complete with a small side table for drinks, nibbles and casual dining, like barbecues. This will feel relaxed, informal and welcoming.'

She continues: 'A large table with plenty of seating clearly defines the dining area and is perfect for larger gatherings or more formal or celebratory occasions. If your garden is on the smaller side, consider a bistro set to create a zone for intimate dining. A cooking zone can be easily created with a BBQ and an outdoor table for prepping food, or if you have a large outdoor space, an outdoor kitchen is the ultimate alfresco entertaining must-have.'

Like Andy's hot tub, subtle accents are the perfect way to signal shifts between these zones. 'Accessories also help to create distinct zones within the garden,' recommends Magdalena. 'Rugs ground the space and help to define separate areas so consider placing one beneath your sofa or dining table.'

By using natural materials and creating zones, you can build an outdoor space that harnesses the beauty of the outdoors and is highly functional for you and your family.

When we think of a nursery, play often comes first – think animal motifs, vibrant colors, and captivating patterns everywhere. Though these spaces are crucially designed for a new baby, it's equally important to prioritize the needs of the new parents, who will be spending most of their time in this room for the next several months. Nicole Brydon Bloom and Justin Theroux leaned into this duality when they began to design their baby boy's nursery with the Crate & Kids Design Desk. 'We wanted a space that was calm and grounded, but still fun and playful,' explains the actress. The serene coastal color palette, cocooning furnishings, and subtly relaxing patterns of the space go above and beyond in creating a room that is stimulating for the baby but calming for the parents.

The repetition of stripes throughout this space is a clever gender neutral nursery idea that will grow with your child. An abundance of stripes makes the room feel subtly textured and fun, without overloading on busy prints.

A minority of kitchen habits remain just as ingenious two decades after they first aired. However, not every tip comes from Martha Stewart.

A resurfaced archival video from Martha's Turkey Hill home in Westport, Connecticut, shows the original influencer making light work of her kitchen cleaning. Her secret? A rubber scraper, metal scraper, and warm towel power trio.

'As with all household chores, there are utensils that are available that make the job easier and are right for the job. If you have a messy counter after you've rolled out pastry or made bread dough, it's easy to clean up if you have one of these scrapers,' Martha says.

'This kind of metal scraper [like this one from Amazon] is excellent for cleaning butcher block countertops or bread boards. It just scrapes it clean.'

Martha then tackles marble or metal kitchen countertops, much like the stainless steel surfaces in her own home.

'If you have a metal or marble countertop, use one of these little rubber scrapers [similar to this one on Amazon]. Just push everything into a pile. This does not scratch. It doesn't mark. Just pull it all off into your hand, and throw it away,' she says.

Alongside using a scraper to easily clean up cooking debris, Martha recommends wiping down our counters with a classic towel, just like this chip option from Target. What we shouldn't use, she says, is a paper towel.

'Remember, we think about the environment and about ecology. I always use a damp towel like this – a damp dish towel to wipe up my counter. I keep it rinsed and warm at my side while I'm working in the kitchen,' Martha explains.

'These kitchen appliances last a lot longer and look a lot better if they are cleaned up after every use. So this dish towel and those scrapers make clean up very simple.'
