I'll talk about how much I adore minimalist interiors at any given opportunity. Soft creams, cool whites, and pared-back furnishings are always at the top of my decorating agenda, but I will always be the first to admit that they can risk feeling somewhat flat (and, at worst, unwelcoming). It's easy to feel a little bit envious of Brie Larson. The actress's Mediterranean-inspired Los Feliz estate epitomizes everything that makes SoCal so chic while paying homage to timeless European decorating techniques: limewashed walls included. 'All-white living rooms is a classic that will never go out of style. There are so many shades of white that you can evoke just about any feeling as a foundation for the space,' says  Tama Bell, the founder and interior designer at Tama Bell Design.

The hue is crisp and clean – creating a blank canvas that allows other shades to stand out. And, in Brie's case, it is the perfect base for a neutral space that is as therapeutic as it is good-looking.

This tone transcends color trends – continually impressing designers and Hollywood's elite, Captain Marvel included.  

'It's bright and a classic. It allows you room to direct the aesthetic through the furnishings and accessories,' Tama says. While the designer says that it can be used to allow more monochromatic pieces to pop – it is just as powerful to color drench with white (and off-white) pieces as Brie has done.

Despite exhibiting exclusively similar tones, the actress's space is far from vanilla. She had added interest through trending textiles (including celebrated bouclé) and a large neutral rug. This undemanding color also allows the home's architectural assets to shine through – most strikingly, in the case of her stone fireplace, which is a nod to its history. 

When the actress purchased her home, we reported that the $7 million property has origins dating back to 1948 – and, alongside the fireplace, comes with a vintage yellow kitchen and views of Los Angeles' skyline. 

When decorating with white, however, Tama reminds us that every home is different. So, just as Brie has chosen tones that accentuate her home's natural beauty – we should do the same. 

'For the right tone of white, pay attention to the undertones when selecting and what feeling you are trying to create in the space,' she says. 'We love warm, off-whites used en-masse on walls, ceilings, and trim to encapsulate and create a cozy, modern feeling.'

The actress, who lives in an Italian-style property in California, debuted a historical alternative to contemporary backsplashes – featuring an engraving of  (what appears to be) The Birth of Venus on a cast-iron fireback.

Cast-iron firebacks have been included in homes since the 15th century – when they were used to reflect light and heat from the fire into a room. To this day, they are still considered an effective way of protecting a hearth's back wall from decay – while acting as a way to radiate heat after the fire burns out. Or it also makes for a kitchen backsplash with a twist.

Over the centuries, designers often decorated cast-iron firebacks with mythological or religious motifs, as is the case in the one seen in Brie's kitchen. Their ornate nature means they are often purchased for their aesthetic qualities (instead of for practical reasons); however, they can perform the same role as a tile backsplash – while making a distinct style statement in the process.

Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has purchased a Mediterranean villa-style home amid the gated Laughlin Park community in Los Feliz, Hollywood. 

With origins dating back to 1948, the $7 million property is among the most historical in the neighborhood – and one of the world's best homes – complete with a vintage yellow kitchen and views of Los Angeles' skyline. 

The Academy Award-winning actress (and star of the forthcoming film The Marvels) reportedly purchased the two-story home from a group of local real estate investors – who purchased the home from a 'non-famous family' in 2022 for $3.8 million. 

With the price jump considered, it is likely that the property received an extensive renovation in the past year; however, as the property sold off the market, recent photos are sparse. 

According to dated images and tax records acquired by Dirt (who initially reported on the sale), the home still spans just under 4,000 square feet and features four bedrooms and four bathrooms. 

Though little is known about the new decorating ideas, the interiors are said to boast a curved staircase and spacious living room with a brick fireplace – the latter standing as a reminder of its (approximate 75-year-old) history. 

Former listing images also show a vintage, sunny kitchen that flows into the family room – complete with glass sliding doors that open to the exteriors. There is also a 'wood-paneled den' and an upstairs primary bedroom suite with unrivaled views across Hollywood and the LA skyline. 

Outside, the 9,000 square feet space is equally as noteworthy – boasting a backyard swimming pool and grassy lawns that are perfect for sunbathing or entertaining. 

The Sacramento-born actress is the latest newcomer to the private community that is famous among her Hollywood counterparts. Her neighbors include the likes of Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Will.i.am, and Ashley Benson. Los Feliz is also home to the Vista Theatre, a 1923 movie palace, and a pair of iconic Frank Lloyd Wright homes.
