I've always found monochrome schemes a little cold and flat for bathrooms, but Naomi Watts' former master bathroom stopped me in my scrolling tracks. When I spotted this masterful design punctuated with gold accent pieces, I was struck by how warm, rich, and inviting it looked, and it might just have completely changed my mind.

If you have the same reservations as I did about black and white bathroom ideas, Naomi Watts' Ashe Leandro-designed bathroom has proved that just a few carefully positioned accent pieces can entirely transform and enliven a monochrome scheme.

Morgan Carper, Interior Designer and Founder of Morgan Carper Designs, explains: 'Metallics keep a monochrome bathroom from feeling flat. I’m drawn to finishes with a living quality – unlacquered or aged brass, and bronzes – because they develop a patina and tonal variation over time, which makes the space feel richer and more collected. It’s far more timeless than a bright, brushed gold. I like to layer these metals across the key touchpoints – plumbing fixtures, lighting, and hardware.'

Below, you can shop the look of Naomi Watts' bathroom, including her exact statement McCarren Chandelier by Ralph Lauren (Lumens) – just be sure to seek advice from an electrician or have it professionally installed before placing a chandelier over a bath. They interrupt flatness and add depth without detracting from the cohesion of the color scheme.'

But, the key to mastering this bathroom design idea is to not overdo it. A metallic accent should be exactly that, an accent, not a dominant feature. Caron Woolsey, Founder and Principal Designer at CW Interiors, offers this advice: 'Where people go wrong is over-accessorizing. A bathroom doesn’t need a collection of metallic objects to make the point. One good mirror, a pair of sconces, and cohesive hardware will do more than ten small accents. Repetition should feel quiet and deliberate. You want continuity, not sparkle.'

(Image credit: Future)

The specific shade of metal is important, too. Decorating with silver or nickel can emphasise the coldness of a monochrome scheme, while gold and brass bring a welcome warmth. And sticking to a single tone will help to keep the look intentional. Leslie adds 'antique brass or aged gold tones add warmth to an all-white, all-black, or tonal gray color scheme. The secret to metallics in monochrome bathrooms is choosing two to three elements that repeat the metallic tone. This could be the faucet, mirror frame, and cabinet hardware. The metallic tone should be consistent to appear sophisticated instead of chaotic.'

There's also a practical reason to opt for brushed or antiqued finishes over high-gloss, says Robert D Puleo, Owner of Denver Bathtub & Tile Reglazing: 'Brushed or satin finishes are the most forgiving day to day because they hide fingerprints, watermarks, and limescale better than polished surfaces.'

Caron concludes: 'Metal works best when it supports the architecture instead of competing with it. If you notice the room first and the finish second, you’ve done it right. That’s what makes a monochrome space feel sophisticated instead of styled.'

For an easy way to enliven and warm up a cold or flat monochrome palette, bathroom hardware ideas are a good place to start. Go for a warm-toned, matte metal, such as brushed brass or antiqued gold, and layer in a few (but not too many) accent pieces, such as lighting and mirrors, to complete the look.

If you enjoy our celebrity news and interior design advice, why not sign up to our newsletter so you never miss the latest features.

Fall always feels like the moment to slow down and turn our homes into warm, cocooning sanctuaries – places made for curling up and unwinding. Think natural materials, rich colors, and tactile layers that make every evening indoors feel special. Actress Naomi Watts has done exactly that in her beautifully cozy living room, proving that ‘quiet luxury’ can also be deeply comforting.

Lately, I’ve found myself drawn to interiors that feel lived-in rather than styled to perfection – snug rooms with character, warmth, and a story to tell. If you’re aiming for that same inviting feel, resist the urge to strip away the things that make your space unique. Those personal touches are what turn a house into a home.

A post shared by Naomi Watts (@naomiwatts)

A photo posted by  on

You don’t need a full redesign to embrace the cozy aesthetic, either. As Sue Jones, co-founder and creative director of Oka, says: ‘Swap linens for heavier fabrics in rich burgundy tones (the room color idea of the moment) to achieve a warm, light-filled room. The Chella Checkered Faux Fur Throw Blanket from Anthropologie is my burgundy must-buy for this season. Also, don’t hold back when it comes to layering prints and patterns; it will help create a feeling of depth that only adds to that coziness.’

Stylist and Homes & Gardens contributor Pippa Blenkinsopp agrees: ‘When creating the ultimate sanctuary, it’s important to consider not only how the space looks, but also how it feels. Think about engaging all the senses with tactile textures, ambient lighting, fall candles, and fragrances. Most importantly, however, fill the space with items you love, as these will bring the ultimate comfort.’

When I’m decorating for the colder months, I always focus on lighting, furniture, and texture. Swap harsh overheads for the warm glow of table lamps, and layer soft furnishings wherever you can – rugs, drapes, cushions, throws. 'To achieve this effect, I would recommend opting for lighter shades, such as soft blue and powder blue, which have been extremely popular in the interior space over the last couple of years. These calm, tranquil blue hues are seeing no sign of slowing down either and are tipped to be a top trend in 2025.'

Meanwhile, the metallic finish of the upper cabinets provides a contemporary feel, particularly since they are paired with frosted glass windows. They would have a minimalist impact if the other cabinets were painted a cream or gray, but the blue helps enliven the space without drawing too much attention away from the upper cabinets' sheen.

If you're working with metallic features in your kitchen, try experimenting with an accent cabinet or wall in a soft color, like sky blue or pale pink for a softer space.

'Try deep, regal greens and a dash of nature-inspired pattern with a heritage feel. We may not all have a Bridgerton budget, but we can learn a thing or two about how to create beautiful spaces just by looking to the past.'

If you don't want to commit to covering your home bar in paint, try incorporating green accessories such as wine glasses or shakers for a similar impact.

At the beginning of the year, many people consider inviting healthier habits into their lives. Whether it's getting into a more frequent exercise routine, eating more nutritious food, or reducing screen time, many of the most common health-related resolutions start with one source: sleep. That is to say, if we are taking our health seriously, it's paramount that we are taking our sleep seriously. Further, good sleep hygiene starts with a good bed.

Naomi Watts has long relied on Coyuchi as the best place to buy bedding for a renewing night's rest, and, to make your dreams even sweeter, they've expanded their offerings to include an all-natural mattress. Watts explains: 'Coyuchi’s unwavering commitment to sustainable, organic, and luxurious textiles speaks to the core of what I believe in. I’ve always felt that the most beautiful things in life are those that remain closest to their natural form—uncomplicated, authentic, and connected to the earth.' The new mattress builds upon this philosophy.

Watts's preferred mattress uses organic and recyclable materials to minimize its environmental footprint. Crafted from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and with GOLS-certified organic latex, it's free of chemicals found in many traditional mattresses. It's also made in the USA, which helps to minimize emissions from transportation. Considering that we spend almost 1/3 of our lives sleeping, it's comforting that this mattress allows a user to spend as little of that time near harmful chemicals, dyes, and toxins as possible.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:75.56%';>

                    Sustainable
The Natural REM Mattress

The Natural Restorative EcoMaterials (REM) Mattress is the first of its kind.
We've said it before and we'll say it again: texture makes all the difference. From transforming a neutral scheme to adding visual interest to a modern room, using a variety of materials is the easiest way to bring depth and warmth into your home. Naomi Watts has mastered the easiest way to incorporate texture: a cozy alpaca throw blanket.

The actress's best throw blanket is the Andes Suri Alpaca Knit Throw from Coyuchi. She announced her adoration for the blanket in her recent curation for the sustainable bedding brand. In the press release, Watts gushes: 'Creating a home filled with beauty, comfort, and mindfulness is how I love to live. Coyuchi’s unwavering commitment to sustainable, organic, and luxurious textiles speaks to the core of what I believe in. I’ve always felt that the most beautiful things in life remain closest to their natural form—uncomplicated, authentic, and connected to the earth. Partnering with Coyuchi allows me to align with a brand that values conscious luxury, making our homes sanctuaries that feed us and our planet.'

Her chosen ivory blanket epitomizes cozy decor and is the perfect way to upgrade your living room sofa this winter. It's made of 100% alpaca fibers from the finest Suri alpacas in the world. The soft, silky texture is unmatched. Despite its plushness, the throw is refreshingly light. As demonstrated by Watts, it's ideal for wrapping around oneself as a beautiful lifestyle accessory.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:75.56%';>

Andes Suri Alpaca Knit Throw

This gorgeous ivory alpaca throw is made 100% from the fibers of one of the softest and rarest alpaca wools in the world. My favorite way to use a throw blanket is draped over the back of a neutral sofa. Especially if you have a white or gray sofa without much texture, a blanket like Watts's suggestion can make all the difference. This look is exceptionally stylish when paired with a few pretty throw pillows. The Suri Alpaca Throw can also be used at the end of a bed. On a full or twin bed, it can be placed horizontally across the bottom of the bed. If you have a larger bed, a throw blanket looks best laid diagonally across a larger quilt or blanket at the end of the duvet.

(Image credit: Coyuchi)

If you love adding texture to your home but aren't in the market for alpaca, Watts's pick of Coyuchi's highly textured, 100% cotton towels is a great way to incorporate the look into your bathroom.
Fall is the time to transform your living room into a warm, cocooning sanctuary perfect for hunkering down. Think natural materials, rich colors, and plenty of texture for restful nights indoors. Award-winning actress Naomi Watts's cozy living room exemplifies this.

Designing a snug room is all about creating a place that is comfortable, functional, and welcoming. If you’re embarking on a new design, there are lots of ways to create a cozy foundation, from room color ideas inspired by nature to sumptuous seating, and plenty of soft furnishings and plush throws.

Lately, I've noticed a shift away from a 'show home' styled house to a more beautifully lived-in feel. If wanting to replicate the cozy aesthetic, it's important not to strip out all of the things in your living room that make it unique – it's those pieces that add individuality to a space and make it real and inviting.

A post shared by Naomi Watts (@naomiwatts)

A photo posted by  on

You don’t have to commit to a complete redesign – just a few well-chosen accessories are enough to transform your room into the perfect spot to hibernate, says Sue Jones, co-founder and creative director of Oka. ‘Swap linens for heavier fabrics in rich burgundy tones (the color of the moment) to achieve a warm, light-filled room. Also, don’t hold back when it comes to layering prints and patterns; it will help create a feeling of depth that only adds to that coziness.’

Stylist and H&G contributor Pippa Blenkinsopp agrees: 'When creating the ultimate sanctuary it’s important to consider, not only how the space looks, but also how it feels. Think about engaging all the senses with tactile textures, ambient lighting, fall candles and fragrances. Most importantly, however, fill the space with items you love, as these will bring the ultimate comfort.'

(Image credit: Future)

When decorating a living room, as a rule, it's best to focus on areas such as lighting, furniture, and texture, particularly if you want to make a large living room feel cozy.

With lighting, you should switch off the bright overhead light (use this only whenever you're cleaning or undertaking practical tasks) and introduce a variety of light sources around the room. Table lamps are a firm favorite of mine.

Furniture should fill the room without overcrowding – sectional sofas, footstools, and so on. The right furniture will instantly add a cocooning effect to even the largest of spaces.

Soft textures should be included all around the room – the look must be cozy and inviting. Introduce an ottoman instead of a coffee table, drapes, and curtains instead of shutters, and rugs and carpet instead of hard flooring. Add cushions and throws to soften up the overall aesthetic.

In no time, your living space will be as warm and cozy as Naomi Watts – perfect for winter.

Shop the look

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Best-seller

Dried Pampas Grass Decor – 100 stems

Dried floral arrangements are an excellent – and cost-effective – way to introduce plenty of texture to a living space.
Why worry about the exterior color of your home when you can bring it to life with the right plants? Vertical planting on a house's exterior transforms its look, instantly adding an air of romance and whimsy. The ivy planted around Naomi Watts's back door is the perfect example.

Watts took to Instagram to share an image of herself posing in a green dress on her patio. Though Watts looks stunning, the climbing plants on her cream walls are just as beautiful. They have been trained to grow around and over her door and expertly pruned to leave a walkway clear. Her glass French doors with gray paint are cool and reflective, contrasting a modern feel with the classic energy of the ivy against the home.

Vertical gardening is more than just beautiful, it's also a very practical way to decorate the exterior of your home. 'Vertical planting is a great way to disguise elements of your yard that might not be the most attractive, including walls,' says gardening expert Dan Bailey. He continues, 'This helps to not only hide these elements but also to provide a more naturalistic cover that doesn't just create another eyesore.'

A post shared by Naomi Watts (@naomiwatts)

A photo posted by  on

For those hoping to recreate Watts's walls, there's one plant that's best for the job: English Ivy. It's beautiful and and easy to learn how to care for ivy. Bailey suggests: 'I tend to recommend your traditional English ivy for the job—it's low-maintenance, fast growing, and creates gorgeous green cover for unsightly walls.'

On the topic of best plants to cover a wall, Miguel Camperos, gardening expert at SunVara adds: 'English Ivy is a great plant to use for vertical planting if you're trying to disguise an ugly wall. This plant is known for its vigorous growth and its ability to climb virtually any surface. It has beautiful lobed foliage that stays green throughout the entire year, providing constant cover for your space. It's also quite hardy and can tolerate a range of light conditions, from shade to partial sunlight. It also has air-purifying qualities, making it a great choice for both aesthetics and health reasons!'

However, before you decide to plant your entire house over with English ivy, it's important to do research. In certain regions, this vine can be an invasive plant. Be sure to check that it's safe to plant where you live. If English Ivy doesn't work in your area, there are many other varieties of ivy and climbing plant that can be used as an easy alternative.

The most important thing when it comes to ivy care is knowing how and when to prune your ivy. Though it may seem intimidating or unhealthy for the plant, the opposite is actually true. Excessive pruning is needed to keep your ivy in check and to keep the plant thriving in any conditions.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

English Ivy

This gorgeous, classic ivy is perfect for recreating the look of Naomi Watts's home. On her home, Watts accomplishes this look with gray paint and glass.
Naomi Watts is associated with action and adventure. Between her roles in films like King Kong, The Impossible, and The Divergent Series, Watts has certainly embraced a daring spirit in her acting. However, when it comes to her interiors, she prefers to take on a more subdued approach.

In a video recently posted to her Instagram page, we can see the actor doing her skincare in her dressing room. While the products may be the main items on display, we were taken by her soothing surroundings. In view behind her is a wooden dresser, a rattan basket, a white armchair, and transparent, light brown curtains, all of which contrast the white, painted walls. The use of natural materials and neutral colors evokes a cozy, serene feel, and it's one that we can get behind.

Design that embraces the natural world is a core pillar of the current interior design zeitgeist. It features strongly within trends like Japandi and organic modern; it is at once in style, and completely timeless. 'As we enter summer, nature-inspired design is set to weave its way into the fabric of interior design, quite literally,' interior stylist at ScS, Victoria Foster, states.

A post shared by Naomi Watts (@naomiwatts)

A photo posted by  on

She continues: 'This interior design trend takes inspiration from natural landscapes, incorporating earthy tones, botanical motifs, and raw materials to create a harmonious and calming environment. Think of it as an ode to nature - blossoming within the confines of your home, the perfect way to forget the winter blues.'

When establishing a nature-inspired color scheme, Foster suggests embracing colors that are typically found in the great outdoors.

'The color palette revolves around mossy greens, warm browns, and soothing blues, evoking the essence of forests, mountains, and oceans,' she says. 'Furniture with organic patterns and textures, such as rattan and reclaimed wood, will be in high demand.'

Watts has adopted these materials within her own space, making the process of getting ready (or doing skincare) feel even more relaxing thanks to the accessories' soothing properties.

Finally, one addition Foster would recommend to enhance the natural decor is actual products of nature.

'In terms of decor, houseplants are a key component of the trend,' she says. 'Wicker or terracotta plant pots are a great way to continue the natural theme, while positioning plants on oak shelving and furniture is a match made in heaven. Try using plants of various sizes and incorporate the colour green in other areas of your décor - from wall décor and artwork to furniture and accessories.'

Below, we have rounded up some wicker baskets and woven trays that would look fantastic in a bathroom, bedroom, or even a living space.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Wicker Basket

Plaited Wicker Baskets

These wicker baskets come in a variety of sizes, meeting any and all storage needs.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Woven Tray

Liesl Tray

Place skincare products, soap, or spices in this organic-feeling tray.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.11%';>Rattan Basket

Loma Rattan Storage Basket

With robust depth, this rectangular, woven basket features handles for easy carrying.

Not only are natural materials beautiful and calming, but many of them are also highly sustainable.
Neutral color palettes have become the go-to in the unending pursuit of creating timeless interiors. Of all the combinations, black and white pairings are one of the most modern and bold ways to embrace the look. Naomi Watts's home is a prime example.

The actress's living room idea, captured in the back of a recent Instagram photo, embodies everything chic about a black-and-white color scheme. Watts's space features a black and white tiled floor against hardwood, white walls with black accents, and a piece of contemporary black and white art. A warm, reddish leather sofa brings in a pop of warmth.

Watt's living room color scheme is brought into the space in multiple ways, namely through the black and white floor. What is its effect on her room? 'It is a statement piece,' says Rotem Eylor, flooring expert at Republic Flooring. He continues, 'The contrast of the two colors offers a bold element that draws attention. Using a black and white floor in a living room creates a focal point, but also opens the space up in a dynamic way. The color combination is timeless, so using it only enhances a feeling of elegance.'

A post shared by Naomi Watts (@naomiwatts)

A photo posted by  on

Furthermore, the black and white living room color scheme is the perfect pairing with white walls and natural wood flooring. Though on their own these design choices are incredibly simple, the boldness of the black and striking quality of the white transform it into something much more eye-catching.

Eylor tells Homes & Gardens: 'It creates a unique balance while adding an edge to the design. The black and white checkered floor is again bold, so adding the inherent warmth of natural wood and the clean look of a white wall brings the room together without it becoming overwhelming. It allows the pattern to stand out against the neutrality of the other design elements and draws the perfect amount of contrast.'

Shop H&G's Black and White Edit

If you are not ready to redo the floor of your living room in black and white tiles, it is still possible to replicate the look of Naomi Watt's gorgeous color scheme by integrating black and white accessories into your space. A black and white rug brings the look to the floor, while black and white light fixtures will give the room a balanced feel.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Diane Keaton Light Pendant

From $960.50 at Perigold

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Glass Table Lamp

From $83.85 at Wayfair

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Jonathan Adler Rug

From $399 at Ruggable

Though black and white isn't the first thing that comes to mind when considering neutral color schemes, it is an excellent option for creating a look that is bold, interesting, and modern but simultaneously timeless.
An all-white kitchen is one of the oldest looks in the book. The timeless style is famous for bringing brightness and light into a cooking space. In Naomi Watt's kitchen, the traditional scheme gains a stylish, modern twist.

The British actress's kitchen idea, which can be spotted in a recent Instagram video, is swathed in white. Her open-concept space features white marble countertops, white walls and a white stove backsplash. Contrasting features include a black breakfast bar against light-stained natural wood flooring. While all of this sounds relatively standard, one element elevates the space to the next level: the glossy finish of Watts's cabinets.

A careful look shows that her upper kitchen cabinets have a glass-like texture. Some cabinets are actually made of glossy, frosted glass, offering a translucent view of the cookware inside. This look has several benefits for Watts's space, including making it appear brighter, larger, and more modern.

A post shared by Naomi Watts

A photo posted by naomiwatts on

First, Naomi Watt's unique white kitchen cabinet finish makes her space look lighter. Jennifer Ebert, Digital Editor at Homes & Gardens states: 'High gloss finishes always bring brightness into a room. Their mirror-like qualities reflect light around the room. We can see this clearly in Watts's kitchen where both the inset ceiling lights and the light from the kitchen window are reflected on the cabinets. This nearly doubles the amount of light in her space.

Second, the brightness brought on by this finish causes Watts's space to look larger. 'White cabinets are a surefire way to make your kitchen look larger,' says Ebert. She continues, 'In addition to the brightening qualities, the color drenching of white in this kitchen makes one element flow into the next, creating the illusion of a huge space. The contrast in textures, from the matte marble countertops to the glossy cabinets, makes this style look all the more finished and sophisticated.'

Finally, the choice of glossy cabinets in Watts's kitchen is an excellent one because it gives the space a definitive design theme. 'There are hundreds of iterations of the white kitchen, but the glossy cabinets bring this space squarely into the modern kitchen decor theme. Choosing a theme and sticking to it can help a space look finsihed and cohesive,' concludes Ebert.

The White Kitchen Edit

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Marble Coaster Set

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Smeg 4 Slice 50s Style Toaster

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Small Marble Bowl

Naomi Watts's space is proof that the look of a white kitchen isn't fixed, and that something as simple as a cabinet finish can completely overhaul the look.
Going open-plan is a great way to increase the versatility of your home and, with the right design choices, can work well whatever your needs.

Moving beyond the kitchen-diner, a modern open-plan living room ditches the formal living space, home office, and sitting room in favor of one large, multifunctional space, with entertaining at its heart.

Open-plan living rooms are so popular that it's unusual to find a modern or renovated home with separate reception rooms. That said, designing, furnishing, and lighting an open-plan living room needs some decorating know-how – which is why we love Australian actress Naomi Watt's open-concept space, designed to harmonize with the rest of her home.

Whether you opt to create distinct zones or decide to promote a sense of harmony and flow, open-plan living spaces can work well whatever the size and shape of your home.

A post shared by Naomi Watts (@naomiwatts)

A photo posted by  on

So why are open-plan kitchens, dining rooms, and living spaces so popular among homeowners? One of the main reasons that people move house is the desire for more space. It is often possible to realize this dream, though, by reconfiguring the floorplan of your existing home. Something as simple as removing a wall can transform a tired living room and poky kitchen into a beautiful open-concept area, perfect for hosting all the family, and at a fraction of the cost of moving.

Whether you opt to create distinct zones or decide to promote a sense of harmony and flow, open-plan living spaces can work well whatever the size and shape of your home.

Color will play a significant role in how your space looks and feels. We recommend that you stick to one harmonious color palette when designing an open-plan living room. If in doubt, redecorate using a neutral living room color scheme. Many rooms are suited to the neutral look, but as neutrals are so relaxing, we especially love a monochromatically neutral design for an open-concept space.

It is not just celebrities who are embracing a more restrained interior decorating style, either. In a world where everything at times feels so fast-paced and chaotic, more and more people are turning to quieter, softer decorating ideas at home. Now, more than ever, we seek subtle, quiet luxury in our homes; spaces that exude warmth, elegance, and serenity.

What people are longing for now, says the content director of Homes & Gardens, Lucy Searle, is light, open spaces, and calming, neutral decor that evokes an emotional response – something that makes us feel happier at home.

Shop the look

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

'Fyre 24' Hand-Carved White Tile Wall Art Decor

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Elias Rectangular Coffee Table

            <a href="https://www.crateandbarrel.com/sentry-butterfly-framed-black-wall-art-print-by-lucia-eames/s335677" data-model-name=""Sentry Butterfly" Framed Black Wall Art Print by Lucia Eames™" data-model-brand="" >
<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/zNtUSPtWpZFsQ99nFMZgRn.jpg" alt=""Sentry Butterfly" Framed Black Wall Art Print by Lucia Eames™">

"Sentry Butterfly" Framed Black Wall Art Print by Lucia Eames™

A bold, fiery color tinged with hints of red and brown, it is zestier than earth tones, yet offers a smokier, more relaxed aesthetic than brighter hues. Terracotta provides decorating schemes with energy, while also imbuing a sense of warmth and calm.

‘A terracotta color scheme feels both cozy and uplifting,' says Natasha Greig, director, of Veere Grenney Associates. 'It has great depth, so when used in small rooms all over the walls, it makes the room feel more generous. Richer shades such as terracotta and blood orange can bring a real sense of warmth to a space. I would suggest using them as accent colors and mixing them with a calming, neutral palette.’

For a light, summery feel, contrast terracotta with a palette of white and off-white linen hues, as Naomi Watts has done in her sunshine-laden bedroom.
