In October 2023, I had the chance to attend an Autumnal Floral Masterclass at The Real Flower Company, where I learned how to recreate Witherspoon's simple Halloween decor idea. Though the design is straightforward, the class offered key tips for making a bouquet that can last for weeks. Here’s a guide to creating your own seasonal pumpkin display.

You will need a pumpkin, chicken wire, greenery, flowers, and water. Start by preparing the pumpkin – cut a circle around the stem large enough to hold your flowers, and scoop out the seeds and flesh from the inside. Even if your pumpkin is pre-scooped, Rosebie Morton, the class leader, stressed the importance of drying the interior to help the arrangement last.

Next, add support with chicken wire – crunch the wire into a ball that fits inside the pumpkin opening, leaving the openings large enough to insert flower stems. This will help keep the arrangement stable.

Build the base with greenery – start by adding foliage to fill out the arrangement, giving it a lush, vibrant foundation. Insert each stem into the holes in the chicken wire.

Now, add autumn flowers – choose blooms in seasonal hues like orange, red, yellow, and pink for a classic fall look, or stick to whites for a neutral, elegant vibe like Reese's. To create a bouquet that feels full of life, vary the heights of the flowers, using tall, medium, and short stems. A sharp pruning tool will help with precise trimming.

Finally, hydrate and maintain – add a few inches of water and plant food to the bottom of the pumpkin to keep your flowers fresh. Replenish the water every few days for a long-lasting display.

Some trend comebacks are total surprises; namely, ones from the '80s and '90s. When we heard whispers that a staple of the latter, honey oak, was back in style, we weren't totally sure that we could get behind that. That's all changed after seeing Reese Witherspoon's staircase.

'Vinyl flooring has come a long way in both construction and aesthetics,' Neel continues. 'Today’s luxury vinyl options are made from multiple layers of PVC, often with a rigid core for stability, and a realistic printed surface. It’s waterproof and incredibly resilient, making it especially suited for areas like kitchens, bathrooms, or basements where moisture is a factor. It’s also an ideal choice for high-traffic homes with children and pets.'

However, nothing beats the original, engineered wood, which gives the honey oak shade a grainy and truly natural look.

'Engineered wood is the perfect blend of natural beauty and structural integrity,' Neel explains. 'It features a top layer of real hardwood veneer bonded to a multi-layered plywood core, making it more dimensionally stable than solid wood. The saying 'seeing green' has taken on a whole new meaning in the realm of interior design lately. From trendy green kitchens to luxe, green sofas, this earthy hue seems to be the color dominating our homes right now.

Alex says that when painting a wall green, like Reese has done, it's important to create a harmonious space with additional neutrals and natural materials.

'When using green on walls or in soft furnishings, balance it out with materials that offer a sense of weight and warmth,' Alex explains. 'Wood tones like oak and walnut help bridge the contrast between green and white, subtly mirroring the natural palette of leaves and tree trunks, while it might not have quite the same impact as being in nature, it can mildly recreate a similar restful feeling.'

Growing up in New England, I had no choice; hydrangeas had to be my favorite flower. Years of seeing the plants wave in the sea breeze against white colonial-style homes in Maine amounted to complete indoctrination. I can't pass one of the blooms without stopping to look.

Despite my expertise, Reese Witherspoon showed me a new way to grow hydrangeas; on the porch, using a blue ceramic planter.

Though it might not be the most novel idea, it makes a huge splash. The pink and blue make one another stand out, and the shiny surface of the container garden is the perfect contrast to the textured surface of the leaves. Best of all, Reese's method allows her to grow large blooms on her small patio.

As a hydrangea-lover living in a small flatshare in London, this last point is the most intriguing to me. We have a tiny patio at the back of my home, and I never imagined that I would be able to plant my favorite flowers there. It's rare to see hydrangeas as part of a container gardening trend because they tend to be larger than the typical houseplant. However, this setup shows that more than possible, it's also beautiful.

Better yet, I believe it would work well with all hydrangea varieties. Though Reese demonstrates with a blue vase and pink flowers, it would look equally stunning with a light blue vase and white flowers, or blue flowers in a darker blue vase.

If you want to recreate Reese's look, I recommend opting for a large, shiny vase as the actress has done. The reflective textural contrast and room to grow will ensure your plants look stunning and grow to a healthy height.

There are thousands of ways to love your favorite flower, and bringing them onto your porch is a wonderful opportunity to transport them closer to your home. Especially for those who live in small homes, Reese's choice is the perfect option.

It's no secret that a front door is one of the most important parts of the home. It's one of the first things anyone sees when looking at a property, and as such, can have a major impact on curb appeal.

Last year, I noticed that Reese Witherspoon opted for a pastel green shade for her own front door, and I was struck by the playful yet sophisticated ambiance that it created. A year later, I'm still thinking about this hue, and firmly believe it's one of the best front door color ideas.

The earthy hue is highly complementary against her red brick facade, and also ties into her outdoor plants, making it a cohesive color choice.

If you don't want to commit to green as a front door color, it also makes a wonderful and on-trend pick for any outdoor furniture. Try experimenting with a green side table, green cushions, or even a green umbrella for your patio.

Some things are just classics: green smoothies and Legally Blonde come to mind. These might be seemingly unrelated, but Reese Witherspoon recently shared a clip of her go-to smoothie, and we couldn't help but admire the vibrant green color, in addition to noticing her blender.

'My mom has had hers for about seven years, and it still works beautifully,' says Homes & Gardens' kitchens editor Lydia Hayman.

'She uses it regularly for morning smoothies and desserts. When I went home for the holidays, I made an avocado chocolate mousse in it – it turned out smooth and airy.'

Lydia does note that this particular model works better for individual portions, like Reese's smoothie.

When it comes to colors that go with orange, designers say that it's best to stick with neutral shades and natural materials.

'Biogenic materials like wood/bamboo, and bronze colors blend well with orange,' explains Hafsa Burt, a renowned architect, designer, and sustainability expert. 'Shades of white offer a fantastic contrast making the orange color pop.'

Orange also comes in a wide variety of shades, from terracotta to tangerine, so selecting a more muted or refined shade is a great way to introduce it into your space seamlessly.

'If you feel as though bright orange is too bold, choosing pastel shades of the color can tone it down slightly and nod to the soft aesthetic of spring,' explains Rhiannon Masters, interior designer and head of brand at Piglet in Bed.

Between its positive impact on the mind and aesthetically pleasing properties, we are pro-orange in the dressing room (and beyond).

In my home, minimalism reigns supreme. I love working with neutrals, from my cream and beige cushions to my subtle rattan accessories that sit alongside my houseplants. You can imagine, then, that introducing animal print was never on my agenda. Then I saw Reese Witherspoon's zebra-printed sofa.

While researching Reese Witherspoon's property portfolio, I had the opportunity to revisit some of the actress's archival shots, when her animal-printed piece stopped me in my tracks.

I'd always thought this pattern was daring, and far too audacious to introduce in a minimalist living room like my own. However, Reese's black and brown print doesn't feel overly intrusive. It simply makes a statement without being overpowering. It's one of the chicest sofas I've ever seen, and I never thought I'd say that about zebra print.

Knowing how to decorate with animal prints tastefully is easier than it looks. I spoke to celebrated designer, Kathy Kuo, from Kathy Kuo Home, who explained that balance is key.

'When used intentionally, animal prints like leopard, zebra, and tiger prints can look really chic and subtle,' she says. ' It's all about setting a balance where the animal print is an eye-catching accent that complements other colors and patterns, rather than the dominant print across the entire space.'

Alongside a zebra print, Kathy has noticed cow prints shaping interior design trends for 2025. However, you don't need to limit it to your sofa. A cow-printed cushion, just like this one on Wayfair, is subtle enough to deserve a place in even the most minimalist of living spaces. Trust me, I would shop for it for myself.

'I love animal print for decorative pillows and hair-on-hide throw rugs especially, but I've also noticed a trend toward western-inspired cow print for ottomans and bench cushions as well,' Kathy says.

When in doubt, keep the area around your animal prints neutral, and accessories and artwork to a minimum. That way, your space won't feel too overwhelmed with color, and you can enjoy the lightheartness of these prints without worry. Take it from Reese, who did it first.

When looking for outdoor furniture inspiration, it may seem natural to draw inspiration from patios, porches, or terraces. However, in my case, I found what I was looking for inside: In Reese Witherspoon's sun room, to be exact.

Reese's charming space blurs the lines between indoor/outdoor living seamlessly. The earthy mint-green color scheme complements the surrounding greenery, seen through the large window panes, ensuring it feels like a transitional space that offers respite from the sun over summer. There's a lot to admire in this sunroom, but her white wicker love seat stole my attention.

Rattan and wicker pieces first surged in popularity in the late 1950s and 1960s, when they became a popular feature of the modern American home. However, today, they are arguably more fashionable than ever before, and Reese's endorsement only emphasizes this further.

Part of their eternal appeal comes from versatility: Impressing both indoors and outdoors, where it can withstand the elements. Reese's love seat is one of the most perfect pieces I've seen to date, and I'm desperate to recreate the look for the summer.

According to Sue Jones, the creative director and co-founder at OKA, these organic pieces will bring a sense of 'quiet luxury' to your patio. 'I think, first and foremost, the goal of a minimalist, 'quiet luxury' garden is to create a feeling of comfort and tranquillity. Garden furniture made from rattan or wood lends itself quite nicely to this aesthetic because of its organic textures and neutral colour palette,' Sue says.

'To add a touch more luxury (and who doesn’t want to do that?), I’d suggest choosing furniture with a statement weave or a striking, structural shape. Don’t forget to add softness with cushions or throws in muted, warm tones such as ochre or mustard – they will tie in well with the neutral palette.'

1. Farmhouse in Nashville, Tennessee

Reese currently lives in Nashville following her divorce from Jim Toth in 2023. However, she reportedly purchased the home as a 'fixer-upper' from automobile industry giants Lee and Kelly Beaman in 2014.

'Reese has always said she’s a total Southern girl, so returning to her roots was a dream,' a close insider shared with Yahoo. 'She lives a really normal life in Nashville.'

In 2001, the same year as Legally Blonde's release, Reese began her property portfolio. She invested in this Bel Air mansion alongside her first husband, Ryan Phillippe, for $3.3 million.

Characterful but serene, this Gerard Concord-designed home features a beautiful living space with vaulted ceilings, a wet bar, a swimming pool, and an outdoor spa. It's surrounded by mature trees to bring a sense of serenity, despite its vibrant LA zipcode.

The couple sold the property in 2004 for $4.5 million.

3. Rural Ojai retreat, Ventura County

In 2006, Reese purchased a luxurious country retreat that acclaimed architect Wallace Neff designed as a farmhouse for industrialist Edward Drummond.

Before Reese's ownership, designer Kathryn Ireland had transformed the space into an eclectic yet sophisticated home, while preserving its century-old fixtures, hardware, and original stonework.

Reese, who paid $4 million for the home, resold the unique property in 2013 for $5 million.

4. Colonial-style manor, Belle Meade

In July 2018, Reese bought this quintessential home in Tennessee's leafy neighborhood, Belle Meade, for $3.76 million.

In 2019, Reese invested in a unique vacation home, named Zuma Farms, for $6.3 million.

The 1950s estate, described as a 'rare, exceedingly private oasis,' sits in the foothills high above Malibu's Zuma Beach – the perfect location for a serene vacation home within walking distance to the shore.

The actress ensured it stayed true to its vintage roots, highlighting the wood-beam ceiling, brick fireplace, and preserving the large windows that overlook the lush yard. In 2023, she listed the home for $8 million, which includes a vintage Airstream trailer in the backyard.

Followers of Reese will already be familiar with her expansive Pacific Palisades home, which she purchased in 2014 for $12.7 million.

Working on Homes & Gardens' celebrity-style desk, I've become familiar with design features that almost always provoke a reaction among designers and readers alike. Perhaps most common of all is the concept of a color-coded bookcase, a familiar feature of Reese Witherspoon's home.

Followers of Reese will know the actress is a firm supporter of this much-debated look, as she's shared many glimpses of the various bookcases around her home and office, almost always color-coordinated.

It wasn't a huge surprise, therefore, when she recently shared yet another reading nook on her Instagram, this time sporting a collection of red, green, pink, and yellow books. It's reminded me just how powerful this bookshelf-organizing method can look in a living room, because, alongside being conversation-worthy, it's cohesive yet individual. It's one of the only times I can decorate items that feel personal without sacrificing an ultra-clean and organized aesthetic.

Plus, it's guaranteed to spark a conversation every time I have a cocktail party, from those who either love or hate the look. Either way, it's there to be discussed.

For anyone who loves a bit of coordination (and let's be honest, who doesn’t love things looking just right), organising your books by color can feel deeply satisfying – like giving your shelves a little glow-up,' she says.

Reese has coordinated her shelves color by color, but I don't need to be as strict in how I style. Lisa says I can, instead, group similar hues together (for example, blues and greens/reds and pinks) to create a similar statement

'You can go full-on rainbow order or try tonal stacking - think all your warm hues together, or a gradient effect from dark to light,' she says.

'You could even keep it monochrome: all whites, greys, or blacks for a more minimalist, gallery-style look. And if you’ve got books with bold spines or beautiful covers, this method really lets them shine as part of the décor.'

One last thing to consider before I follow suit? The books I have might not cooperate. This is what makes my bookshelves unique to me however.

'Not all books play nicely when it comes to size. So, while your colour coordination might be on point, you could end up with a few wonky shelves where the hardbacks and paperbacks refuse to line up neatly. But hey, that’s all part of the charm – a little visual interest never hurt anyone,' Lisa says. Plus, if Reese supports this look, who am I to disagree?

Picking a kitchen cabinet color is a strategic decision – you want something that will stand the test of time, as well as be versatile enough to transition into different styles. For many, the solution has been, and always will be, gray or green.

Martha Stewart and Reese Witherspoon are both in this camp, with each boasting subtle, gray-green cabinets in their respective kitchens.

Their spaces are giving us some major green kitchen ideas, despite being decades apart from one another. Martha Stewart's gray-green cabinets evoke a more nostalgic feel, while Reese's are contemporary. However, they both have a glass front, which evokes an old-money feel alongside the gray hue. Alternatively, olive green makes a great pick for those wanting a bit of a warmer feel to their kitchen.

'It’s no secret green kitchens have become a timeless classic,' Rebecca explains. 'The versatile color works magic as either an earthy, neutral backdrop or a bold statement piece in your scheme. With its warm and organic feel, the olive color used in our recent Kensington Townhouse project – paired with navy cabinetry, walnut furniture, and brass hardware – delivers that perfect balance of comfort and style.'

It's clear that green kitchens are not going out of style anytime soon, and opting for a gray-green paint color is a great way to ensure longevity and versatility.

Anyone who follows Reese Witherspoon will know she's a proud bookworm – she founded her eponymous book club, after all. If anyone were to set the blueprint for the perfect reading nook, we'd expect it to be her, and a look at her Instagram confirms what we'd already suspected.

The Legally Blonde actress took to the app to share a recent book recommendation (The Three Lives of Cate Kay by Kate Fagan, for anyone interested) and, in doing so, offered a glimpse into the beautiful reading nook tucked inside the corner of her living space.

'I love a good reading nook – it’s the ultimate little escape within your own home. Whether it's a spot to wind down after a busy day or your weekend go-to, it’s all about comfort, calm, and just the right amount of cozy,' she says.

'Comfy seating is non-negotiable. You want something you can properly relax into. Think a deep armchair with generous arms or a built-in window seat with a big, squishy cushion. Add a pouffe or footstool if you can – it makes all the difference for that put-your-feet-up feeling.'

As someone who has worked in luxury designer bedding, I can honestly say that Reese's designs look much higher-end. If you're a fan John Robshaw's designs, many of the quilts closely resemble his bedding, and could be a good alternative at a lower price point. Roller Rabbit also comes to mind. After seeing the designs, I was surprised that it's only about $90 for a set including shams compared to around $300 for one piece from other brands. If you like an elevated home full of pattern but don't want the cost, these could be a good alternative.
