In many ways, my New York City studio apartment is a perfect space. It’s in a quiet building on a quiet street, it has tall ceilings and large windows, and its separate kitchen makes it feel so much bigger than it actually is. A dorm room is usually blank, with empty white walls, devoid of any personality, and lacking in storage and organization. That's why, while at college, I relied on clever, damage-free hooks to string up my fairy lights, display pictures, and add all-important hanging space, without risking my deposit.

• Ensure the tab is pointing down: I cannot stress this step enough, as it is the reason I had to fix cracks in plaster walls in my second year. The small tab on a Command hook is how you remove it, and it needs to be pointing downwards, not sideways, to ensure damage-free removal later down the line.
• Allow the strip to stick before hanging anything: In a rush to decorate or organize a space, I have been guilty of sticking the strip on the wall and hanging the item up right away. However, this can cause the strip to peel away. Instead, let the strip sit on the wall for 24 hours before hanging anything with it to allow it to properly adhere.
• Remove slowly with two hands: The ‘damage-free’ part of command strips comes down to the removal technique. To remove a strip from a wall without damage, place one finger at the top of the strip, applying firm pressure, as you pinch and pull the bottom tab downwards, not away from the wall. This stretches the sticky backing for safe removal. Only once it is fully stretched out, remove your top finger for the strip to come away completely.

If your bathroom is feeling cluttered, you’re not alone. I’m ruthlessly decluttering mine as it’s the only solution for the ‘clutter creep’ that has spread across every surface and cabinet in recent months.

Bathrooms are one of the most functional spaces of any home, and the products and potions you’ll find in these rooms largely have to stay put. A great solution to clearing the mess that can silently build up is using smart organizers that do not impede your access, whilst also using the vertical height available to you.

The ’70s got a lot of things right. The mesmerizing swirls of burled wood being one. Storage ideas, a little less so. Not that they weren’t trying. This was around the time furniture discovered it could multitask. My New York City studio apartment has many strengths – a spacious layout, 12+ foot ceilings, and timeless hard-wood floors, just to name a few. That said, it's not without its weaknesses – the greatest being its severe lack of kitchen storage.

With hot weather and rising humidity, it’s the ideal time to switch out any lingering winter clothes from your closet and reclaim vital space.

As someone with only 20 inches of hanging rail space in my tiny closet, I always rely on Amazon’s vacuum storage bags, which compact down by 80%, to easily switch out and store clothes I don’t need from one season to the next.
