You may have ruled out pink as a serious decor shade in the past (I'm guilty, too), thinking it's more schoolgirl's bedroom than chic and luxurious.

But, Hillary Duff's bathroom (yes, it's her daughter's, but stay with us here), is a far cry from the Barbie and bubblegum hues that have given this shade a bad rep in the world of interiors – in fact, it has proved that pink room ideas can be beautifully sophisticated and timeless. Start with some tiles (like Wayfair's Lava Stone Subway Tiles) to recreate her look.

Anh Ly, architect-turned-designer and founder of design store, Mim Concept, explains: 'Pink in a bathroom can read as playful or outdated if it's too bright or literal, but when you treat it like a neutral with attitude, it becomes unexpectedly sophisticated. The key is choosing the right shades. Dusty rose, blush with gray undertones, or pinks with warm terracotta influence feel far more elevated than bubblegum.'

A post shared by Jenna Ohnemus Peffley (@jennapeffley)

A photo posted by on

Anh adds: 'I love pairing these tones with natural materials like honed marble, limestone or warm wood; the softness of the pink balances the earthiness of the stone and prevents the space from feeling sugary. For metallics, brushed brass or satin bronze adds warmth and a subtle glamour that reads chic rather than kitschy.'

Below, I've rounded up a selection of pieces inspired by Hillary Duff's bathroom color ideas, from statement tiles to set the tone, to metallic and neutral accessories to keep the look pared back and elegant.

Shop Hillary Duff's Pink Bathroom Look

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Modern silhouette

Lylian Oval Wall Mirror

A bold bathroom mirror, like Hillary Duff's not only serves a practical purpose but also bounces the light and color around the room, while the subtle brushed brass frame adds instant luxe.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Statement tiles

Lava Stone Subway Tile

These stunning subway tiles feature a variation in pigment, which gives them a depth and the feeling of texture.
No longer relegated to your grandfather's 1970s den, the mustard sofa has found a chic new home in Hilary Duff's living room. Accordingly, we're predicting a resurgence of the earthy, warm, and uplifting color for the coming year.

Hilary shared her gorgeous sofa color trend in a recent Instagram post, posing on the yellow furnishing in the center of her living room (similar to this velvet couch from Wayfair). It's the perfect complement to the dark wood paneling that leans against her white walls. As 'quiet luxury' continues to fade, warm spaces like Hilary Duff's living room will only grow more popular.

She states: 'Interiors should be a bold celebration of personality and color. Gone are the days of beige restraint and minimalist hush; in their place rises a symphony of saturated hues that spark energy and joy. Picture mustard yellows that radiate warmth like bottled sunshine, and royal blues that ground a room with regal confidence and depth. It's about creating rooms that don’t just look good but also uplift your mood. Maximalism isn’t excess, it’s expression. It's a vivid reminder that our spaces should move us, mirror us, and, most of all, make us happy to be home.'

Hilary Duff has always been a design pioneer, and her use of mustard yellow in her living room is further proof of its timelessness. As our interiors shift to reflect warmth and happiness, we're excited to see even more of this color everywhere.

Tapping into underutilized space in the home is like building an extension, without the price or hassle. Hilary Duff demonstrated exactly this when she built a bijou 'floating office,' in her bedroom, instantly transforming one room into two.

The actress and singer created her small home office with the help of David Samuel Ko's design practice, Maison Ko. Their look incorporates a gold floating desk which hangs from Hilary's white walls. Cohesive built-in shelves add plenty of storage space, while a modern chair keeps the look just minimal enough.

On Instagram, Hilary explains: 'I decided to utilize this sweet nook in our bedroom for a small thinking space/office for myself. I loved the idea of a floating desk so everything still felt very light and sleek.'

Hilary Duff's bedroom office (Image credit: Michael P.H. Hannah Prescott, Interior Designer at Diamond Interiors, breaks down the importance of each furnishing, and how you can use them to achieve a stunningly muted style.

Hannah explains: 'Wall home office desks are an ideal solution for modern small offices because they free up floor space and create a streamlined look. Pair a white desk with a matching wall for a seamless, minimalist effect.'

Elevated storage is essential to setting the aesthetic apart. Hannah states: 'Transforming a nook or cabinet into a built-in workspace is a great way to maximise space while keeping things modern. It’s also an excellent way to hide clutter, as built-ins often offer integrated storage.'

Finally, it's essential to be discerning when choosing a desk chair. 'Your office chair is a central piece of furniture, so it should align with your modern aesthetic,' advises Hannah. 'Choose a chair with a sleek design, like one with an open back or subtle curves, to avoid making the room feel crowded.'

Small spaces are some of the most important in our home; with the right details, they can have the biggest impact.

Right on cue for the new year, the company has unveiled three new fragrances, each one distinct and appealing to different scent preferences. The actress, famously a practice of fragrance layering, has been known to use her scents to allow her space to evolve with the time of the day – and her new launch gives us a fresh opportunity to bring her practice into our homes.

'These scents are the perfect blend of cozy, bold richness to elevate the little moments throughout your day,' Duff states in the caption of her post, showing off the new products.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Smoky

Smoke Rings Around an Autumn Moon - Fragrance Refill

As the title suggests, this seasonal scent transports you to a fall landscape with notes of rustic leaves, sweet almond and cinnamon.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Luxury

Hinoki Shadows in a Bourbon Bar - Fragrance Refill

Hinoki, bergamot and vetiver make up this enchanting fragrance, ideal for evenings.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Floral

I Knew You Would Notice - Fragrance Refill

This rich blend of hyacinth blooms, honeysuckle, and jasmine, leads into a base of musk, amber and patchouli, making it the perfect scent for floral-lovers.

<blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; All the scents are compatible with Below 60's signature diffuser, which has a simple, elegant design.

Adding a scent diffuser in the home is a great way to scent-scape, a practice that Duff adheres to and which involves placing different scents in different areas in order to curate a specific atmosphere.

'I feel like scent zoning is kind of like music,' she told us last year. 'Where you play a certain song because you're feeling a certain way. So, obviously, the signature scent you want can change depending on if you're entertaining, or you're just home alone, or your kids are having a bunch of friends over It's something that constantly shifts. I think it just makes sense because it's just another expression of what you're into at the time and how to make your personal space the most personal to you.'

All of the scent refills are available individually on Below 60's website for $12.99 or can be purchased as part of a subscription for $10.39. There is also a seasonal starter kit that comes with all three fragrances along with the diffuser for $58.99. If there's ever a time to try something like scent scaping, it's now – this could transform your home for the year ahead, and if it's Duff-approved, we're certainly willing to give it a go.

When we think of beautiful homes, we almost always discuss interiors, but exteriors can be strangely absent from the conversation. Hilary Duff's home shows why leaving outdoor spaces out of the design sphere is a huge mistake.

The actress and Below60° shared her outdoor living room on Instagram and it's a sight to behold. The actress's furnished patio is built of warmly finished natural wood that stretches over two levels. White seating and low coffee tables give the space a cozy, sophisticated feel. A potted cactus and palm tree add a bit of greenery for a grounded feel. We see her whole family posed on the surface, indicating it's a space where they spend a lot of time.

With its neutral color palette and natural elements, Hilary's space taps into the quiet luxury interior design trend permeating the design sphere for all of 2024. This trend prioritizes high-quality furniture and a warm, neutral color palette. However, through the natural wood, Duff's look taps into this trend in a gorgeous, understated way.

A post shared by Hilary Duff

A photo posted by hilaryduff on

This pared back version of quiet luxury look is represented across patio furniture trends for 2024. Rikke Blaeside, design manager at Scandinavian furniture brand JYSK, tells Homes & Gardens: 'To make a design-led statement, garden furniture pieces with minimal impact and paired-back silhouettes are gaining traction, providing a modern and easy-breezy feel within outdoor spaces. This trend has taken hold throughout the garden furniture portfolio, from sunloungers with woven bases to sleek metal tables and chairs.'

She advises: 'The best approach is to opt for furniture items that do not feel bulky or heavy within the space, but seamlessly blend into the garden area, without impacting the surroundings and atmosphere of the area.'

The strong use of wood and plants on Hilary Duff's patio is also reflective of current trends. Blaeside says, 'When it comes to garden design and outdoor living, we’re often inspired by our natural surroundings and SS24 is no different. Once again, we’re seeing a resurgence in naturally inspired materials and finishes, with metal and stone taking centre stage this year. Consciously crafted products are made from these robust materials, providing a visual contrast to the surrounding greenery.'

Shop the Outdoor Living Room Edit

When building an outdoor living room, it can look especially chic to echo the decor on the inside of your home for a more polished, cohesive look.
When it comes to living room decor, sofas reign supreme in their ability to bring comfort and style to a space. One sofa continues to dominate trends with its minimal-yet-bold appearance, most notably via its grainy texture: boucle.

Hilary Duff is on board with the style, having recently posted a photo of her own grand boucle sofa in her living room. The cream couch contrasts her opaque, blue curtains, making for a combination of delightful textures.

Experts say that this design trend is on par with what we see on people's bodies; that is, a relaxed but chic appearance.

A post shared by Hilary Duff (@hilaryduff)

A photo posted by on

'Like with designer luxury fashion that's very much gone down the casual styling, athleisure route, so have sofas,' says Lucy Mather, sofa specialist at Arighi Bianchi. 'There are now lots more oversized luxury sofas featuring pillow back designs and boucle fabrics.'

Gone are the days of stuffy or stiff sofas taking up space in our homes. The boucle sofa is a prime example of our desire to achieve comfort and style in our space, a top priority for so many of us.

'The sumptuous sofa trend is very much a part of the idea that comfort is king,' Mather explains. 'In an uncertain world, we want to feel cocooned and safe when we get home from a busy day. Snuggling down on an almost bed-like sofa is very much a part of this.'

Mather also says that boucle sofas are excellent options looking to make a statement in the living room, and stray away from uniformity.

'There is also a move away from the formalness of matching sets – which is great if you just want to switch up your sofa and keep other seating within the scheme.'

As far as colors go, Mather says that muted shades go best, but ultimately,the palette is a personal choice.

'Neutrals work well with this vibe - including pastel shades of green and pink – but color choice doesn’t define this style … it’s about the luxury of casual styling that makes us feel fantastic.'

Shop H&G's top boucle picks

Below, we have rounded up a few different sizes and shapes of boucle sofas to suit a variety of spaces.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Boucle Sofa with Wood Legs

From 1,299.00 at West Elm

Low profile, blonde wood legs add a natural element to this curvy couch.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Boucle Loveseat

From $1,499.00 at CB2

This loveseat by Goop is casual but sophisticated, with ample room for lounging.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Curved Boucle Sofa

From $2,299.00 at Crate & Barrel

This curved sofa has a floating effect and the softest lines.

You might know Hilary Duff best from her iconic roles in mid-aughts shows like Lizzie McGuire and Gossip Girl, but did you know she's also a scent expert?

Disillusioned with the lack of high-quality, all-natural home fragrances on the market, Hilary founded Below 60° in late 2023. Her fragrance diffusers champion all-natural ingredients: they are made to be safe for families, safe for pets, and safe for you. Even better, they are built with design in mind. The look is sleek, simple, and luxurious, meant to fit in seamlessly with your design and easily match the traditional look of other essential oil diffusers.

Earlier this month, we sat down with Hilary to get all of her hottest takes on the best ways to use home scents for well-being, mood, and design. She explained how she likes to pair varied signature scents with different designs to amplify the style. We'll definitely be taking on all of her advice in our own homes.

(Image credit: Below 60)

First, Hilary spoke on minimalist decor. 'I definitely think that if you have a bright, minimalist space and that's your aesthetic, then I'd recommend scents that are a little more clean smelling,' she says. Some examples are green leaves, grapefruits, figs, and eucalyptus. For some reason, light, bright, and airy feels like clean green scents to me.'

However, she's not an essentialist about it. Hilary said: 'I don't know, florals also go really well in a minimalist, modern home. I like lilac and hyacinth.' If you like a few different scents in a contemporary space, fragrance layering is a great option.

(Image credit: GettyImages )

When it comes to darker rooms, for instance, those that are decorated with black, Hilary recommends warmer, more romantic scents.

'Darker spaces for me totally feel like cozy palo santo, cedar, oud, and clean clothes.
Over the past year, design trends like 'dopamine decor' have emphasized the need for joy and play in our homes. While the impact of color or pattern on our happiness levels is well-documented, there is another mood-boosting element of interior design that is often overlooked: scent.

As the founder of an all-natural home fragrance brand, the actress turned scent-maven Hilary Duff knows a thing or two about how smells can impact our moods. Hilary joined Homes & Gardens to talk about her luxury diffuser range Below 60° and her favorite ways to use fragrance in her home. It all comes down to individual taste.

'I think it helps to pair scent with the vibe you're looking for,' Hilary told Homes & Gardens exclusively. 'You have to figure out what works for you. You have to be in tune with what you like and what you don't like, and you have to try new things.'

(Image credit: GettyImages )

Whether it is using one of your favorite candles or an essential oil diffuser, choosing scents that you love for your home matters.

'I set the mood a lot with essential oils but also, if I wake up and feel a certain way, I like to choose a scent to accentuate that. For me, I love vanilla in my bedroom. It just makes me wake up easily. I feel cozy, and it feels warm. I don't want to jolt awake, and vanilla helps give me that slow start.'

For every mood, there is a way to make your home smell nice. Hilary says, 'If I've already had my coffee and maybe I'm in my bathroom getting ready, then I want something like if citrus were a feeling from Below 60°. It feels a lot more energized. It's a grapefruit-forward, bright citrus blend.,

Hilary continues, 'If you're looking to wind down, you want warmer, more natural scents. For me, when I'm having a daytime party, I want brighter florals. If I have a night party, I'm hanging with my girlfriends or our neighbors or something like that. I won't like something headier and moodier.' From romantic scents to calming scents, there's a home fragrance for every mood.

Furthermore, for Hilary, it's not just about overwhelming the home with as many tricks to make your home smell nice as possible. She says, 'I think less is more. There's a big movement towards stripping down your lifestyle and figuring out what is essential to you.'

She continues, 'For me, that's having my home and my space dialed to where I can just leave the outside world and be in there with myself or with my family. A space where I feel like it's 100 percent a representation of my life and representation of who we are, how we live, what we like, what we stand for, and what we enjoy so and then that is like also sharing it with other people that come over.' An artfully chosen signature scent can help create this atmosphere of peace.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Starter Kit

This discrete diffuser is perfect for filling your home with Hilary Duff's 100% natural fragrances.
Fragrance is an essential element of interior design. Furthermore, design choices like using a signature scent in each room introduce an experiential element that can expand and improve upon one's home.

No one knows this better than actress turned home fragrance mogul Hilary Duff. Hilary co-founded Below 60° in November 2023 to create beautiful natural home fragrances that help people feel happier at home, and her all-natural diffusers have been spreading joy ever since. With the increasing popularity of home fragrances (for instance, Klarna reported a 132% increase in the purchase of essential oil diffusers in Sept 2023), homeowners are exploring new methods of scenting their homes for interest and impact.

One such method is 'scent-zoning,' or using varied fragrances in different spaces in your house. We spoke with Hilary to discuss her thoughts on the trend and how she layers fragrance in her home.

A post shared by Below 60° (@below_60)

A photo posted by on

Hilary tells H&G exclusively, 'I was following this trend long before I heard the term' scent zoning.' I think that the scent that I want going in my bathroom is going to be different than what I want in my kitchen or my bedroom.'

She continues, 'I feel like scent zoning is kind of like music. You know? Where you play a certain song because you're feeling a certain way. So, obviously, the signature scent you want can change depending on if you're entertaining, or you're just home alone, or your kids are having a bunch of friends over.'

'It's something that constantly shifts. I think it just makes sense because it's just another expression of what you're into at the time and how to make your personal space the most personal to you,' adds Hilary.

However, there is an art to the delicate practice of making your home smell good without overwhelming the senses. Hilary states: 'It's like a fine line that you have to walk because you don't want to just blast people and have so much going on when they walk into the house. I want cohesion.' No matter if you're using candles or reed diffusers to scent the house, this sense of connectedness is what's most important.

How does Hilary Duff scent her own home? In our interview, Hilary states: 'I want the bathroom to feel a little fresher. I don't want a crazy, overpowering scent in the kitchen, but I want something pleasant. Maybe something a little darker and warmer in the living room, especially if there's a fireplace. For my bedroom, I want something that's not too energizing because I want to feel like I can unwind there and start to implement, like, you know, resting and good habits for winding down.'

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Starter Kit

This discrete diffuser is perfect for filling your home with Hilary Duff's 100% natural fragrances.
Hilary Duff's interiors are a constant source of inspiration – whether she's experimenting with statement furniture or showing off ways to make an office space inviting, we know we can count on the former Lizzie McGuire star to give us some top-tier home content.

Her latest Instagram post is a prime example of her excellent taste – her expansive kitchen, featuring open shelving, white cabinetry, and silver accents, is made by its gorgeous green kitchen tiles.

While green is often a pick for bathroom tiling, we love that Hilary took the rich hue into her kitchen, adding a pop of color and vibrancy to the otherwise neutral space. There are a few tips to keep in mind when building around green in the kitchen.

'Pick your green wisely: Mint, emerald, olive, sage, forest – explore different shades to find one that speaks to you,' says Jay. 'The vibe you want – cozy, calming, or dramatic – will depend on your choice.'

Whether you go with a lighter or darker shade, Jay recommends keeping other aspects of the kitchen, such as appliances and shelving, in neutrals like beige and grey to allow the tiles to take center stage. 'Or, for a bolder statement, pair it with yellow, orange, pink, or purple,' he says. 'Just remember, keep the rest of the room simple so your tiles can be the stars.'

Keeping the rest of the kitchen neutral is a safe move, but accessorizing is a fantastic opportunity to subtly tie some more greens into the space.

'Green cookbooks, cute bowls, even leafy artwork – these little touches add personality and polish to your green-tiled masterpiece,' Jay suggests. He also recommends trying out some green decor in interesting textures, like linens or a jute rug.

Naturally, this carries over to greenery in the truest sense as well. 'Hang some plants, decorate with botanical prints, or even add some leafy dishware.
Conversations around decreased consumption and investing in furniture wisely are nothing new, but increased concern with sustainability has brought them to the forefront. However, there is another, simple and practical reason to invest in high-quality heirloom pieces rather than looking for quick solutions, and it has to do with decorating. Well-constructed, traditional pieces can last in your home through several redecorations without looking out of place. Hilary Duff's entryway provides the perfect example.

The actress's entryway decor includes an antique mahogany sideboard with extensive open storage and closed cabinets. Its long and flat top provides room for decorative objects, vases, and books. Above the table, a large, classic, circular mirror provides a reflection that makes the space appear larger. On the side, a spindly, antique chair adds an open, stylish statement.

A post shared by Hilary Duff (@hilaryduff)

A photo posted by on

In 2019, when this part of the home was first decorated, it had a bright and cheery dopamine decor for the entryway color scheme. The decor included a brightly colored abstract painting, houseplants reaching up across the space, and a series of brightly colored art books. On the floor, a pink, blue, and purple carpet brings out the bright colors in the decor.

Photos show that although by 2022 the decor had turned into more of a cozy entryway vibe, Hilary's furniture remained the same. A neutral vase with eucalyptus leaves and an orange and white rug had been added, but the open-concept chair and sideboard stayed constant. As decor changes, the antique furniture makes Hilary's entryway a timeless room.

A post shared by @studiolifestyle_

A photo posted by on

Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens states: 'Timeless and traditional furniture is a great way to ground your space. Regardless of how styles change, it will always look stylish and cool. Be sure to choose quality pieces you love, so that these pieces will always feel new for you too.'

As if to illustrate Jen's point, Hilary redecorated once again in 2023 for a very pared-back, calming entryway color scheme. The style has drastically changed with a black and white cushion on the chair, a brownish seasonal bouquet, and a Louis Vuitton box on the sideboard. However, the furniture remains constant, signaling the timelessness of decorating with antiques and unique vintage pieces.

A post shared by Hilary Duff (@hilaryduff)

A photo posted by on

Shop the Edit

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Ladder Back Arm Chair

This antique chair was built in 1870 of rush and wood for a long-lasting construction.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Mahogany Sideboard

This European mahogany sideboard has individual black leather handles and an iron base. If she could choose one designer to transform her space, it would be Jake Arnold, whose refined interiors and serene color palettes she considers unmatched.</p> </dc:description>

American actress and singer Hilary Duff's inviting and calm Hollywood home has become the talk of the design world for one significant reason; it champions 'warm minimalism' – the latest interior design trend taking over our Instagram feeds.

But what is it about this luxurious look that has captivated designers and homeowners alike? Warm minimalism, much like the quiet luxury trend, is having its moment in the spotlight. Unlike its cooler yet more clinical sister, a warm minimalist interior promises to exude more character and comfort into a clean and functional space.

Designed by Jenni Kayne, Hilary Duff's home is the perfect embodiment of this popular, welcoming aesthetic. The simplest way to achieve this look, as Jenni Kayne has done, is to mimic the warmest colors from nature. Inspired by colors and materials from the natural world, warm minimalism adds a gentle and soothing touch to interiors that can be layered with textures and tones to ebb and flow with the seasons.

A post shared by Jenni Kayne Home (@jennikaynehome)

A photo posted by on

'There’s a definite move towards warm minimalist interior design,' says Becca Galbraith, designer and founder of Becca Interiors. 'The deeper hues and rich, neutral tones resonate with our desire to be more at one with nature. As a result, we are starting to see more and more people decorating with gold, beige, taupe and ochre tones to create spaces that are elegant, simple and serene. It’s about building a sense of cohesion, so no piece of furniture or color is over-dominating the space.'

To recreate the calm aesthetic in Hilary's home, the key is to keep this look as simple as possible. Source one or two statement pieces of furniture or furnishings as the backbone of your room, and pull out colors, materials and shapes for the rest of your decorating ideas.

If in any doubt, start with the flooring. In this Jenni Kayne-designed space, the Lodge Handwoven Rug acts as a precursor to the colors and tones used elsewhere. Decorating with beige, gray and taupe helps to ground the room, evoking a sense of calm and tranquility – a wonderful choice for the entrance to a home.

'Using a natural palette is all about adding depth and contrast in different layers and textures,' says Jane Landino, creative head of the studio at Taylor Howes. 'To make a warm minimalist color palette feel designed and considered it’s important to incorporate plenty of texture to stop the space feeling lifeless or dull.'

Here, Jenni Kayne layered her Alpaca Basketweave Pillows and Alpaca Basketweave Lumbar Pillow to add depth, warmth, and a hint of subtle color to Hilary Duff's living room seating.

Shop our Hilary Duff edit

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Alpaca Basketweave Lumbar Pillow

$147

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Lodge Handwoven Rug

$1,495 for 6 x 9

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Alpaca Basketweave Pillow

$169

Scent hasn't traditionally been considered a part of interior design but this perception is rapidly changing. Fragrance is increasingly thought of as an integral part of styling a room, with more and more heritage design companies adding candles, diffusers, and room sprays to their offerings. Further evidence for the scent-as-interior-design trend comes from an unexpected place: Hilary Duff's new company, Below 60°

The actress and singer-turned-businesswoman has launched a line of 100% natural fragrance diffusers, with three unique scents available. Inspired by the pristine air in Antarctica, Hillary's brand signals the continuation of the interior design trend into 2024.

A post shared by Below 60° (@below_60)

A photo posted by on

When it comes to ways to make your home smell nice, there are seemingly endless options. However, what sets Hilary Duff's new company apart is its commitment to using natural ingredients. The Below 60 site states that they use 100% natural materials without any synthetic fragrances or artificial dyes. The brand also prides itself on the discreet design of the diffuser that is meant to blend in seamlessly with your design.

Interestingly, Below 60 cites that, 'the connection between scent and our purest, most potent memories is proven by science.' This expert-backed theory on the power of scent is one of the number one reasons for the rising fragrance trend in homes. In an increasingly digital world, our connection to our material surroundings can feel tenuous at best. Fragrance provides grounding properties that help us to build cherished experiences in beloved spaces. For these reasons, we predict this trend is built to last.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Starter Kit

This discrete diffuser is perfect for filling your home with Hilary Duff's 100% natural fragrances.
Hilary Duff, who is most known for her leading roles in the Lizzie McGuire television series and movie, has a keen interest in interior design, and we're lucky enough to sometimes catch glimpses into her Beverly Hills family home via her Instagram.

As pictured below, the candid snapshots show two key pieces of furniture: a classical, dark-stained wooden chair and a ‘70s-esque warm-toned sideboard. While technically the two pieces may not belong to the same era of furniture styles, the balance between the two strikes a warm, homely feeling.

A post shared by Hilary Duff (@hilaryduff)

A photo posted by on

Sticking to just one style of furniture in a room can be limiting, and can sometimes hold back creativity and prevent true personality from being shown. Having instead a considered collection of varying styles allows for a more experiential take on design, and also promotes a lived-in, collected feel.

Previously talking to Architectural Digest on the design of her home, Duff explains: 'We have found this really nice balance. I care a lot about interior design, and I do like to invest in furniture – but furniture that I feel like I’m going to love and reuse in many different ways.'

Also pictured in this corner of Duff’s home is the addition of softer furnishings and decorative items, namely an orange and cream long pile rug and a selection of handcrafted-inspired ceramics.

When centering a room around heavy, vintage-inspired furniture that can demand a lot of attention, making sure to offset the space with softer, lighter furnishings prevents the room from feeling too harsh and ensures a cozy factor remains. Injecting an element of warm-toned color through these decorative pieces is also a cost-effective way of adding instant depth and personality.

Shop Hilary's look

To help you recreate the look in your own home, we’ve rounded up some key vintage-inspired statement furniture and decorative items guaranteed to add instant character to your home.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>1

West Elm Stacked Shag Rug

Handcrafted wool and cotton rug with colour-block pattern in neutral tones

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.16%';>2

Anthropologie Quincy Media Console

Mid-century inspired wooden media console with understated brass hardware

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.12%';>3

OKA Papavera Vase

Sculptural vase with a distressed finish, available in three different sizes

Hilary Duff may be an award-winning actress and singer, but like everybody, she uses ordinary kitchen appliances every day.

The figure, who is best known for playing the title character of the television series Lizzie McGuire and The Lizzie McGuire Movie, shared a rare glimpse into her kitchen habits by responding to her husband, Matthew Koma, on her Instagram. In the story (pictured below), the actress reacts to Matthew, who shared that Hilary left a single hotdog on the counter to marinate overnight.

While we are inevitably interested in the couple's countertop (and beautiful gold door handles), we admit that Hilary's choice of toaster steals the show.

The appliance in question is a cream Smeg – one of the best toasters on the market – and one that will look as good in your kitchen as it does in hers.

(Image credit: Hilary Duff / @hilaryduff)

The cream Smeg toaster, as seen in Hilary Duff's kitchen, is a retro-style appliance suitable for two slices. The actress's choice of color is fitting alongside her white marble kitchen countertop ideas and black and white tiled wall, seen behind the appliance.

With its versatile good looks, it's easy to see why Hilary Duff uses this appliance in her home, but if you're thinking of investing, you will agree that its functionality is just as important.

In our Smeg 4 slice toaster review, we put an almost-identical appliance to the test, and sure enough, it did not disappoint. Gaining 4 out of 5 stars, our reviewer loved the toaster's high-quality design that is created to stand the test of time. Plus, you can choose from a wide selection of different tones if Hilary's color ideas would not work in your kitchen.

(Image credit: GettyImages )

If you're looking for the best kettle to accompany your toaster, you can do far worse than follow the lead of Hilary's Hollywood counterpart, Reese Witherspoon.

Reese Witherspoon's Smeg kettle is yet another timeless appliance from the Italian powerhouse – boasting the same retro aesthetic as the toaster – and the same A-lister approval.

Smeg retro style toaster in cream – $199.95 on Amazon

Hilary Duff's toaster combines beautiful retro curves with contemporary day power – to create an efficient appliance that will struggle to go out of style.
