<p>No team has made headlines quite like the Kansas City Chiefs this year, but how does one of their quarterbacks round off the year? With a classic white and metallic Christmas color scheme that will impress every December. How can we be sure? Patrick first shared his decorations back in 2021, and three years later, they look just as fashionable.</p><p>Patrick and Brittany Mahomes layered their <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/christmas-tree-ideas" target="_blank">Christmas tree</a> with silver, gold, and pearlescent ornaments – creating a textured, classic setting that gives a luxurious twist to the classic <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/scandinavian-christmas-decor-ideas">Scandinavian Christmas</a> aesthetic. </p><p>While decorating for the holidays can bring challenges in uber-minimalist homes, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes's tree is an example of how it's possible to have fun without sacrificing style. Eric Bramlett, a real estate agent and owner of<a href="http://bramlettresidential.com/"> <u>Bramlett Real Estate</u></a>, agrees. </p><p>'Minimalist Christmas decor has a completely different vibe but is just as timeless for those who prefer clean, modern spaces. Last year, I helped stage a property where the owners didn’t want clutter. We stuck to white and metallic tones, with a single tree adorned with simple, coordinated ornaments. It was striking in its simplicity and showed that even minimal effort can make a space feel festive,' he says. 'It’s perfect for anyone who loves modern design but still wants to nod to the season.'</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CX6a2Ukrhx6/" target="_blank">A post shared by Patrick Mahomes II (@patrickmahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><h2 id="shop-the-look">Shop the look</h2> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="12c2fa26-6aef-459b-b6b8-5fb03b76c5bc"> <a href="https://www.mcgeeandco.com/collections/holiday-ornaments/products/mercury-bauble-ornaments-set-of-4" data-model-name="Mercury Bauble Ornaments (set of 4)" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Z7QJJydGZwAVwEBfqZPPbZ.jpg" alt="Mercury Bauble Ornaments (set of 4)"><span class='featured__label hero__label'>Timeless designs</span></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Mercury Bauble Ornaments (set of 4)</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>Classic, sophisticated and enduringly popular, metallic ornaments are everlasting so I always suggest to invest in the best ones you can afford. Natural wood tones, soft lighting, and simple ornaments define this style,' Bramlett explains.</p><p>'A client once asked me to help them create a hygge-inspired holiday look. We kept it understated – candlelit windows, woven blankets on the sofas, and a small tree with just a handful of carefully chosen decorations. It wasn’t loud or bold, but it was cozy in a way that made the home feel like a retreat.'</p><p>As mentioned, the ornaments seen on the Mahomes family tree have the rare ability to transcend <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/interior-design-trends">design trends</a> (considering it still looks as good this year as it did in 2021). But what makes this look so eternal? 'It's their ability to connect with personal values,' Bramlett says.</p><p>'Whether it’s honoring tradition, embracing simplicity, or creating fun for your family, they all tap into something real. The best Christmas decor isn’t about impressing anyone; it’s about creating a space where you feel at home. That’s what I focus on with every project – helping people find what speaks to them and bringing it to life in a way that feels genuine.'</p><p>While we can't know for sure how the Kansas City Chiefs year will go, one thing is almost guaranteed: silver will look good time and time again.</p>

<p>The right patio furniture color can set the tone for a relaxing outdoor experience that will draw you in repeatedly. Brittany and Patrick Mahomes's black lounge chairs against the white stone of their porch strike this perfect, alluring chord.</p><p>Mr. and Mrs. Mahomes revealed their <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-are-the-best-colors-for-outdoor-furniture">outdoor furniture color</a> in a recent Instagram post, walking across their patio with their little girl. The design features three luxurious, modern loungers on top of white slab tiles. The chairs match the black iron fence in the background. They pair perfectly with the tall green deciduous trees in the background and the neatly trimmed lawn edging the slabs.</p><p>The look is more than an <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/outdoor-decorating-trends">outdoor decorating trend</a>; it's an ageless classic. 'Black patio furniture is like a leather jacket—it’s timeless, bold, and says, “I’m not here to play by your rules,"' says Ruben Guiterrez, founder of Miami-based <a href="https://www.errezdesign.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Errez Design</a>. The design benefit? Simplicity meets sophistication. Black gives you that sharp, no-nonsense edge while also letting the other elements of your patio speak for themselves. It absorbs the sun and the surroundings, becoming part of the environment, not just sitting in it.'</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_Vxu8HvHx1/" target="_blank">A post shared by Patrick Mahomes II (@patrickmahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>The functional benefits of the Mahomes's black <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/patio-furniture-ideas">patio furniture</a> cannot be overstated. First, it's durable. Gutierrez says: 'black is forgiving. It won’t betray you by showing every smudge of dirt or a bit of wear.' Black furniture also makes it easy to change your design. Audra Samnotra, founder at Tampa-based <a href="https://www.socialswandecor.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Social Swan Decor</a>, tells <em>H&G</em>, 'Black is the easiest color to match. If you want to swap out pieces down the road or find a day bed you have to have, you can do it pretty easily with a black color scheme.'</p><p>Furthermore, the white stones the Mahomes have chosen to pair with their furniture is the perfect complement to <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/decorating-with-black">decorating with black</a>. Gutierrez states: 'Black and white—there’s a reason this combo has been around longer than most civilizations. Think of it as a conversation between opposites.'</p><figure class="van-image-figure " data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="ygMT2PfkBa3V27JBmXPvuG" name="Shade-garden-ideas-modern-patio-cover.jpg" alt="Modern metal patio furniture ideas demonstrated by a long table and chairs underneath a bold architectural feature." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ygMT2PfkBa3V27JBmXPvuG.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=""><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Future)</span></figcaption></figure><p>He continues, 'The black lounge chairs against a white stone? It’s a balancing act between light and shadow, like walking a tightrope between classic and contemporary. This is the kind of contrast that doesn’t need to scream for attention—it simply owns the space with quiet confidence. It’s timeless because it doesn’t rely on trends. It’s an eternal dance between the day and the night, never going out of style.</p><h2 id="shop-the-look-2">Shop the Look</h2> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="760447f7-331e-45fe-9a11-ab806f622499"> <a href="https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/ebern-designs-steel-patio-side-table-weather-resistant-outdoor-round-end-table-w006590348.html?piid=1495383944%2C1587679171" data-model-name="Patio Side Table" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/StXTNpMryNxJy794XxXxqY.jpg" alt="black patio table"><span class='featured__label hero__label'>Modern</span></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Patio Side Table</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>This modern side table adds a touch of contemporary flair to any space</p></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="ae4af851-d7b0-46c6-b1a0-eee5c08d6cc9"> <a href="https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/hokku-designs-tellie-outdoor-chaise-lounge-w100329365.html?piid=323057101&auctionId=6f22e706-6b8b-4e0b-b32a-a548d849e442" data-model-name="Outdoor Chaise Lounge" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KTZqrrcd4h3VGCQz4dfM3Q.jpg" alt="black patio chairs on a white bacgrkound"><span class='featured__label hero__label'>Woven</span></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Outdoor Chaise Lounge</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>This high-quality, polypropylene black woven chairs are perfect for lounging on your patio</p></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="b35130f6-508e-4fd5-a920-9b2ac976ded0"> <a href="https://www.frontera.com/nami-lounge-chair/" data-model-name="Nami Outdoor Lounge Chair" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/werrQ6zCnGaqjfqmSh5NPQ.jpg" alt="black modern outdoor chair on a white background"><span class='featured__label hero__label'>Curved</span></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Nami Outdoor Lounge Chair</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>Recreate the look of the Mahomes's patio with a curved, modern, black chair perfect for all weather conditions</p></p> </div> </div> </div><p>If you are hoping to recreate the look, carefully consider what will be the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/buying-guides/best-outdoor-furniture">best outdoor furniture</a>, functionally, for your home. Gutierrez recommends: ' If you’re in the market for black patio furniture, don’t just go for what looks good in a showroom. Look for pieces that can handle the elements and still come out swinging. You want materials that stand up to the wind, the sun, and time itself—powder-coated metal, tough-as-nails aluminum, or even resin wicker, which has that charm of looking effortless while being nearly indestructible.'</p><p>It's also important to ensure that the space feels like an <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/outdoor-living-room-ideas" target="_blank">outdoor living room</a> rather than a casual assembly of a few chairs. 'Don’t skimp on comfort, either. Cushions need to be made from the good stuff—something that won’t crumble after a few seasons in the sun,' suggests Gutierrez. He continues, 'And remember, black can dominate a space, so don’t let it overwhelm the patio—choose pieces that complement your space like a well-placed exclamation point.'</p><p>Though Brittany and Patrick Mahomes's patio is simple, the design lessons that it embodies will have impact for years to come.</p>

<p>Following <em>that</em> Superbowl win, the world is inevitably looking at Patrick Mahomes. However, while the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is usually pictured on the field (or at the most talked-about afterparty of the year thus far), we&apos;re slightly more interested in his abode – or rather, the decorating quirks that make his house a home. </p><p>We&apos;ve already noted how Patrick and Brittany Mahomes seem to have a thing for a neutral color palette (as seen in their kitchen and &apos;hushed&apos; cream living space), but it seems their affection for these hues has also found its way to their <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/living-room-sofa-ideas">living room sofa</a>.</p><p>The couple opted for a sleek black leather piece – a choice that juxtaposes against the white-painted walls and reminds us just how powerful monochromic contrasts can look in a space. Inevitably, it&apos;s a look that hasn&apos;t gone unnoticed by some of the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/buying-guides/best-couch">best couch</a> experts in the industry, who praise their enterally fashionable choice. </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B0lzOEApbX3/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>&apos;Known for elegance and versatility, leather sofas have remained a popular choice for our living rooms for decades,&apos; Sofology&apos;s expert Gisela Lancaster explains. </p><p>Available in a range of colors and styles, soft leather sofas are a timeless option that suits both traditional and contemporary schemes alike. Prized for a sleek appearance, black leather can be particularly appealing for those looking to make a statement with their furniture, adding depth and drama to any space.&apos;</p><p>Brittny and Patrick have interrupted their <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-is-a-monochrome-color-scheme">monochromic</a> black-and-white scheme with textured red cushions – perhaps a nod to the Kansas City Chiefs jersey that we&apos;re seeing everywhere at the moment. However, whether the red has a deeper meaning or not, Gisela urges us to follow suit. &apos;Relaxed leather sofas feel particularly inviting when complemented with textured cushions and throws, perfect for lounging,&apos; she adds. </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B0gghxMp1Z6/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>Leather sofas aside, Patrick and Brittny have continued the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/neutral-living-room-ideas">neutral living room</a> scheme with a large gray coffee table and a rug (for yet more texture). <p>Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may be synonymous with his red jersey, but his family abode is notably more pared-back. From what we have seen, almost the entirety of his home boasts a neutral color palette – but no space is quite as soothing as his living space, which has impressed color experts the most. </p><p>The room in question exemplifies <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/decorating-with-neutrals">decorating with neutrals</a>, starting with cream paint that compliments the beige curtains and white fireplace. The palette and furnishings are minimal (but nonetheless warm), and it&apos;s a look that experts call &apos;hushing our home.&apos;</p><p>According to Lick&apos;s color psychologist, Tash Bradley, &apos;hushing our home&apos; translates to creating personal sanctuaries we can retreat to when we want to feel safe, calm and comforted. Considering Patrick&apos;s schedule, we&apos;re not surprised his <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/living-room-ideas-222997">living room color</a> choices were likely picked with peace in mind. However, this technique is replicable far beyond Missouri.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B_P5ww4p84s/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>&apos;In order to hush your home, avoid colors that can make a room feel visually cluttered and overstimulating, such as bright reds, oranges, or primary yellows. Instead, opt for colors that don’t ask too much from you,&apos; Tash says. </p><p>For the perfect starting point, we should draw inspiration from Patrick and Brittany Mahome&apos;s color choices and opt for beiges, whites, and creams that complement one another without feeling overpowering.  </p><p>Alongside these neutrals, Tash recommends yellow and red-based neutrals, earthy greens, gentle blues, and soothing pinks that are similarly &apos;easy on the eye&apos; and &apos;bring a sense of calm and harmony into our home.&apos;</p><p>&apos;These warmer tones help to create a cozy, welcoming environment and act as the perfect backdrop to make your carefully selected items stand out and not look cluttered.&apos; </p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="FNZaijy8wXFJ42k5j4pSLE" name="Untitled design (89).jpg" alt="Wooden coffee table in neutral living room" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/FNZaijy8wXFJ42k5j4pSLE.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: CB2)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Colors aside, Tash explains that Patrick&apos;s minimalist approach to furnishings equally allows his living room to feel &apos;hushed.&apos; While we can only see a section of the wider space, this area is undeniably <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/minimalist-living-room-ideas">minimalist</a> and brings our focus to the aforementioned fireplace and undressed windowsills. </p><p>&apos;Hushing your home means adopting a more minimal approach to living. Although ‘minimal’ may trigger associations of restrictive living or dull decor, hushing your home in practice offers the complete opposite – it gives furnishings room to breathe and shine,&apos; Tash reassures.</p><p>&apos;Hushing is working out what you love most about the items in your home and working out which ones you want to keep and which ones to rehome. In hushed spaces, every item is chosen based on its level of usefulness, beauty, and the amount of joy you get from it, giving your space a curated feel. Anecdotally, at least, it’s true that a cluttered home creates a cluttered mind. A hushed home, by contrast, helps to hush a busy mind and help you switch off.&apos;</p><p>With the Superbowl only a mere number of days away, we trust Patrick&apos;s living room offers the soothing qualities he may crave before leaving for Vegas. <p>It's no secret that renovating a kitchen is among the most expensive and time-consuming jobs we can undertake in our homes, so it's only natural to want our decor choices to stand the test of time. This is where Patrick Mahomes's 'futureproof' color choices come into play. </p><p><a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/celebrity-style/patrick-and-brittany-mahomes-neutral-kitchen">Patrick and Brittany Mahomes' neutral kitchen</a>, exhibiting off-white cabinets, a textured island, and a backsplash, may be one of the safest <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/kitchen-colour-ideas-203697">kitchen color choices</a> we can make –  but it's also the most timeless. </p><p><a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/decorating-with-neutrals">Decorating with neutrals</a> is a technique that will forever transcend 'trends,' but that hasn't stopped experts from labeling white and beige as hues that will shape how we decorate in 2024. And Patrick Mahomes's kitchen is the perfect starting point.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BxGKbciHkC1/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>'Selecting a color for your kitchen cabinetry can be daunting, especially since it will likely be part of the home for several years. When aiming to create a kitchen that feels timeless, it is important to find a balance between a hue that feels modern yet retains an aspect of class and simplicity,' says Sinead Trainor, the kitchen category manager at <a href="https://www.lochannakitchens.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><u>LochAnna Kitchens</u></a><u>,</u> in her decision of how we can 'future proof' our kitchens.</p><p>'Neutrals such as off-whites, pebble greys, and soft beiges are excellent for achieving this effect.'</p><p>When it comes to selecting the right neutral, we all inevitably have our own preferences. However, as Sinead explains, a good rule of thumb when <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/decorating-with-neutrals">decorating with neutrals</a> is to avoid overusing stark, bright whites 'as they can bring a cold, clinical feeling to the space.' </p><p>Alternatively, we should try and steer clear of using overly warm neutrals, as these can make the space feel 'confined and dated.'</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="2EQjf6gPhtfyaEfKBnhkp4" name="Beige kitchen.jpg" alt="Beige painted kitchen with natural walls" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/2EQjf6gPhtfyaEfKBnhkp4.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: British Standard by Plain English)</span></figcaption></figure><p>As mentioned, these tones have a timeless quality, but their ability to impress through the centuries doesn't make them any less fashionable for the year ahead. Patrick's home </p><p>However, as William Durrant, the owner of Herringbone, explains, their texture makes these cabinets even trendier. Patrick Mahomes' kitchen uses veined marble and matte cabinetry to add interest to the neutral space, but various textures will top <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/news/kitchen-trends-202526">kitchen trends</a> in the year ahead.</p><p>'Reeded cabinetry, textured glass, and all kinds of vertical textures is a beautiful design element for 2024,' he says.</p><p>'Not only does it make your cabinets, dressers, or bars stand out, but it also adds texture to the kitchen and cabinets while hiding the potential mess inside the cupboards.'</p><p>Patrick's kitchen uses a timeless color scheme that will cope with the ever-changing interior design trends. A neutral base is ideal for adding in accent colors or textures or making small switches like tiling or hardware. If you want to ensure your kitchen design will last for decades, take note</p> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="5335407b-44f5-48d0-8bcc-fcd82704ebe3"> <a href="https://www.backdrophome.com/products/supermoon-interior-standard/" data-model-name="Supermoon white paint sample" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/yHoH6EzqbqR7cyMTsMikWS.jpg" alt="White paint"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Supermoon white paint sample</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>This easily-applicable, washable paint is 'green-certified,' making it a great choice if you want to get the Patrick Mahomes look, the sustainable way.</p></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="59189fd7-ddf8-4a2d-aca7-5a07c2f6d9d8"> <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/1144758028/knife-block-holder-universal-rack-empty?" data-model-name="Black Knife Block" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PzjEKTuQdpZhSzH3ahzaoc.png" alt="Etsy"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Black Knife Block</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>This black block holder is perfect for storing knives in style. <p>Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is among the most celebrated footballers of a generation – with two Super Bowls (in only a five-season career) to his name. Naturally, his reputation comes with a need for privacy, most especially in his Kansas City suburb home. This is where his clever choice of planting comes into play. </p><p>In their yard, Patrick and his wife Brittany use the ancient agricultural practice of espalier to create a tall, vertical wall made entirely of trees. The most successful <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/gardens/trees-to-espalier">trees to espalier</a> are often fruit trees – planted with the aim to grow straight against a wall (or, in Patrick&apos;s case, a fence). These trees are among the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/gardens/best-plants-for-privacy">best plants for privacy</a> – but, as mentioned, it is no new phenomenon.</p><p>While the Mahomes&apos; use espalier for privacy, their history dates back through the centuries to French monk Fr. Lergendre, who experimented with espalier as a way to grow food in a <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/small-garden-ideas-211951">small garden</a>. His method worked, and to this day, the art of training fruit trees to grow against a wall (in artfully pruned shapes) lives on to the contemporary day. </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CHTSYN4J7Ym/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>Patrick and Brittany have used what appears to be hornbeam trees to create a tall border that adds privacy beyond their fence – but this technique is just as possible with other plants. </p><p>Firstly, <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/advice/best-fruit-trees">fruit trees</a> are an effective alternative when planting for privacy, but practicalities aside, we can also use vertical planting for aesthetic benefits.  </p><p>&apos;<a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/vertical-garden-ideas">Vertical planting</a> utilizes the vertical space to introduce a vibrant and dynamic element to your surroundings. Based on the results I&apos;ve seen over my years in the landscaping industry, vertical planting can truly transform the appearance of an area, creating an inviting and visually appealing atmosphere,&apos; he says. </p><p>&apos;Most people don&apos;t know this, but vertical planting allows you to incorporate plants that climb, vine, or have a trailing growth habit, creating a captivating living wall that captures attention and brings life to any space.&apos;</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="Lq5M4VR4dJ757onexyhBDA" name="espalier-jacky-hobbs.jpg" alt="espalier trees behind outdoor dining scene in garden designed by Alan Williams" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/Lq5M4VR4dJ757onexyhBDA.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Jacky Hobbs)</span></figcaption></figure><p>When selecting plants for vertical planting (hornbeam and fruit trees aside), Bryan says it is essential we consider their light requirements, maintenance needs, and suitability for vertical growth.</p><p>&apos;By carefully choosing plants like climbing roses, ivy, jasmine, or trailing vines (such as sweet potato vine or English ivy), you can achieve excellent coverage and enhance the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor area,&apos; he says. </p><p>Lastly, while we can use this technique for added privacy and interest, we can also use it to hide an unsightly wall – which is not the case in Patrick&apos;s yard – but still good to note. </p><p>&apos;If you have an unsightly wall, don&apos;t overlook the potential of vertical planting. Embrace this strategy and transform it into a stunning vertical garden.&apos;</p><p>To elevate our yard further, we&apos;re picking up some of our favorite <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/buying-guides/best-outdoor-furniture">outdoor furniture</a> pieces, set to impress, even over the cool winter nights. </p> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="8d6f98a9-fd47-4e6c-9904-65f40d564ad1"> <a href="https://www.castlery.com/us/products/sorrento-dining-table-with-6-chairs" data-model-name="Sorrento Dining Table Set" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/hewzsk8TpTuMo2H8nbfGG5.jpg" alt="A Sorrento Dining Table Set on a white backgorund"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class="featured__title">Sorrento Dining Table Set</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>The clean lines on this table and chair set are perfect for modern patios, decks, and pools. <p>Football quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, are selling their 1950s Kansas City Home, four years after purchase, for just under $3 million.</p><p>The Kansas City Chiefs star and winner of two Super Bowls (so far) purchased the ranch in 2019, around the same time he won his first Super Bowl championship. The Texas native then went on to sign a $503 million NFL contract with the aforementioned Missouri-based team while creating a family with his personal trainer wife, Brittany. </p><p>The couple is now reportedly selling their &apos;surprisingly understated&apos; <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/news/patrick-mahomes-missouri-home">Kansas City home</a>, which they purchased for around $1.9 million, according to <a href="https://www.dirt.com/gallery/athletes/football-players/patrick-mahomes-house-kansas-city-missouri-1203644041/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><em>Dirt</em></a>. Built in the 1950s, the modest ranch-style structure boasts midcentury bones – but recently underwent a $400,000 renovation under the couple&apos;s ownership. </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CNGoeYsH2qC/" target="_blank">A post shared by Patrick Mahomes II (@patrickmahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>Hidden on over an acre of land (and protected by tall gates and a security system), the ranch offers the privacy Patrick and Brittany likely crave for their young family. Outdoor amenities also include an outdoor living space with a fire pit, a  putting green, a heated <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/pool-ideas">pool</a>, and a garage for up to five vehicles.</p><p>Inside, the home comprises three bedrooms and four bathrooms across 4,800 square feet of <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/open-plan-living-room-ideas">open-plan living</a> space. Many of the rooms boast blonde hardwood floors and expansive glass walls that flood the home with natural light. </p><p>The open-concept floor features formal living and dining spaces, a modern sunroom, and a family room with a wet bar, leading to a neutral-hued <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/kitchen-ideas">kitchen</a> with an eat-in island and a range hood built into the ceiling. </p><p>The primary bedroom suite includes a private sitting area and dual closets, along with access to an en-suite with a shower and large soaking tub.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B48KFe9Jkuw/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>It is not yet confirmed where Patrick and Brittany are planning to move; however, we&apos;d hazard a guess that they will stay in Kansas City, thanks to his position in the team. </p><p><em>Dirt </em>also reports that Patrick owns a Dallas-area mansion he purchased for $3.37 million in 2020 and a two-bedroom Missouri apartment since 2017. </p><p>Reports also suggest Patrick and Brittany purchased a $400,000 plot of land within Kansas City&apos;s gated Loch Lloyd country club community, where he is expected to build a mansion with a &apos;half football field.&apos;</p><p>We&apos;re reading up Patrick&apos;s life (even before his Kansas City Chiefs success) in the biography below. </p><div class="product"><a data-dimension112="382a5741-33ac-441a-9954-d586c3122a2a" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Patrick Mahomes: The Inspirational Biography | $9.99 on Amazon" data-dimension48="Patrick Mahomes: The Inspirational Biography | $9.99 on Amazon" href="https://www.amazon.com/Patrick-Mahomes-Inspirational-Transformational-Quarterbacks/dp/B0BGSFG19Y/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:100.00%;"><img id="m45YdkXt2betsTDfQwK6bn" name="Untitled design - 2023-02-16T150154.835.jpg" caption="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/m45YdkXt2betsTDfQwK6bn.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2000" attribution="" endorsement="" credit="" class=""></p></div></div></figure></a><p><strong>Patrick Mahomes: The Inspirational Biography | </strong><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Patrick-Mahomes-Inspirational-Transformational-Quarterbacks/dp/B0BGSFG19Y/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" data-dimension112="382a5741-33ac-441a-9954-d586c3122a2a" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Patrick Mahomes: The Inspirational Biography | $9.99 on Amazon" data-dimension48="Patrick Mahomes: The Inspirational Biography | $9.99 on Amazon"><strong>$9.99 on Amazon</strong></a><strong> </strong></p><p>This biography explores the life behind one of the most successful sports players of a generation. <p>This year has seen the color gray&apos;s popularity fall into question. Some designers argue that gray as we know it is no longer in vogue – urging us to look for earthier or more vibrant alternatives. In fact, our feature on <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-color-is-replacing-gray">which color is replacing gray</a> was one of our most-read ever, so many of you obviously agree, too.</p><p>However, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes have just made a case for gray in their backyard of all places – and it works. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback shared a glimpse of his <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/buying-guides/best-outdoor-furniture">outdoor furniture</a>, specifically, which is a distinct gray-blue color, much deeper and warmer than the traditionally-popular, cooler gray that designers have begun to shun. </p><p>Our opinion? Gray-blue Mahomes-style is the way to go. And it&apos;s a shade that makes for a fantastic backdrop for planting, making the green of plants look incredibly vibrant, if you take it outdoors like they have.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Cii_17orpj_/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>Patrick and Brittany have used this gray-blue tone on both their backyard armchairs and rug – creating an <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/outdoor-living-room-ideas">outdoor living room</a> area on their paved terrace. It&apos;s a tone that looks especially fitting against the couple&apos;s light paving – a look that has not gone unnoticed by furniture expert Raf Michalowski.</p><p>&apos;Gray-blue is trending right now – and for a good reason. It&apos;s versatile, calming, and contemporary – perfect for creating a peaceful outdoor space. The color is becoming popular because it pairs well with cool tones, such as white and warmer hues, like blush pinks or oranges,&apos; Raf says. &apos; Its neutral palette isn&apos;t overwhelming and won’t draw too much attention away from other design elements.&apos;</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="kRoAi7Yg2qKQLd4xS63R9o" name="Untitled design (22).png" alt="Patrick Mahomes" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/kRoAi7Yg2qKQLd4xS63R9o.png" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: GettyImages)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Patrick and Brittany chose this <a href="https://rh.com/us/en/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod14020043&sale=false&layout=vertical" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Balmain Aluminium Lounge Chair</a> from RH, and you can recreate a similar look with this rug below.</p><div class="product"><a data-dimension112="06724333-8028-4f39-9d2a-82bead6701bd" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Mcelfresh Bordered Outdoor Patio Rug – $96.99 on Wayfair" data-dimension48="Mcelfresh Bordered Outdoor Patio Rug – $96.99 on Wayfair" href="https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/winston-porter-mcelfresh-bordered-machine-woven-power-loomed-gray-indooroutdoor-patio-rug-wnpo2789.html?piid=32784890" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><figure class="van-image-figure " ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:100.00%;"><img id="5NAX5P3cKEwPsWykdcuaen" name="Untitled design (24).png" caption="" alt="" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5NAX5P3cKEwPsWykdcuaen.png" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2000" attribution="" endorsement="" credit="" class=""></p></div></div></figure></a><p><strong>Mcelfresh Bordered Outdoor Patio Rug – </strong><a href="https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/winston-porter-mcelfresh-bordered-machine-woven-power-loomed-gray-indooroutdoor-patio-rug-wnpo2789.html?piid=32784890" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" data-dimension112="06724333-8028-4f39-9d2a-82bead6701bd" data-action="Deal Block" data-label="Mcelfresh Bordered Outdoor Patio Rug – $96.99 on Wayfair" data-dimension48="Mcelfresh Bordered Outdoor Patio Rug – $96.99 on Wayfair"><strong>$96.99 on Wayfair</strong></a><strong><br></strong>This outdoor rug is made with durable fibers – designed to be resilient against everyday wear and tear and outdoor elements experienced on your patio. <p>Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is perhaps the most celebrated figure of the Superbowl, and for a good reason. </p><p>The 27-year-old, who aggravated his high ankle sprain in the second quarter, returned from the locker room to showcase two historic quarters – completing 13 of 14 passes in the second half for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He is now the winner of two Super Bowls in only a five-season career – a victory that you would be forgiven for assuming qualifies ownership of one of the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/house-design/worlds-best-homes">world&apos;s best homes</a>. His mid-century modern ranch in Kansas City is surprisingly more understated than you might expect, however. </p><p>According to <a href="https://www.workandmoney.com/s/patrick-mahomes-house-kansas-city-ba2832595b7942d5" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><em>Work and Money</em></a>, Patrick Mahomes&apos; home (that he purchased in 2019 for $1.75 million to $1.9 million – however, records don&apos;t say the exact figure). Instead, the quarterback lives with his wife, Brittany, in what is described as a &apos;very nice but understated contemporary ranch&apos; on a 1.4-acre lot by the Country Club District.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CNGoeYsH2qC/" target="_blank">A post shared by Patrick Mahomes II (@patrickmahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>The 4,343 square foot home comes with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms – enough room for Patrick, Brittany, and their two children, Sterling Skye and Patrick Lavon Mahomes III. </p><p>Built in 1953, the home exhibits mid-century modern architectural features and <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/decorating-ideas">decorating ideas</a> through its built-in cabinetry and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the main living spaces with sunlight. Its contemporary <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/room-color-ideas">color ideas</a> (seen through its sleek white and gray palette) contrast the retro fireplace that celebrates the home&apos;s twentieth-century roots without making the space appear outdated.  </p><p>Alongside the living space, the home has a wet bar and a large kitchen with white marble <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/kitchen-countertop-ideas">countertops</a> contrasting the wooden cabinets. </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/B48KFe9Jkuw/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>Per property records acquired by <em>Work and Money</em>, Patrick and Brittany spent around  $400,000 updating the 70-year-old house themselves – shortly after they gave up renting to invest in their long-time home. </p><p>&apos;It&apos;s cool just to have our own house where we can grow into, and so this is definitely a big step in our life, the sportsman told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcZuEOCxIBU&t=1&ab_channel=BleacherReport" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><em>Bleacher Report</em></a><em> after the sale. &apos;</em>Renting a house wasn&apos;t for us. We wanted our own place.&apos; </p><p>He added that owning a home allowed him and his family to experiment with <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design">interior design</a> ideas as they pleased – including nailing decorations into the wall – and doing &apos;whatever you want with the home now.&apos; </p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CIJYDilp95q/" target="_blank">A post shared by Steel & Silver (@steel_silver_mahomes)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>In terms of Patrick&apos;s <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/backyard-ideas">backyard ideas</a>, the home appears to be surrounded by trees and has a verdant patch where his children can play.
