'A client once asked me to help them create a hygge-inspired holiday look. As mentioned, the ornaments seen on the Mahomes family tree have the rare ability to transcend design trends (considering it still looks as good this year as it did in 2021). But what makes this look so eternal? 'It's their ability to connect with personal values,' Bramlett says.

'Whether it’s honoring tradition, embracing simplicity, or creating fun for your family, they all tap into something real. The best Christmas decor isn’t about impressing anyone; it’s about creating a space where you feel at home. That’s what I focus on with every project – helping people find what speaks to them and bringing it to life in a way that feels genuine.'

Cushions need to be made from the good stuff—something that won’t crumble after a few seasons in the sun,' suggests Gutierrez. Following that Superbowl win, the world is inevitably looking at Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may be synonymous with his red jersey, but his family abode is notably more pared-back. From what we have seen, almost the entirety of his home boasts a neutral color palette – but no space is quite as soothing as his living space, which has impressed color experts the most.

According to Lick's color psychologist, Tash Bradley, 'hushing our home' translates to creating personal sanctuaries we can retreat to when we want to feel safe, calm and comforted. Considering Patrick's schedule, we're not surprised his living room color choices were likely picked with peace in mind. However, this technique is replicable far beyond Missouri.

'In order to hush your home, avoid colors that can make a room feel visually cluttered and overstimulating, such as bright reds, oranges, or primary yellows. Instead, opt for colors that don’t ask too much from you,' Tash says. 

For the perfect starting point, we should draw inspiration from Patrick and Brittany Mahome's color choices and opt for beiges, whites, and creams that complement one another without feeling overpowering.  

Alongside these neutrals, Tash recommends yellow and red-based neutrals, earthy greens, gentle blues, and soothing pinks that are similarly 'easy on the eye' and 'bring a sense of calm and harmony into our home.'

Colors aside, Tash explains that Patrick's minimalist approach to furnishings equally allows his living room to feel 'hushed.' While we can only see a section of the wider space, this area is undeniably minimalist and brings our focus to the aforementioned fireplace and undressed windowsills. 

'Hushing your home means adopting a more minimal approach to living. Although ‘minimal’ may trigger associations of restrictive living or dull decor, hushing your home in practice offers the complete opposite – it gives furnishings room to breathe and shine,' Tash reassures.

'Hushing is working out what you love most about the items in your home and working out which ones you want to keep and which ones to rehome. In hushed spaces, every item is chosen based on its level of usefulness, beauty, and the amount of joy you get from it, giving your space a curated feel. Anecdotally, at least, it’s true that a cluttered home creates a cluttered mind. A hushed home, by contrast, helps to hush a busy mind and help you switch off.'

However, as William Durrant, the owner of Herringbone, explains, their texture makes these cabinets even trendier. Patrick Mahomes' kitchen uses veined marble and matte cabinetry to add interest to the neutral space, but various textures will top kitchen trends in the year ahead.

'Reeded cabinetry, textured glass, and all kinds of vertical textures is a beautiful design element for 2024,' he says.

'Not only does it make your cabinets, dressers, or bars stand out, but it also adds texture to the kitchen and cabinets while hiding the potential mess inside the cupboards.'

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is among the most celebrated footballers of a generation – with two Super Bowls (in only a five-season career) to his name. Naturally, his reputation comes with a need for privacy, most especially in his Kansas City suburb home. This is where his clever choice of planting comes into play. 

In their yard, Patrick and his wife Brittany use the ancient agricultural practice of espalier to create a tall, vertical wall made entirely of trees. The most successful trees to espalier are often fruit trees – planted with the aim to grow straight against a wall (or, in Patrick's case, a fence). These trees are among the best plants for privacy – but, as mentioned, it is no new phenomenon.

While the Mahomes' use espalier for privacy, their history dates back through the centuries to French monk Fr. Lergendre, who experimented with espalier as a way to grow food in a small garden. His method worked, and to this day, the art of training fruit trees to grow against a wall (in artfully pruned shapes) lives on to the contemporary day. 

Patrick and Brittany have used what appears to be hornbeam trees to create a tall border that adds privacy beyond their fence – but this technique is just as possible with other plants. 

Firstly, fruit trees are an effective alternative when planting for privacy, but practicalities aside, we can also use vertical planting for aesthetic benefits.  

'Vertical planting utilizes the vertical space to introduce a vibrant and dynamic element to your surroundings. Based on the results I've seen over my years in the landscaping industry, vertical planting can truly transform the appearance of an area, creating an inviting and visually appealing atmosphere,' he says. 

'Most people don't know this, but vertical planting allows you to incorporate plants that climb, vine, or have a trailing growth habit, creating a captivating living wall that captures attention and brings life to any space.'

When selecting plants for vertical planting (hornbeam and fruit trees aside), Bryan says it is essential we consider their light requirements, maintenance needs, and suitability for vertical growth.

'By carefully choosing plants like climbing roses, ivy, jasmine, or trailing vines (such as sweet potato vine or English ivy), you can achieve excellent coverage and enhance the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor area,' he says. 

Lastly, while we can use this technique for added privacy and interest, we can also use it to hide an unsightly wall – which is not the case in Patrick's yard – but still good to note. 

'If you have an unsightly wall, don't overlook the potential of vertical planting. Embrace this strategy and transform it into a stunning vertical garden.'

Football quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, are selling their 1950s Kansas City Home, four years after purchase, for just under $3 million.

The Kansas City Chiefs star and winner of two Super Bowls (so far) purchased the ranch in 2019, around the same time he won his first Super Bowl championship. The Texas native then went on to sign a $503 million NFL contract with the aforementioned Missouri-based team while creating a family with his personal trainer wife, Brittany. 

The couple is now reportedly selling their 'surprisingly understated' Kansas City home, which they purchased for around $1.9 million, according to Dirt. Built in the 1950s, the modest ranch-style structure boasts midcentury bones – but recently underwent a $400,000 renovation under the couple's ownership. 

Hidden on over an acre of land (and protected by tall gates and a security system), the ranch offers the privacy Patrick and Brittany likely crave for their young family. Outdoor amenities also include an outdoor living space with a fire pit, a  putting green, a heated pool, and a garage for up to five vehicles.

Inside, the home comprises three bedrooms and four bathrooms across 4,800 square feet of open-plan living space. Many of the rooms boast blonde hardwood floors and expansive glass walls that flood the home with natural light. 

The open-concept floor features formal living and dining spaces, a modern sunroom, and a family room with a wet bar, leading to a neutral-hued kitchen with an eat-in island and a range hood built into the ceiling. 

The primary bedroom suite includes a private sitting area and dual closets, along with access to an en-suite with a shower and large soaking tub.

It is not yet confirmed where Patrick and Brittany are planning to move; however, we'd hazard a guess that they will stay in Kansas City, thanks to his position in the team. 

Dirt also reports that Patrick owns a Dallas-area mansion he purchased for $3.37 million in 2020 and a two-bedroom Missouri apartment since 2017. 

Reports also suggest Patrick and Brittany purchased a $400,000 plot of land within Kansas City's gated Loch Lloyd country club community, where he is expected to build a mansion with a 'half football field.'

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is perhaps the most celebrated figure of the Superbowl, and for a good reason. 

The 27-year-old, who aggravated his high ankle sprain in the second quarter, returned from the locker room to showcase two historic quarters – completing 13 of 14 passes in the second half for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He is now the winner of two Super Bowls in only a five-season career – a victory that you would be forgiven for assuming qualifies ownership of one of the world's best homes. His mid-century modern ranch in Kansas City is surprisingly more understated than you might expect, however. 

According to Work and Money, Patrick Mahomes' home (that he purchased in 2019 for $1.75 million to $1.9 million – however, records don't say the exact figure). Instead, the quarterback lives with his wife, Brittany, in what is described as a 'very nice but understated contemporary ranch' on a 1.4-acre lot by the Country Club District.

The 4,343 square foot home comes with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms – enough room for Patrick, Brittany, and their two children, Sterling Skye and Patrick Lavon Mahomes III. 

Built in 1953, the home exhibits mid-century modern architectural features and decorating ideas through its built-in cabinetry and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the main living spaces with sunlight. Its contemporary color ideas (seen through its sleek white and gray palette) contrast the retro fireplace that celebrates the home's twentieth-century roots without making the space appear outdated.  

Alongside the living space, the home has a wet bar and a large kitchen with white marble countertops contrasting the wooden cabinets. 

Per property records acquired by Work and Money, Patrick and Brittany spent around  $400,000 updating the 70-year-old house themselves – shortly after they gave up renting to invest in their long-time home. 

'It's cool just to have our own house where we can grow into, and so this is definitely a big step in our life, the sportsman told Bleacher Report after the sale. 'Renting a house wasn't for us. We wanted our own place.' 

He added that owning a home allowed him and his family to experiment with interior design ideas as they pleased – including nailing decorations into the wall – and doing 'whatever you want with the home now.' 

In terms of Patrick's backyard ideas, the home appears to be surrounded by trees and has a verdant patch where his children can play. The property is only a short drive away to the luxe landscape and amenities of Mission Hills Country Club and Arrowhead Stadium (home of the Chiefs) is only nine miles away.
