'The sumptuous sofa trend is very much a part of the idea that comfort is king,' Mather explains. 'In an uncertain world, we want to feel cocooned and safe when we get home from a busy day. Snuggling down on an almost bed-like sofa is very much a part of this.'

Mather also says that boucle sofas are excellent options looking to make a statement in the living room, and stray away from uniformity.

'There is also a move away from the formalness of matching sets – which is great if you just want to switch up your sofa and keep other seating within the scheme.'

As far as colors go, Mather says that muted shades go best, but ultimately,the palette is a personal choice.

'Neutrals work well with this vibe - including pastel shades of green and pink – but color choice doesn’t define this style … it’s about the luxury of casual styling that makes us feel fantastic.'

When it comes to darker rooms, for instance, those that are decorated with black, Hilary recommends warmer, more romantic scents. 

'Darker spaces for me totally feel like cozy palo santo, cedar, oud, and clean clothes. You want to get cozy in darker spaces, and it just calls for a heavier, maybe even a slightly more masculine, scent.'

Hilary continues, 'If you're looking to wind down, you want warmer, more natural scents. For me, when I'm having a daytime party, I want brighter florals. If I have a night party, I'm hanging with my girlfriends or our neighbors or something like that. I won't like something headier and moodier.' From romantic scents to calming scents, there's a home fragrance for every mood.

Furthermore, for Hilary, it's not just about overwhelming the home with as many tricks to make your home smell nice as possible. She says, 'I think less is more. There's a big movement towards stripping down your lifestyle and figuring out what is essential to you.'

She continues, 'For me, that's having my home and my space dialed to where I can just leave the outside world and be in there with myself or with my family. A space where I feel like it's 100 percent a representation of my life and representation of who we are, how we live, what we like, what we stand for, and what we enjoy so and then that is like also sharing it with other people that come over.' Hilary states: 'It's like a fine line that you have to walk because you don't want to just blast people and have so much going on when they walk into the house. I want cohesion.' How does Hilary Duff scent her own home? In our interview, Hilary states: 'I want the bathroom to feel a little fresher. I don't want a crazy, overpowering scent in the kitchen, but I want something pleasant. Maybe something a little darker and warmer in the living room, especially if there's a fireplace. For my bedroom, I want something that's not too energizing because I want to feel like I can unwind there and start to implement, like, you know, resting and good habits for winding down.'

Whether you go with a lighter or darker shade, Jay recommends keeping other aspects of the kitchen, such as appliances and shelving, in neutrals like beige and grey to allow the tiles to take center stage. 'Or, for a bolder statement, pair it with yellow, orange, pink, or purple,' he says. 'Just remember, keep the rest of the room simple so your tiles can be the stars.'

Keeping the rest of the kitchen neutral is a safe move, but accessorizing is a fantastic opportunity to subtly tie some more greens into the space.

'Green cookbooks, cute bowls, even leafy artwork – these little touches add personality and polish to your green-tiled masterpiece,' Jay suggests. He also recommends trying out some green decor in interesting textures, like linens or a jute rug.

Naturally, this carries over to greenery in the truest sense as well. 'Hang some plants, decorate with botanical prints, or even add some leafy dishware. Your kitchen will feel like a breath of fresh air.'

Hilary Duff, who is most known for her leading roles in the Lizzie McGuire television series and movie, has a keen interest in interior design, and we're lucky enough to sometimes catch glimpses into her Beverly Hills family home via her Instagram.
