Though this won't be possible in every space, it demonstrates what I learned by looking at Miley Cyrus's bathroom: that bathrooms are no longer purely functional. Just like other spaces, they should be endowed with character, warmth, and visual interest.

Styling a chair in your bathroom isn't the only way to transform the space, but it's a great place to start. Thinking about how you can use furniture to integrate texture and contrast into your bathroom is a brilliant method for creating an instantly cozy home.

'As an interior designer who specializes in creating distinctively personal, elegantly relaxed home interiors, my focus lies in layering a space to intrigue the eye and to imbue a feeling of homely calm. Tempted as I may be by beautifully patterned wallpapers in a room, the most successful foundation for a layered scheme is simple, plain walls. The walls might be textured, using grass cloth or paper-backed linen, but only ever in a single color and without a pattern,' comments Charlotte Thomas, the owner of her eponymous studio based in England.

Thomas continues: 'The amount of each pattern and color used in the room is critical. Too much pattern – floral, abstract, geometric, or stripe - and/or too much strong color can be overwhelming. In a room, I aim for just one focal piece, such as an armchair, ottoman, or rug in a more stand-out pattern or color, while the remaining fabric choices are used to balance the scheme, creating an easy, relaxed atmosphere.'

Lastly, the designer reminds us how incorporating textured materials is also key. In a dining room, we can do so through chair covers, table linens, and cushions, but a living space offers even more flexibility,

'Some luxe fabrics like cashmere, mohair, alpaca, and velvet are super soft and feel warm to the touch,' she says.

'Mixing such materials with rougher ones such as organic linen, grasscloth wallpaper or rustic wood as well as cold-to-the-touch elements like glass, ceramic or metal creates an experience that is both interesting to the eye and to the skin.'

For many of us, a new year means a home refresh, and what better way to change things up then with a little color and pattern-drenching?

'Start with your most large-scale or complex pattern, then build out with smaller, simpler designs,' she says. 'Choose combinations of patterns that compliment instead of compete, such as an oversized floral print paired with a simple pinstripe.'

There might not appear to be many similarities between Miley Cyrus, Frank Sinatra, and Netflix's Beef – but they do have one uniting factor – known as Farralone House. 

Designed in 1951 by renowned architect William Pereira (responsible for LAX airport and the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim), Farralone House served as Frank Sinatra's home for ten years following banking heiress Dora Hutchinson. In the decades that followed, the structure has appeared in several productions, including Mad Men, Big Little Lies, Dreamgirls, and, most recently, Netflix's Beef, as a vacation home. 

Located in LA's Chatsworth neighborhood, the distinct structure (one of the world's best homes) exhibits 'the unmistakable style of prolific architect William Pereira,' according to property experts, Sotheby's. 

Alongside Farralone House, the Chicago-born architect 'helped define the 20th century's design aesthetic' with iconic landmarks such as the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco and LAX airport.  

Over 70 years after its construction, the midcentury residence retains its original architectural features – including whitewashed interiors, multiple fireplaces, wooden surfaces, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows (some of which reach heights of 16 feet). 

The 50-foot swimming pool is perhaps the most notable feature – appearing in Beef and Miley's video (the home is visible from 1:01 minutes in the video below). However, Sotheby's says that there is more to the exterior than productions often show. 

Beyond the frequently-filmed terrace, the home features views across 'woodlands, savannah, ponds, streams' – along with access to the Chatsworth Nature Preserve and the surrounding mountains. 

Beyond the mina living spaces, the estate boasts a separate gym and massage room wrapped in glass – a quintessential William Pereira design feature. There is also a guesthouse with its own private yard and pool that reportedly sublet to Marilyn Monroe – making this property even more iconic. 

In August 2021, Farralone House sold 2021 for $21.5 million – in a sale that the Los Angeles Times labeled 'the priciest' of the 70 or so homes that were listed in San Fernando Valley at the time. The report says that the '13-acre estate boasts an illustrious Hollywood history dating back seven decades' and receives around $1 million yearly from the production business.

Miley Cyrus and Netflix may be Farralone House's most recent clients – but if its history is anything to go by – we expect to see this home in another production sometime very soon. 

Miley Cyrus is known for her single Malibu, so it seems only fitting that the singer owns a home in the said Californian city. 

The singer, who is famed for her aptly-name single, along with other songs Wrecking Ball, Angels Like You, and Party in the USA, purchased a Mediterranean-style villa in the Santa Monica mountain city for $7.9 million. The sale comes after she sold her Nashville estate for nearly $15 million in the summer. 

Miley Cyrus is already no stranger to Malibu, however. The Hannah Montana star previously lived in another one of the world's best homes with her ex-husband  Liam Hemsworth. She was also known to live in a Tuscan-style mansion in Toluca Lake with her family in the early noughties. 

This time, however, Dirtreports that the Tennessee-born star is making a new start in a European-style villa that overlooks the ocean.

The property, which was reportedly built in 1999, spans 6,500 square feet across above Malibu's shore. It has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, and one powder room, along with an airy living space that celebrates Spanifornia decorating ideas.

According to tax records acquired from Dirt, the estate previously sold in 2018 for $5.8 million and was leased out before Miley's purchase.

Miley Cyrus's former home in the palm-tree-filled kingdom in Toluca Lake was listed on the market for just under $6 million. Miley, and her family, moved from their Tennessee farm to the Los Angeles mansion in 2007 when the actress starred in the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana.

Following the show, Miley also launched her music career while living in the home before listing it on the market for $5.995 million.

The 8,700 square foot estate, created by esteemed Montecito architect Bob Easton, fits effortlessly into the vibrant  Toluca Lake neighborhood in the golden state. Its curated interiors reflect its effortlessly stylish So-Cal ambiance through its six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, including a master suite with an adjacent walk-in closet and rooftop terrace.

Notable architectural features include a statement curved staircase constructed of wrought iron, and an ornate fireplace, also in the master bedroom. In a nod to its Tuscan influence, Bob designed a stucco-style facade with glamorous arched doors and windows that mirror traditional Italian architecture. 

Meanwhile, downstairs, there is a spacious family room, home theatre, and a chef's kitchen with ogee-edged granite countertops. There is also a music room that was filled with guitars owned by Miley's father, the Country music singer Billy Ray Cyrus.

Beyond its vine-covered walls and red barrel tile roof, the home's exteriors are equally as aesthetic – boasting several outdoor fireplaces that warm the Californian air during al-fresco dinner parties. 

The verdant garden is blessed, perhaps unsurprisingly, with sweeping palm trees, a stunning swimming pool idea, and a custom-built hot tub. 

Miley sold the home for $5.995 million with Thomas Atamian of Dilbeck Real Estate.

Miley reportedly still lives in LA, in a Hidden Hills mansion which she purchased for $4,953,500 in June 2020. However, the Tennessee-born star also has a house in  Nashville, which she bought in 2017 for approximately $5.8 million.
