'Most beekeepers look for frames that are mostly sealed and will often use a refractometer to check water content which ideally should be under 18%. Harvest too early and the honey may spoil; too late and the bees may have consumed it themselves.

When it comes to the harvesting process, Diane explains that simply using a knife can be sufficient enough to get honey out of your combs.

'You don’t need to be a commercial beekeeper with a dedicated honey room to harvest,' she says. 'At its simplest, honey can be harvested using a “crush-and-strain” method by cutting combs from the frame with a sharp knife, mashing them into a large metal sieve over a large plastic honey bucket with a tap and letting gravity do the rest. This method is low-tech and inexpensive, though not the most efficient.'

With that being said, she proposed a more popular approach: 'More often, beekeepers use an extractor which is a drum-shaped device that spins the frames and flings honey to the sides, allowing it to drain through sieves into settling buckets. You’ll need some essential kit: an extractor (manual or electric), an uncapping tray and knife, food-grade buckets, sieves and clean jars. Everything must be food-safe and meticulously clean.'

'In all my years as a realtor and interior designer, I’ve never had someone walk into a white kitchen and say it’s not their style. Another time, the client chose a mix of warm wooden stools and a polished concrete island – each material added depth and a sense of connection to the room.'

'I’ve seen brushed nickel pulls work wonders in some kitchens while others come alive with darker, more dramatic finishes,' Fitzgerald says. 'These small details shift the feel of the entire space without ever making it feel cluttered or overdone. You can opt for oversized handles in a hammered brass finish, and that single choice will bring so much warmth and character into what could’ve been a very simple design.' The Kanban organizing method

Originally developed for Toyota Automotive, the Kanban method is a visual task organizing system that breaks tasks up into three different categories – to do, in progress and completed. Tasks then move between these stages as you work on them, giving you a clear overview of your progress, as well as what still needs to be done.

Ben Soreff, professional organizer at House2Home Organizing explains, 'The word Kanban means visual or sign card. While it began to aid car manufacturing it has been adapted by many businesses and home tasks.

'At the end of the day, it is designed to boost productivity by limiting your time on a task.'

How does the Kanban organizing technique work?

So, how does this home organizing idea work?

Meghan Kessman, professional home organizer at Meghan Kessman Home Organization says, 'Create a board (physical or digital) with the three categories. As you start a task, move it from to do to in progress, then to completed when done.

'Visually tracking progress keeps everything organized and feels satisfying,' so it's a great way to fall in love with organizing, too, as you can focus on more than one task at a time.

Kessman continues, 'It prevents a scattered feeling when juggling too much, and its visual nature makes it hard to ignore tasks, while completing tasks feels rewarding.'

How to use the Kanban organizing technique at home

To use this technique at home, you can purchase a specific Kanban board, such as the PATboard Scrum Board and Kanban Board available at Amazon, or just use a corkboard, such as the U Brands 17 x 23 in. Cork Bulletin Board available at Walmart and post-it notes, or paper. You can also just stick your post-it notes directly onto your wall.

Then, create the three columns, and create a list of everything you want to get one in the to do column – this can be anything at all around the home, although organizing expert Soreff recommends that this technique works best with smaller tasks, such as laundry, cleaning or meal prep.

He says, 'Kanban home organization uses center more on chores and may not be super helpful for organizing big projects like a garage for instance.'

Then, to make your to-do list less overwhelming, you can assign tasks to family members, as Kessman recommends, and move the task cards along the board as they are completed. This offers a sense of achievement and motivation, and is one of the things the most organized families have in common.

Importantly, however, Soreff warns that the challenge to do with any visual to-do list is the upkeep. He says, 'You have to keep it clutter free and actually move the post-it around. You also have to not cover up the board,' so keep this in mind and set it up in a high-traffic area of the home, such as a kitchen or utility room.

In the short trailer, originally released on Instagram, Markle offers a glimpse of her home, starting with the farmhouse kitchen before moving to the expansive front porch area. In true California style, the space celebrates indoor/outdoor living with an uncomplicated, natural color palette and a wide door that opens to the stone porch area.

'Porches painted in white and adorned with black doors have endured the test of time, becoming evergreen in their appeal,' comments designer Artem Kropovinsky. 

'Their charm lies in their simplistic elegance and versatility in styling. The white paint has a luminary effect, illuminating the porch, thereby creating an inviting aura. In contrast, the black door stands out, its appeal magnified by different types of hardware and accent pieces.' 

The benefits of a neutral color scheme need no long introduction, and their power (in every room) is rarely debated. However, no space showcases their beauty quite as well as our porches and entrance spaces – where making the right first impression counts.

'Combining a white-painted entrance area with a black door has several benefits, starting with its everlasting aesthetic. This classic combination is always in vogue, transcending fleeting design trends,' Kropovinsky comments.

As hinted, the Sussex' kept their styling to a minimum, with only a pendant lantern to note. However, this uncomplicated look pairs perfectly with their subtle design choices and, again, allows the home's architecture to do most of the talking.

It's been less than 24 hours, but Meghan Markle's new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, is already one of the most talked-about launches of the year. The Duchess of Sussex returned to Instagram after a four-year hiatus to tease its launch with nine Instagram posts that, combined, show the brand's gilded logo and crest and a video via her Instagram story. It was via the latter that we caught a glimpse inside her muted Montecito kitchen.

The farmhouse kitchen (seen in the trailer, originally posted to Instagram below) is a celebration of raw, rustic materials, including exposed brickwork and a wooden table/ island where the Duchess is filmed cooking. The look pays tribute to the wider residence that's known to exhibit a similar rustic aesthetic throughout, but we can recreate its style far beyond the Golden State. 

'Farmhouse-style kitchens are designed with a focus on comfort, traditionalism, and tactility, making this design an appealing choice for those wanting to create an inviting sanctuary,' comments Tom Howley, the creative design director at his eponymous kitchen company. 

The Sussexes introduced wood through their kitchen island table, but Tom encourages us to continue using this material in abundance. 

'Natural wood is an integral part of farmhouse kitchens, as it adds a sense of warmth and tactility. You can incorporate wood in the form of flooring, stand-alone furniture such as a farmhouse table, shelving, chopping boards, or integrated wooden trays to break up painted cabinetry,' he says. 

Similarly, while their cabinets are out of shot, Howley recommends installing traditional shaker kitchen cabinetry to complete the look. 

'Traditional shaker-style cabinetry is perfect for creating a welcoming, lived-in look. The shaker style has universal appeal, with beautifully balanced proportions that focus on scale, symmetry, and simplicity.'

'This trend is evocative of the most breath-taking view – used to restore equilibrium with organic naturalness. This is the new Mediterranean aesthetic with a color palette of earthy, sandy neutrals and ethereal blues to echo the natural landscape of the sand and sky.'

The calming blue-striped furnishing is, therefore, a fitting choice for the couple, who were filmed discussing the impact of cyberbullying. The video shows them contacting some of the 26 projects who received funding from the fund while raising awareness of bullying online. Meghan praised the 'enormous impact' that the charity could make on tackling the harmful aspects of social media and misinformation.

'The color is easy to clean because you can see the debris and splatter, which prompts you to clean them more frequently than if they were darker,' she adds.

Lastly, aesthetics and maintenance aside, Eilla explains that a white kitchen, just like Meghan's, can help when selling our house, too. 

'When building a custom modern home, many clients want to ensure it will have resale value down the line. Having a white kitchen scheme is a great way to ensure you create a timeless space that will stand the test of time against current design trends that are constantly changing.'

Prince Harry is reportedly 'pushing hard to go down the private island route' in the next unexpected twist to the Sussex's property portfolio. 

Following their recent 'eviction' from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, England, the subject of where Meghan and Harry will reside beyond their main Montecito home has come into play. Some say King Charles may offer the couple a private apartment in Buckingham Palace – but a recent report suggests they are more interested in a private island all their own. 

A source, speaking to Heat magazine in the UK, said that Harry is 'pushing hard to go down the private island route' as he 'loved the idea of living in a natural and eco-friendly environment,' The Mirror, a British news publication, reports. Heat's source adds that Harry and Meghan's new home won't serve as a vacation getaway but as their main home as they look to relocate entirely. 

'The situation is rapidly becoming uncomfortable to the point of untenable,' the source says. 'There are talks of keeping base in LA and heading somewhere new like Canada, South Africa, or one of the other countries where they have more popularity and public sympathy.'

The couple resides in a $14.7 million mansion in Montecito, California – their first permanent home since stepping down as royals. In an interview with The Cut, Meghan shared they did 'everything we could to get this house' because of its therapeutic and joyous qualities. 

'You walk in and go… Joy. And exhale. And calm. It's healing. You feel free,' she says. However, as the 'situation' evolves, the couple may be looking to relocate to a more private residence.

Meghan and Harry may be the first royals to relocate to a private island, but it's not their first time trying island life. The couple visited Kaibu Island – a 13.9-mile-long island off the coast of Fiji, during a royal tour in 2018, where they stayed on the island’s Vatuvara resort (a solar-powered retreat only accessible by private plane).

The source adds that the distraction of an expanding property portfolio is welcome among the couple, who view it as a 'chance to reap the benefits of their success, rather than escaping from their troubles,' The Mirror reports.

Buckingham Palace is arguably the most recognized 'royal residence' globally – but the areas that actually serve as homes are far less familiar to the outside world. 

Though the palace, located in central London, is considered a royal residence, much of the landmark property consists of official State Apartments that serve as meeting spaces for foreign dignitaries, royals, and celebrities alike. These rooms are also open to the public for selected dates during winter and spring and ten weeks each summer. 

The palace's Private Apartments are, however, much less explored – and they may soon serve as the UK base for Meghan and Harry, who were 'evicted' from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. 

According to The Mail on Sunday, King Charles requested the couple leave their former home and is said to have offered the property to his brother, Andrew, the Duke of York. However, reports say that the monarch has offered Meghan and Harry an 'olive branch' in the shape of an apartment in Buckingham Palace. 

'His Majesty is furious [with Harry], as is [Prince] William. But the King is not a bad man. He has no wish to see his brother Andrew homeless or penniless. Nor does he wish to deprive the Sussexes of a base in the UK,' the source told The Mail. It is reported that the King coincidentally offered Frogmore to Prince Andrew, where he may move after 20 years in the 30-room Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor.

'London is a better fit,' the source adds. 'The Sussexes have always wanted rooms at Buckingham Palace. They could have Andrew’s old rooms there, which are currently being vacated.' Here's what else we know about the secret royal homes. 

Buckingham Palace's Private Apartments – what you need to know

Located at the rear right of the palace, the private apartments run along the northwest flank of the building – and a small section faces the rear of Buckingham Palace Gardens. 

A floorplan designed by Screen Therapy shows the series of rooms that stretch from the Mall to the gardens – including the Queen’s Audience Room (located on the ground floor) that exhibits floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lawn. 

The Private Apartments make up at least 25 of the 775 rooms in the palace – however, while this is considered a 'small' percentage in terms of the entire building, it is likely to offer ample space for Harry, Meghan, and their two children Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor. 

Images from inside the home are unsurprisingly sparse; however, there are some exceptions. This includes a photo of the Queen’s Audience Room (pictured below) that offers a glimpse into the private part of the palace. 

This room, designed by John Fowler, exhibits polished dark wood floors and white contrast moldings that create a contrast against the floor. There is a selection of ornate antique furnishings including a cream armchair and a gold-fringed mirror above the fireplace.

Alongside the communal spaces and rooms for staff, the private apartment has Monarch’s Suite, Consort’s Suite, and The Morning Room – where the late Queen and Prince Philip reportedly had breakfast when they stayed in Buckingham Palace. 

There are no official images of this space; however, a journalist for The Mirror shared a photo (seen here) following a period as an undercover footman who was employed by the palace in 2003. 

Where are the private apartments in Buckingham Palace?

The private living spaces are located at the rear right of the building – spanning from The Mall to the Queen’s Audience Room that overlooks Buckingham Palace's lawn.

In a dramatic shake-up of the royal properties, the palace has revealed that Harry and Meghan have been requested to vacate their English home, Frogmore Cottage, as King Charles III begins his revaluation of the royal residences. 

With his ascension to the throne, the king became the landlord of several royal residences up and down the UK and, after deciding against moving to Buckingham Palace he is continuing to change up the royal rota – with Prince Andrew rumored to be the next resident of Frogmore, according to royal correspondents in England.  

As Harry and Meghan continue to sever ties with the UK after Harry’s controversial tell-all book, we take a look at the couples' remaining residences.

Harry and Meghan asked to leave Frogmore cottage  

Despite having stated that Frogmore cottage would remain their base for visits to family in the UK, the contentious couple has been asked to relinquish the keys to the property in a move that royal experts claim could be the final straw in breaking ties between the two families.

Having stepped down as serving royals in 2020, the couple has been living in various states across the US with the cottage loaned to Harry’s cousin Eugenie and her husband in time for their first child's arrival – so it is safe to say that they will not be rushing to move much furniture out of the home in the next few weeks despite having paid for the renovations themselves in full after stepping down from the royal front-line.

Having requested a Windsor suite before being ‘downgraded’ to Frogmore cottage, it is likely to be seen as another slight towards the couple and a final driver in the rift between father and son.

Harry and Meghan's property portfolio 

So where will the couple live now that Frogmore may be out of reach? Luckily for the pair and their two children, they have resided in several private luxury homes over the last three years that would leave even a royal jealous. 

The Cotswold farmhouse

Signed as a two-year rental, a quiet Cotswold farmhouse was the first property the couple signed on together just before their $45 million wedding in 2018. 

The Grade II-listed home is situated on the same 4,000-acre estate as the Beckham’s Cotswold estate in Great Tew. The three-bedroom cottage is complete with a lavish barn-conversion guest house that has been host to the couple's celebrity friends such as Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, and George and Amal Clooney. The main home boasts a large dining room and outdoor heated patio – perfect for hosting, and three luxury bedrooms with the fourth transformed into a splendid dressing room and walk-in closet.

The couple had to leave their idyllic home in Oxfordshire after paparazzi located the property, Harry shared in the Netflix documentary. Given the home’s important role in the couple's early life together and the first months of their son’s Archies life, the move must not have been an easy one. Their departure from the home marked their last full-time residence within the UK.

Vancouver Island

Following their departure from the UK, Harry and Meghan Markle moved to Canada to Vancouver Island. Thought to afford the couple some privacy, the waterfront property was a part of the couple's plan to step back from the limelight and has been the center of controversy for the last year after it was revealed to be owned by a Russian Oligarch. 

Far grander than their comparatively modest English cottage, the main house (affectionately called Millie Fleurs) sported eight bathrooms, five bedrooms, and a smaller three-bedroom guest house. Other highlights are thought to be a double-height living room, pizza oven, and wine-tasting space. The spot became a space for the couple to raise Archie with gated security.

The five-bedroom home became more of an extended holiday spot for the couple after they were forced to leave by invasive paparazzi and fears surrounding security once again in 2020.

Harry and Meghan's California home

The LA rental became a hide-out for the couple in 2020 after leaving Canada and losing the security afforded to full-time working royals. The home, owned by actor Tyler Perry, was loaned to the couple alongside a security detail, Meghan revealed in the explosive 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. The space ‘gave [the couple] breathing room to try and figure out what [they] were going to do’, Meghan Markel revealed.

Located in the gated Beverly Ridge Estates, the home was featured in the couple's Netflix documentary. The star of the show is the roman bath-style bathroom, a grand take on spa bathroom trends. 

The home also boasts impressive views across Franklin Canyon Park, however, the couple installed tall privacy screens at the beginning of the pandemic to protect their son from paparazzi on the nearby hiking trail. While Meghan Markle formerly owned an LA house before meeting Harry, it is thought that the Hollywood glamor did not sit right with the prince, ushering the pair and their child along to their next, and as of present, final property.  

The Montecito estate

The Montecito estate has been the longest residence of the couple, after moving there in late 2020. The building is a ‘humble cottage’ in comparison to other properties in the area – all of which are among some of the world’s best homes, owned by celebrities along the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Ariana Grande, and Oprah Winfrey’s historic home. 

The home was seen throughout the Netflix documentary, with impressive glimpses into Meghan Markels calming neutral home office and personal glances into the birth of her second child, Lilibet – named after the late queen before her death.

Homeowners Ari and Linda Lichtenberg consistently host large parties and family events and cook for Shabbat every Friday. It was essential to design a kitchen where Linda was able to prepare meals while still being able to entertain and interact with her guests, and have all her platters easily accessible.

The 500 square foot remodel and addition was achieved by relocating a former maid’s bedroom and bathroom in order to double the size of their previous kitchen. The new kitchen includes a large kitchen, dish pantry, food pantry, coffee center and banquette seating.

'I love that the design of this kitchen fits with the existing architecture of this 1930s Beverly Hills home,' says Hub of the House Studio’s Karen Harautuneian.

Harautuneian previously worked with the couple in the early 2000s when their children were living at home. This time, the task was to design Linda’s dream 'forever' kitchen – one Betty Crocker would be proud to cook in.

But it is the generous butler’s pantry that's the star of the show. It houses dishes, platters, serving pieces, and linens. Pantry storage ideas include base cabinetry and open shelving that shows off pantry staples. The tiled backdrop is on full view through a windowed pocket door and wall.

The tilework was crafted from hand painted tiles (made in LA) that are based upon Monet's Giverny home. Hub of the House Studio developed the custom color specifically for this project.

Beyond the food butler's pantry is a new food pantry opposite the kitchen island is perfectly organized and offers plenty of kitchen storage. 

A 6-foot baby blue Lacanche French range is a true showpiece and has three integrated ovens.

Built in banquette seating (below) is perfect for breakfast. Linda consulted with her friend and interior designer Ames Ingham to select the perfect accents such as chairs, pillows and lighting.

'I love that if you were to look at each individual finish, they are rather simple (white oak, brass, white cabinets), however the layering of these finishes is what elevates this kitchen. Simple layering is our signature style. Sometimes the simplest look is the most complex to achieve,' says Harautuneian.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decorated their first home with lamps from IKEA and second-hand furniture – Harry's new book reveals. 

The anticipated memoir, Spare, is due for official release tomorrow, January 10th, but it has already made headlines in recent days. Early copies – accidentally sold in Spain last week before they were pulled from the shelves – shared a preview of the life of the couple, who resigned as working royals to raise their family in Montecito, California. 

A section explores the differences in royal residences – most specifically between Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace (where his brother and Catherine, now the Prince and Princess of Wales, lived) and Nottingham Cottage, where Harry and Meghan moved after their marriage in May 2018. 

In June of that year, Prince Harry claimed to have visited Prince William and Princess Catherine's apartment with Meghan to make peace after some disagreements. However, after the meeting, Harry writes that his sibling's newly-renovated apartment left him and Meghan feeling 'embarrassed' by their 'cozy' home.

In an extract acquired by the Daily Mail, Harry writes: 'We congratulated them on the renovation without holding back the compliments while feeling embarrassed of our IKEA lamps and the second-hand sofa we'd recently bought on sale with Meg's credit card on sofa.com.'

In contrast, Harry hints that Prince William's home was a trove of more luxurious decorating ideas. 'The wallpaper, the ceiling trim, the walnut bookshelves filled with volumes of peaceful colors, priceless works of art. Magnificent. Like a museum,' he says. It is not known which IKEA model the couple chose; however, the retailer has a series of iconic products – with the HEKTAR floor lamp and TORARED shade among their top-sellers. 

Despite being known as an 'apartment,' the Prince and Princess of Wales' London base is the size of a large house – covering four stories, with 20 rooms in total. Prince William and Catherine have since moved to Adelaide Cottage, a significantly smaller home in Windsor.

What is Nottingham Cottage?

The property was designed by acclaimed English architect Sir Christopher Wren, who also created St. Paul's Cathedral in London in the 17th century, following the Great Fire of London. Its name derives from Nottingham House, the residence of the Earl of Nottingham. Meghan and Harry lived there before moving to Frogmore Cottage in April 2019, ahead of the birth of their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.

There is a lot to admire about this living room – perhaps the most beautiful space in the home – from its cream marble floor to the soaring wooden ceilings that create a contrast against the otherwise neutral-toned room.

It is inevitable that I would watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new docuseries for interiors inspiration from their Montecito estate – it's more or less written into my job description, after all – but reports suggest the backdrop seen in the Netflix series isn't actually their family home.

Little is known about the couple's Californian royal residence (aside from the odd glimpse and leaked detail, such as Meghan Markle's favorite candle and Archie's chicken coop). And, it seems that its interiors will remain a mystery. According to British newspaper Mail on Sunday, the backdrop in the Harry and Megan documentary (previewed below) is a $33 million mansion located approximately 9 minutes drive from the Sussex's $14 million estate. 

While you would be forgiven for believing the 13,599-square-foot property belonged to the couple, it is not the case. Instead, its former owner was Mark Schulhof, an eco-activist, and CEO of Quadriga Arts. The Mail speaks of Mark's 'disgraced' past after he was charged with pocketing $116 million in a 'fundraising scam that targeted disabled veterans.'

Meghan and Harry's home recently made headlines after a royal biographer Tina Brown labeled the home a 'humble cottage' compared to the homes owned by their neighbors. The filming location, however, is one of the world's best homes, complete with a large lawn, pool, private cinema and spa, and luxe 24 ft-high ceilings, to name a few of its unique assets. 

The home's listing speaks of the 'vast ocean views, flat grounds, luxe amenities, and incredible design coalescing' at the impressive estate. 'With an address that embodies good fortune and prosperity, [the home] was exquisitely executed to embody the California Dream at its finest,' it says. 

The Montecito mansion is much larger than Meghan and Harry's boasting 16 bathrooms rather than the six bathrooms the Sussexes have.

Meghan and Harry never claimed the house in the Netflix show was theirs, but the Mail reports that the property has gained much attention since its reveal in the series. A Hollywood producer shared that it was 'a little tone-deaf' to film in such an opulent environment 'when there is so much suffering in the real world’, though arguably the Sussexes will have been keen to kept their own home private.

The first episode of the series aired on December 8th, but more are available from this Thursday, December 15. Not much is known about the filming location of the next installment, but we'll be waiting for a glimpse into the couple's permanent home. 

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shared the trailer for their upcoming Netflix documentary, but one home accessory has dominated the conversation since its release. 

According to Google data, searches for 'Hermès blanket,' similar to the one spotted in their Montecito home, have surged; and as the first episode airs tomorrow, December 8th – we don't expect the interest to slow anytime soon.

The six-part series, named Harry & Meghan, promises to share 'the other side' of the couple's story since they left the UK in 2020. Before moving to California, the couple lived in Frogmore Cottage, Windsor, and were active members of the British royal family. 

In the trailer, Prince Harry is heard saying there were stories 'planted' against Meghan before it cuts to footage of an emotional Meghan sitting in a large cream chair. More of the couple's home decor ideas are visible, from the white marble table that stands next to the chair – including a stack of books to a small white orchid in a pot. 

Following the preview's release, Women's Wear Daily reported a 500 percent Google search increase for the term 'Hermès blanket'. Meanwhile, there was an 850 percent increase for 'Hermès blanket price'.

The Avalon's geometric design was influenced by the classic stable blankets used to cover horses – a fitting nod to the Hermès horse that is seen on the company's logo. The luxury French brand also shares the same initial as Harry, meaning the 'H' could have a joint meaning in the Montecito royal residence. 

The blanket is one of many in the Avalon series that comes in multiple colorways, including camel and marine blue. Most recently, the Parisian company released a new design named Avalon III that is available this season in a 'combination of contrasting bleu cyan and rouge coquelicot'.

We're not fans of design dupes, but it won't surprise you that this iconic blanket has spawned a colossal collection of copies, from everywhere from Etsy to Walmart.

Netflix released the first volume of Harry and Meghan tomorrow, on December the 8th. The second part will air shortly after on December 15th. 

Meghan Markle is no stranger to trendsetting – from the clothes hanging in her closet to the chicken coop in her garden. It is natural, therefore, that a recent glimpse into her Montecito home sparked a whole new conversation in the interiors industry.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently made headlines after formally posing together for a TIME magazine cover shoot. 

The historical image that graced the cover commemorated the couple's place amongst the world's 100 most influential people – an honor that offered a glimpse behind (arguably) the most famous couple of the moment. However, while there is a lot to learn about the lives of Meghan and Harry, we were distracted by the exterior of their Montecito estate (famously one of the world's best homes) and what it means to the family.

Much like the couple's decorating ideas, little is –or was – known about their Montecito garden. However, the new images offer an insight into their tranquil garden and their Californian way of life. 

In the photograph, Meghan and Harry are captured wandering through a section of their 7.38-acre garden that surrounds their mansion – the only royal residence in Montecito. The calming, healing gardens are beautifully landscaped but encourage rewilding through the abundant trees that frame the couple in the image. 

A palm tree, which is one of the reasons why Meghan and Harry love the home, sits out of shot. 'One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees. See how they're connected at the bottom? He goes, 'My love, it's us,' Meghan shared with The Cut. 

In her interview, the Duchess shared that they had only toured the grounds when they told the real estate agent that they had to get the home – even before they saw the inside. We did everything we could to get this house... It's healing. You feel free.'

Despite the therapeutic qualities of the garden – and the property as a whole – there are rumors circulating that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are selling their Montecito home. However, it is clear that this garden is unique to the couple – who have designed the space with their children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor, in mind. 

Following the Oprah interview, the couple sparked a chicken coop trend after sharing the coop (known as Archie's Chick Inn), full of hens that they had rescued from a local farm. Alongside the coop and the palm tree, the home has a pool house and swimming pool that is surrounded by verdant greenery.

And according to the original real estate listing (acquired by Hello), the garden is perfect for Archie and Lilibet as there is a huge adventure playground on the estate.. 

While Windsor castle is often open to the public, it can be difficult to get in to see the astounding architecture. The chance to see inside Windsor Castle is a thrilling opportunity to get a glimpse into the long history of one of the world's most famous families.

Windsor Castle is one of the most famous royal residences in the Royal Collection Trust, with the castle being the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Founded in the eleventh century, Windsor castle is easily one of the world's best homes, and has been the home of over 40 monarchs and will be the new residence of Prince William and Princess Kate of Wales in the coming year. 

Here, we go inside Windsor castle to take a look at some of the impressive state rooms where the royals perform their state duties and relax away from the public eye. 

Inside Windsor Castle

The castle contains two types of apartments; the State apartments and the private residences, such as the suite Harry and Meghan requested and the rooms William and Kate will relocate to with their children. While it is rare to see inside the private residences, with only one single glimpse of the queen's private sitting room offered through a video call during the pandemic, the historical halls are really what makes the castle special. 

Fittingly for royalty, the walls of the castle look almost as if they have been taken from the pages of a fairytale. Intricate gold leaf and sculpted plaster decorate the walls and ceiling ideas throughout the castle, a clear sign of its astounding opulence and long history. 

The castles lighting ideas are no less impressive, of course, with numerous chandeliers hanging in hallways and ballrooms. 

The State Apartments were designed during the right of King Charles II and, while originally used for state officials and dignitaries, this section is now readily open to the public. 

The Grand Vestibule, found in the Upper Ward of the castle, is stuffed with ornate decorating ideas. The space marks the entrance to the rest of the state apartments and offers a masterclass in decorating with art with pieces selected from the royal's private collections used to adorn the space.

Some of the most notable inclusions are a selection of Prince Albert's most beloved Rubens. The Crown Prince was so enamored by the artist that one room in the castle, dedicated exclusively to the artist was affectionately renamed 'the Ruben room'.

The plaster fan ceiling of the Vestibule is one to shock and delight. Designed for King Charles II by Francis Bernasconi, the plasterwork is adorned with images of angels and foliage and is bound to be a source of audacious inspiration for commissioning decorative plasterwork. 

Bedroom ideas are nothing short of daring in the castle, with brilliant red room ideas found in the so-called King's Bed Chamber. The chamber itself showcases fantastical red damask paper which immediately speaks to the historical affluence of the Castle.

The bed itself is nothing short of show-stopping, with the frame crafted by French woodworker Georges Jacob in 1855. The bed was created first for a visit by Emperor Napoleon III and his wife, with their initials visible on the fabric of the footboard. 

The bedroom is not purely historical, however, with the marble chimneypiece originating from Buckingham House.

The Green Drawing Room can be found in the Castle's semi-state apartments but is closed to the public due to the fragile nature of the carpet and furniture after a fire in 1992.

The Green Drawing Room features some of the most spectacular carpet ideas in the Castle, with the beautiful Axminster carpet dating back to the Great Exhibition of 1851. It is one of the best-preserved examples of English manufacturing of the time and was installed during the reign of Queen Victoria. 

Easily one of the most historic rooms inside Windsor Castle is The Garter Throne Room – having played host to centuries of monarchs, knights, and ladies of the Order of the Garter.

This room has become infamous for its drapery and curtain ideas, with the large Guiltwood canopy framed with luxurious velvet hangings. The throne itself is another relatively new addition to the castle, having been made in 1953 for the late Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation. Accompanying is a large state portrait, painted by James Gunn, depicting the late monarch in her coronation robes. 

While it is typically the state dining room at Buckingham palace that hosts many of today's formal banquets, the dining room ideas inside Windsor Castle have seen their fair share of important events and figures. 

Originally used by King Charles II, the room once again displays aspirational painting ideas, with the immaculately painted ceiling depicting a banquet of the gods, featuring fruit, fowl, and fish. This incredible artwork is accompanied by wonderful wood-carved wall ideas.

St. Georges Hall is an eccentric 180-foot-long space, designed in a Gothic style with original military weapons and suits of armor displayed on the walls. 

This section of the castle was heavily damaged by the fires, meaning that much of the original 1820s plasterwork and painstakingly handcrafted art was lost. Much of what was destroyed, such as the original plaster ceiling complete with painted knights' shields and plaster beams, was delicately recreated to restore the hall to its former glory.

By far one of the largest rooms inside Windsor Castle, the Waterloo Chamber is dedicated to the British victory at the Battle of Waterloo (hence the name). 

The room's most stunning features include the elaborate wall paneling ideas and enclosed ceiling, designed to emulate the inside timbers of a great ship.

The carpets in the space are also nothing less than impressive, having been made to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The Indian carpet is said to be the largest seamless carpet in the world but it has not been without its issues. In 1992 when the fire destroyed vast swathes of the castle, it took over 50 soldiers to roll the immense floor covering to be moved to safety during the renovations. 

Royal biographer Tina Brown has described Prince Harry and Megan Markle's home as a 'humble cottage' alongside their wealthy Montecito neighbors.

The former Vanity Fair editor was responding to claims that the Sussexes were house-hunting in an area around 10 miles east of their current home – where they have lived since June 2020.

While it is easy to label this property as one of the world's best homes, it pales in comparison to those owned by their wealthy neighbors, for example, Oprah Winfrey's Promised Land estate, worth $100m.

Speaking at the Henley Literary Festival in Oxfordshire, England, Tina Brown shared that: 'it's not very pleasant to be a D-list celebrity who, for them, doesn't have enough money. It's a wholly different game to be with those super-rich people. In Montecito, where they live, their $14 million mansion is a humble cottage compared to what these other people have,' The Telegraph reports.

Meghan and Harry's home may be the only royal residence in Montecito, but their neighbors' properties are the most expensive in California. The most notable properties include Jaz Z and Beyoncé's mansion in Bel Air which costs $88m, and Kylie Jenner's home, worth $36.5m. Rob Lowe, Ariana Grande, and Ellen DeGeneres also call the prestigious district their home.

Tina Brown (who was one of the last people to see Diana, Princess of Wales prior to her death) was responding to the question of whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are selling their Montecito home, following reports that there was a rise in local theft only last week. The couple is supposedly looking for a 'private estate' in an elite neighborhood near their current property.

'At some point, it might be more than a new house she's looking for,' she says, before adding: 'Elon Musk is still single; that's all I have to say.'

According to The Telegraph, the author of The Diana Chronicles and The Palace Papers added that Duke's upcoming tell-all biography may never be published. ' 'If the book continues, I don't think there is any way for Harry to return. So my view has always been that the book won't see the light of day.'

The Sussexes are yet to comment on whether they are leaving Montecito for another home in the Hope Ranch area, but we'll be sure to report on it if they do. In the meantime, you can read up on their life in the US in this book (from Amazon) below.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are rumored to be selling their property in Montecito and looking for a new home in the Hope Ranch area over Santa Barbara. 

Despite owning one of the world's best homes on the Central Coast of California, the couple is reportedly looking to invest in the exclusive gated community around 10 miles east of Montecito, where they moved in June 2020. The potential move comes after an increase in theft around their current neighborhood, the British newspaper The Sun reports. 

The source explains the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department is installing six license plate recognition cameras around celebrity-populated areas in Montecito, similar to where the couple currently resides. 

Meghan and Harry first moved to Montecito – the town between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean – following a small time in Los Angeles when they relocated to the US. This upscale town was an inevitable choice for Meghan, according to Us Weekly, who reported that she had fallen in love with its stunning scenery and architecture as a teen. 

'Moving there was always an option, but to begin with, she and Harry wanted to give Los Angeles a shot,' the report says. 'Unfortunately, Harry hated it – the timing was so wrong amid the pandemic, and they lacked privacy.'

Other celebrities who live in the area include Ariana Grande, Jennifer Aniston, Orlando Bloom, and Ellen DeGeneres, who also owns a Robert Skinner-designed mid-century modern home in Beverly Hills.

Prince Harry's move comes at a similar time as his brother, Prince William, who also moved royal residences recently. 

The Prince and Princess of Wales recently announced they were moving from the prestigious Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Berkshire – near Windsor Castle. Prince William and Catherine moved to the country to allow their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, to attend the co-educational private Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire. However, they are expected to keep Apartment 1A as a base while they are in London. 

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not commented on whether they are selling or their plans to move. However, The Daily Mail cites a report that the couple may already have purchased a property in the Hope Ranch area. We will let you know as soon as we have more information. 

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn't get their first choice of accommodation when they lived in the United Kingdom after their 2018 marriage, a new book released by a royal author claims. After requesting a private suite in Windsor Castle, the couple was gifted Frogmore Cottage instead. 

It is a well-known fact that the royal residences hold great significance to many members of the royal family. The senior royals live in historic homes across the country, with Prince William recently moving into Adelaide Cottage in Windsor close to Windsor Castle with his family as he takes up his new position as the Prince of Wales. 

But The New Royals, written by Katie Nicholl, reveals that Harry and Meghan were not given the residence they initially requested and that the home has been an issue of contention ever since. 

The royal author has revealed that the Duke and Duchess were initially hoping for ‘a suite of apartments at Windsor Castle’, but were denied this by the late Queen Elizabeth II who instead provided the couple with Frogmore Cottage. 

The cottage was seen as a generous gift to the young couple despite the then-newlyweds desire for the Windsor Suites, the book reveals, with the late monarch hoping they would respect her decision. 

The Duke and Duchess retain ownership of the cottage to this day, despite relocating to the United States in 2020 after stepping back as senior royals. The cottage was renovated for the couple shortly after it was gifted to them in 2019, costing £2.4 million and involving months of extensive renovation to turn the original 10 bedroom staff accommodation back into a five-bedroom family home.

Frogmore Cottage sits in the grounds of Frogmore House, a much grander retreat once favored by Queen Victoria.

Situated approximately half a mile away from Windsor Castle it has been a royal home since 1792. The home is now largely open to the public, but, the estate is closed to celebrate royal events such as Harry and Meghan's wedding reception and for hosting grand state events. 

For the late Queen to gift the smaller of the Frogmore properties to the Duke and Duchess was significant, however, according to close sources. ‘The cottage was a big deal,’ the late Queen's cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson told book author Nicholl (according to the Daily Mail). ‘The Queen's entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her backyard, her solitude, and her privacy. She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, “I hope they'll respect it.”‘

The cottage, although not their first choice, held special significance to the couple too, with their engagement photos having been taken in the grounds surrounding the home. 

Windsor Castle has been a royal home for over 900 years and was a firm favorite of the late Queen. The home is not only a working palace and center of many formal royal duties but also a private home where she usually spent her weekends and the Easter period – a tradition expected to be upheld by the new King Charles III. 

The palace is the largest working inhabitable palace in the world, with around 1,000 rooms, so it may be understandable why Harry and Meghan were initially so adamant about converting some of the rooms into a private suite. 

It is thought that the request was denied formally due to the unsuitability of the flat for a growing young family. 

The Duke and Duchess now spend the majority of their time in the US at their family home in sunny California however they spent significant time at Meghan Markle's former Los Angeles house as a single couple.

The Sussexes now reside in a private gated mansion in Montecito, Santa Barbara, with Frogmore Cottage kindly lent to Princess Eugenie and her husband in their absence.

Frogmore Cottage is a ten-bedroom house on the Windsor Estate. Before moving into the property in 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle approved extensive renovations of the historic home. 

The cost was rather staggering, even though the couple mostly paid for fixtures and fittings out of their own pocket. Frogmore Cottage, which had previously been split up into sections for private offices, was returned to a single residence, and major works, including replacing floor joists, ceiling beams and, rewiring the electrical system, and installing new gas and water mains.

The home is also said to have a swimming pool, guest house and tennis court. 

Who is living at Frogmore Cottage?

It is understood at the time that the property remain the Sussexes' residence in the UK, but it is believed that they were delighted to open it up to Eugenie and Jack ahead of their first child's arrival next year.

In February 2022, it was announced that Prince Harry planned to renew the lease on the cottage, which would allow him to remain domiciled in the UK. In May 2022, it was reported that Harry's lease of the property had been renewed, while Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank had moved out of the property to divide their time between London and Portugal.

The history of Frogmore Cottage

Frogmore Cottage was originally known as the Double Garden Cottage when it belonged belonged to Queen Charlotte, back in 1801. According to royal records, the home was built for £450 by a Mr Bowen. Queen Victoria's personal assistant Abdul Karim lived there, in 1897. It was later occupied by Russian royal the Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna, during the 1920s.

Before the name was changed to Frogmore Cottage, Queen Victoria had breakfast there in 1875 and noted the 'immense number of little frogs' which she amusingly described in her diary as 'quite disgusting'.

Simon’s suggestions are aromatic, therapeutic, and entirely beautiful, and we have a feeling they will shape nurseries for the decade to come. 

What flowers could Megan and Harry have in their baby daughter’s nursery?

‘Harry and Meghan have been very vocal in how mental health can really affect us and how there are different ways of dealing with mental health. I would imagine that they would both be very aware of the benefits of flowers, plants, foliage, and greenery within our lives,’ Simon shares. 

‘There might be a potted plant or two. And there could be a bunch of something that’s scented – perhaps lavender which is nice and calming, or rosemary which is a very gentle flower,’ he adds. 

The admired florist continues, also suggesting that Chamomile is ‘beautifully calming,’ and so, would be equally beautiful in that environment. 

‘They also gently fragrant the air, which is lovely for the child to grow up, whilst nurtured with flowers – you grow up and realize some of your first memories are of a vase of flowers in your nursery,’ Simon explains. However, he notes that these blooms should be stored safely out of a small child’s way to ensure they remain safe in the nursery. 

Which flowers would you send Meghan Markle following the birth of her baby? 

As a royal flower expert, it was the question we had to ask Simon. The florist shared that Meghan, like many of us, is an admirer of the flower of the moment – peonies. 

‘She said that peonies make her happy; however, it would depend on when her baby is born. I know it’s due in summer. I would send her something seasonal. Something that is lovely and local, and preferably scented,’ he shares.

If anybody knows about these seasonal flowers, it is Simon – who is currently working in association with British Flowers Week to promote flowers grown across the UK. In discussing his work with the festival, he revealed that he particularly enjoys arranging seasonal blooms, including those that he grows in his garden in London. 

‘The resonance of beautiful, seasonal, British flowers is important to me. In May and June, flower markets are just bursting with beautiful blooms and are very inspiring,’ Simon adds. The florist asks that flower-lovers in the UK also share their beautiful blooms, however small and simple, with him and the team by tagging #BritishFlowersWeek. 

We’ll race you all to the lavender, rosemary, and Chamomile plants. Nursery or no nursery, we suddenly have an urge to bring an abundance of these plants into our lives. 

Despite the majority of Meghan and Harry's historic interview with Oprah Winfrey taking place in their friend's garden, we were still offered a brief insight into the couple's California backyard – complete with a large wooden chicken coop, aptly named Archie's Chick Inn. The chicken coop came with a sign, reading 'Established 2021', before Harry shared how Meghan had 'always wanted chickens,' while standing in the coop.

How much space does a chicken coop need?

Before investing in a chicken coop, it's important to make sure your backyard is large enough for your chickens to live comfortably. Chickens get agitated when they don't have enough space to roam, which in turn causes them to retaliate. In her post, Chris explains that bantams don't need as much space as standard-sized chickens, but they tend to fly higher, meaning 'perches are perfect for them.'

She continues, suggesting standard hens crave more space than bantams, but their perches are better closer to the ground. 

She also urges us to accommodate our local climate, as this can affect the size of the coop. If your garden stays warm all year, you can get away with a smaller coop; however, those in colder locations will need to create more room in the coop, as this is where they will be spending most of their time.

While keeping chickens isn’t the most expensive habit, Chris reminds us to remember the cost commitment that may continue for years to come. The costs are split into four categories: housing, including the coop, accessories, such as food, livestock, and maintenance. The latter involves the hidden ongoing costs of keeping chickens, such as supplements and electricity. You might want to work these out before introducing chickens to your backyard.

We have a slight feeling there's going to be a few more chicken coops alongside Archie's, established in 2021. 

Oprah Winfrey recently purchased Jeff Bridges's Spanish-Revival estate in Montecito for $6.85 million, the same amount Bridges and his wife, Susan Geston, paid for the property in 2014.

After moving from the UK back to the United States, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry bought a house in Montecito – the seaside Santa Barbara County where Tom Cruise has a home, where Oprah Winfrey's house is, and Ellen deGeneres' Montecito rustic home is – to name just a few Hollywood greats.

The Montecito neighborhood is famous for its secluded and private hillside estates. Meghan and Harry's first US house is in the center of the Montecito enclave, and cost around $14.65 million.

Oprah Winfrey’s highly anticipated two-hour interview with Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, aired on CBS on 7 March 2021. In this exclusive interview, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex divulged the reasons for their move to the US.

The two-hour interview conducted by Oprah Winfrey with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aired first on the East Coast on Sunday night before a repeat for the West Coast. It is also available on CBS.com if you sign in with your local cable provider, and Paramount+ for streaming.

Oprah's much-anticipated interview with former royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was viewed by millions. The Oprah interview setting demonstrated how simple it is to create an elegant outdoor space that reflects the rooms inside your home. Rattan outdoor chairs

The interview took place in an outdoor living space with low, rattan furniture with lovely plump cushions. Much more sumptuous than your standard, high-backed garden furniture, these looked stylish and incredibly comfortable.

'By simply adding an outdoor rug, it instantly transforms the area by softening the space and adding texture and comfort underfoot,' interiors expert Lucy says. 

Low outdoor coffee table

This round, wooden coffee table with a concrete surface is practical and stylish, and will blend seamlessly with living room with a grey color scheme. The round edges soften the overall outdoor living look, which naturally has some harsh edges. 'Adding a coffee table rather than a dining height table helps create an informal, relaxing outdoor living room,’ says interiors expert Lucy.

Rustic plant centerpiece

It's all in the finishing touches, and we're loving the simple use of a floral centerpiece. Lucy from My Bespoke Room says that the 'rustic flower arrangement adds a subtle touch of color that helps brings together the entire scene.'

Back in late 2019, the Royal couple announced they were taking time off from senior royal duties in order to spend more time as a family.

Rather than face spotlight in the United Kingdom, at their home of Frogmore Cottage, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex headed to Vancouver Island in Canada, taking their eight-month-old son Archie with them.

Now, news has broken that the couple will be stepping down from their royal duties to spend six months of the year in North America.

The news was posted on their Instagram account, @sussexroyal, with the caption: 'We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.'

Though the statement only states that they are moving to North America, the rumour mill has firmly decided Canada will be their new base.

Meghan Markle is familiar with the destination, having previously spent time there when filming television show Suits. Although they didn’t publicly disclose where, exactly, they stayed on their Christmas visit, it is rumoured that Canadian musician David Foster allowed Harry and Meghan to stay in his waterfront compound in North Saanich.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex successfully negotiated their withdrawal from the royal family earlier this week, and it has already been announced the couple will not use their HRH titles.

More recently, Prince Harry, who is sixth in line to the throne, flew to Vancouver to be reunited with his wife and son.
