'This palette creates a warm and inviting backdrop, particularly suited for living rooms, dining areas, and bedrooms. For 2025, these colors are often mixed with warm neutrals like beige and taupe, creating balance and subtlety.'

She continues, 'Natural materials play a major role in ’70s-inspired interiors. Wood, leather, rattan, and macramé bring organic texture and warmth to spaces, lending a grounded feel. Today’s take often involves sustainably sourced woods and vintage-inspired furniture pieces crafted with natural fibers. Simpson has arranged the top shelves vertically, while the bottom shelves feature horizontal stacks, maintaining some visual interest.

Lichtenstein approves of arranging high, middle, and low shelves slightly differently.

'For the top shelf, I recommend a horizontal stack of large coffee table books with a small sculpture on top., vertically aligned books with a potted plant at one end, and leaning framed artwork against the back of the shelf,' she states. Meanwhile, the middle shelf, often at eye level, can be styled with aesthetics at the forefront.

'I would place vertical books organized by color alongside a few decorative objects such as a vintage clock and a small ceramic vase, in addition to a framed photo placed in front of a row of books,' she recommends.

It's an age-old question: can patterns be mixed and maxed without clashing? If Jessica Simpson's living room is any indication, then the answer is a strong yes.

The actor and singer recently posted a photo of her moody sitting area, featuring a suede, geometric-patterned couch, a fuzzy chair, and a brown, marbled countertop. Somehow, the patterns and textures work with rather than against each other to create a visually pleasing outcome.

'Layering patterns and textures is all about balance,' says Nicole Cullum, the founder of Color Caravan. 'I generally like to use textured fabrics like a boucle, a cotton-linen blend, or performance velvet on larger upholstery pieces like lounge chairs and living room sofas.'

Nicole recommends complementing a chair or sofa with a patterned accent pillow, which has a touch of the upholstery color in the pattern design. 'I love this trick because if I get tired of a pattern, or want to change the look for a different season, I can easily swap out the pillows instead of having to go through the cost and time to reupholster my chairs or sofa.' 

When it comes to layering patterns, Nicole says that playing with scale is key for ensuring nothing clashes.

'If you have a large scale pattern for your chairs, balance it out with a simple velvet colored accent pillow with a pretty trim that picks up some of the color from your larger scale chair pattern,' she says. 'The same goes in reverse. If you have a smaller scale pattern for your chairs, select a pillow that has a single large motif or medallion centered on the front and back of the pillow that compliments the smaller scale chair pattern.'

An easy way to remember scale rules is that large and large, or small and small don't give enough contrast to look sophisticated.

'Avoid putting a small scale pillow pattern on top of a small scale chair or sofa fabric. Because these two patterns are the same or similar size, they’ll blend together, or even clash in a confusing way. This also applied to larger scale patterns. Large goes with small, small goes with large.'

Kitchens are most often associated with a bright, airy ambiance: clean white tiles, cream linens, and perhaps some floral accents. However, these traditional kitchens have met their match with moody, dark paints and marble countertops, which are trending for 2024 (Google Trends has reported a 5,000% increase over the past year for the search term 'Black Kitchen). And, of course, Jessica Simpson is ahead of the trend. 

The singer is the latest ambassador of the dark kitchen aesthetic, and we must say that we are fans. She recently posted a photo of her greenish-black marble kitchen island and charcoal-painted walls on her Instagram page, which contrast extremely well against her silver appliances.

Incorporating dark hues into the kitchen might seem intimidating or conjure a sense of moodiness. Depending on how dark colors are styled, however, can determine the resulting ambiance.

'Dark colors are bold and dramatic,' says  Caesarstone’s Head of Design, Mor Krisher. 'They can have within them so many different nuances, tones, and tactilities that give them different characters. They can be basic or sophisticated, daring or elegant, industrial or classic, traditional or modern.'

According to interior design experts, painted walls are just the beginning of dark incorporations. 

'Black worksurfaces and splashbacks will be paired with other black elements, such as stained or painted cabinetry or lighting for a wow factor and opulent result,' says Laminam’s R&D Director, Claudio Corniola. 'This statement look will come in many forms, including porcelain surfaces, which are easy to clean and care for and won’t lose their lustrous sheen.'

Leaning into black is a big jump, especially for those used to lighter hues. As such, we appreciate darker colors that are infused with shades of blue and green, such as Jessica's walls and countertops. Grayish tones such as slate are also excellent picks for mixing with metallics.

Stained glass windows are typically associated with holy sites and historical buildings; however, Jessica Simpson has proved it's possible to recreate this aura in a domestic setting. The singer, actor, and businesswoman posted a photo set of her red and yellow stained glass window lighting up her dark wood bathroom. It's an unexpected but magnificent accent to the space – and one that's easier to replicate than one may think.

The solution? Window film. This is an easily applicable and customizable window treatment that has similar properties to real stained glass windows. They provide magnificent reflections and colors to a room, so the first step when choosing one is looking at your room's existing scheme.

'A color palette that resonates with your style and uplifts your mood should be the first thing to decide,' says Joanna Baumard, Co-founder of Purlfrost. 'Consider warm tones like yellows, oranges, and reds for a cozy feel, or opt for cool blues and greens to evoke a sense of tranquillity. Vibrant patterns and stained-glass effects can also add visual interest to your space.'

Stained glass and colored windows are a statement way to dress windows without curtains. They will technically look pretty anywhere, but for maximum impact, consider how the light hits certain spaces.

'It's important to identify key windows in your home where the color will have the greatest impact,' Joanna explains. 'Living areas, kitchens, and spaces that lack direct sunlight are ideal candidates for injecting a pop of color.' 

Jessica has brightened up a dark entryway using this method despite the sun not being direct. 'The interaction between the sun's rays and the tinted hues of the window film will create a stunning visual display, especially when using stained glass designs, transforming these dull areas of a home into a beautiful show of art.'

Stained glass, while gorgeous and unique, can be a significant investment. To try out the look without committing to the commission, Joanna recommends window film as a solid alternative.

'Reflective and mirrored window films are also a good option to consider; they can redirect sunlight deeper into your home and create an illusion of increased brightness,' Joanna suggests. 'Allow these films to bounce natural light around the room, creating a clear and open feel while reducing the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours.'

It should shout out to you that ‘I am home’ every time you step through the front door, that you are in your favorite and most comfortable place in the world,' says David Harris, Design Director of global design brand Andrew Martin, 'It should also give your guests an insight into you who you are, and what your house and interior say about you.'

As the entryway is the entry point for guests, Harris recommends putting as much attention into decorating it as one would with their living room or kitchen. It's all about making a good impression.

'Choose colors that set off your favorite piece of art, textiles, photographs, or whatever you wish to adorn your walls with,' he says. 'Color blocks are great and very popular and add real interest to a space. Entryways are the busiest thoroughfare of your house; it needs to be practical and stand the test of time.' 

Jessica's choice to use a dark wallpaper is strategic, explains David, as it can make small spaces feel bigger.

'Dark colors under the dado rail with fresh white woodwork and light colors above work really well to hide any scuffs and marks. It adds lots of light to what can be narrow spaces this way. Painted paneling and built-in cupboards to store away unwanted bags and coats are a great addition, and when painted in a durable satin finish, they add a really smart edge to the space. Entryways project the first impression of your interior, so give it some love.'

Jessica Simpson is the latest figure to unveil her Christmas decorations, and in true celebrity style, they're impressive. 

The singer shared her two-story tree, dressed in abundant silver and white ornaments, with the world – and of course, her display is something to note. However, we admit, despite the festivities, we were slightly distracted by her backdrop – or, more specifically, her two-toned painting technique – that makes a powerful statement beside her staircase. 

Jessica has experimented with both a dark navy blue (on the bottom half of her wall) and a rich turquoise (on the top) to create an illusionary effect that's hard not to admire. This bold entryway paint trick is somewhat visible in all her photos but is best seen in the third image of her photo carousel below.

Jessica's two-toned technique demonstrates perfect symmetry and a color scheme that complements her space – the latter of which is particularly important for allowing this technique to work successfully. This paint trick can be risky, but when done correctly, it pays off. Vancouver-based designer Keely Smith agrees. 

'I've been working as an interior designer for over ten years now, so two-toned walls are something I've had experience with on past projects,' Keely notes.

'They're a great way to add some visual pop to a space. Rather than a plain, fully-painted wall, contrasting the top and bottom sections with different colors makes the space more engaging and dynamic. This technique also allows you to experiment with color combinations without fully committing to them. If you're unsure about a color or want flexibility later on – a half-painted wall is a lower commitment option.'

It's perhaps no surprise that Jessica Simpson's home showcases an array of architectural assets, including spiral stairs and large window panes that stretch from the wooden floor to the ceiling. Keely explains that her two-toned painting allows Jessica to accentuate her home's architectural features  – but it's possible in every property, whatever characteristics we're working with.

'Two-toned walls are great for emphasizing architectural features too. Painting above and below a chair rail or window can draw the eye to focal points like high ceilings or unique molding. This is an easy way to make a statement.' she says. In small entryways, this trick has the power to 'manipulate' the space. 

'Using a darker shade on the lower half can create the illusion of more height in a room and make it feel larger than it is,' she explains.

Lastly, from a maintenance perspective, half-painted walls are also beneficial. 

'They require less paint compared to a fully covered wall. And because only a portion is the contrasting hue, the overall wall is easier to clean if scuffs or marks occur over time,' Keely says.

'Some of my favorite combinations include cream and turquoise, which creates a fresh modern look, crisp gray and white for powder rooms, or darker pink below with light off-white above to disguise wear and fingerprints in high-traffic areas.'
