Often people don’t know what to do with a tiny space. It can feel harder to transform than a large room, but it just takes planning. Some of my favorite spaces are small rooms – when done well, they feel really tailored to the owner and the house.

This streamlined design, which forms an L-shape was designed with legs to counter height to let the light through and allow more flooring to be on view. It achieves the maximum prep space without creating an obstacle.

Ebert says, 'Modern farmhouse promotes the classic "clean" look through the use of smooth surfaces and white, but this look can be a bit clinical. The marble on the breakfast table, the natural wood, the cushions, the vases, and the plants around the room disrupt the smoothness of this style for a more dynamic textural look.'

Furthermore, this look is slated to be a huge interior design trend in 2024. Ebert says, 'Over the past few years, we've moved away from extreme minimalism and overly curated spaces. Sarah Paulson's living room is a great example of taking what you love and leaving the rest from the modern farmhouse trend. As people move away from trying to copy a trend exactly into decorating more with personal style, I think that looks like this will continue to become more popular.'

Lichtenstein tells Homes & Gardens: 'The glass shower doors are a practical and aesthetic choice, allowing natural light to flood the space, presumably from a window in the shower. This influx of natural light highlights the delicate pink hues, making the room feel larger and more airy.'

Paulson's pink bathroom has also been accessorized to perfection. Kuo states, 'The subtle pops of mint green and light teal in the rug, wastebasket, and wall cabinet create a contrast that feels equal parts whimsical and summer-ready.'

Lichtenstein adds: 'Striking cylindrical sconces flank the mirror, their gentle light sure to reflect off the zellige tiles and enhance the room's rosy ambiance. Not only is it the unique room divider that the design experts admire, but they also comment on how effective the home's primary neutral color palette is in aiding the home in feeling bright. Diesel says of the white-colored walls: 'These lend an air of spaciousness and also serve as a canvas for the wondrous interplay of light within the space,' while Kaiko suggests they provide the perfect backdrop against the more saturated colors elsewhere in the home, saying: 

'The use of neutral tones mainly in the 'public spaces' like the kitchen and living spaces provides a calming backdrop. Against this, varying hues of pink, purple, and burgundy in the private spaces stand out but not overwhelmingly so. It is interesting to note that with the right choice of color, even a functional piece like a curtain can become a design statement.'

‘Where a more warm-toned purple is used, pair with fawns and creams, or contrast with a touch of olive green. Purple is a lovely rich color and perhaps more ambiguous than pinks, with the underlying blue tone enabling it to sit well with other blues, too.’

More notably, purple has been used by the wealthy, and those high office in the Church for centuries. Its elite status stemmed from the rarity and cost of the dye.

'Often associated with royalty and tradition, deep purple is perfect for adding drama and character to a room,' suggests Helen Shaw, director of Benjamin Moore.  'Saturated shades envelop a room, so consider introducing the rich hue into a space that benefits from natural light to create an intriguing interplay of light and dark.'
