Security cameras are one of the best security measures for a house, especially if, like me, you need renter-friendly home security options that don't require hard wiring or damage to the property.

Having grown up with a military father obsessed with home security picks, I am far more comfortable leaving the house for prolonged periods of time when I know I can regularly check in on the property. So, when organizing my home before going on vacation last week, I decided to pick up the eufy Indoor Cam E220, also at Best Buy, to replace my monthly-subscription Blink camera. We have tested and reviewed several eufy products on Solved, including the eufy E340 video doorbell and the eufy Robot Vacuum Omni S1 Pro, and we have yet to be disappointed by their home tech, ease of setup, or app functionality, so I had high hopes.

I am thrilled to say the Eufy Security Indoor Cam E220 has met all of my expectations. Not only does the eufy camera offer a fully functional, subscription-free model, but it also provides full viewing control of my rooms, allowing for panning 360° horizontally and tilting 96° vertically through the easy-to-use app controls.

When securing your home without a security system, adding a mandatory monthly fee to record any activity in your home can be a serious roadblock to effectively protecting your property.

With the eufy pan and tilt camera, however, I had the option to subscribe monthly to store recordings in the cloud (with a 30-day free trial) or install a micro SD card, such as the Amazon Basics 128GB Micro SD Memory Card, to store recordings locally, which can then be manually transferred to a computer.

The eufy E220 box arrived with the camera, plug-in cable, quick start guide, and a wall mounting unit; however, I opted to set the camera on a table in the center of my open-plan living space for a damage-free setup.

From there, it was as easy as plugging it in, scanning the QR code on the base of the camera with the eufy home app, and entering my home WiFi password. It took me less than 10 minutes to set up, including downloading the app and making an account. You can also pair it with Apple and Alexa systems when setting up a smart home for easy control.

The camera also features an AI system that can detect what is in shot. For example, once set up, the camera picked up that I was walking around my home, and a notification was sent to my phone to tell me a person was in my living room. The camera can then follow that person around the room automatically, so no action is missed.

I don't have any pets to test this feature, but the E220 promises to distinguish between people and pets for accurate security notifications, and has a built-in microphone and speaker for easy communication, making it an ideal deterrent to prevent burglary, or talk to your pets when you are out.

My only gripe is that it was so eager to detect potential threats that while I was on holiday, it picked up a coat hanging by its hood on my entryway coat rack as a person several times. Luckily, panning the camera remotely through the app cut this coat from view, stopping the false alert notifications. There is also an option to set 'blind' spots – areas you do not want the camera to record – to eliminate these false alerts, too.

All in all, however, I love this new security camera so much that I am buying one for my security-mad dad as a Christmas present while it is on sale. It gets a certified 10/10 from me.

Cyber Monday is the Monday immediately following Black Friday. Originally it started as a day for online tech and gadget deals, but in recent years it has become more general, with many home and garden deals extended or rebranded into that day.

In effect, the Black Friday 'window' often ends with Cyber Monday, so it’s a good time to keep an eye out for last‑minute deals.

We've been covering the best Black Friday deals for the past few days and none of the prices have hugely changed. However, I was surprised to find a huge discount – in fact, the biggest we've ever seen – on the best air fryer we've tested, the 5-star Instant Vortex Plus for Cyber Monday. I was even more surprised this morning to see that the price is still up, so you may have a few more hours to grab this deal.

So, if you've had your eye on an air fryer in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, we recommend making the most of this excellent deal before Cyber Monday comes to a close.

Here's all you need to know about this air fryer, and whether or not this deal is worth the hype.

What's the deal?

Is the air fryer any good?

This air fryer excels at all the basics and has a couple of extra features that put it head and shoulders above air fryers of a similar type at a similar price point. We tested it alongside two Ninja air fryers and it blew them out of the water on every test, which is especially impressive given that those two air fryers also made it into our roundups of the best air fryers.

In her review, appliance expert Millie said 'Our finished fries were the crispiest and most evenly-cooked of the three air fryers we were testing', and it was a similar story when we tested it on vegetables, chicken, and bacon. It's slower than the Ninja air fryers but makes better food.

It does all of this quietly, never breaking 64dB, which puts it among the quietest air fryers we've tested. Even tiny features are useful; the control dials are on a slope, so you can place this air fryer right under a cabinet and see the time and temperature as you use it.

The bonus features are amazing, too. 'ClearCook' is a grand bit of jargon for a window and an internal light, but most air fryers don't include this as a feature, and it makes it much easier when cooking things like fries and vegetables which are easy to overcook in an air fryer.

Better than that, however, is the 'OdorEase' technology, which removes the smell of cooking food. In her review, expert appliance tester Millie said that 'Even odor-heavy foods such as bacon were not detectible in the air around the air fryer.' The only exception is a tiny smell when cooking moisture-heavy food like vegetables, but you have to get in close to the air fryer to smell this.

What are the drawbacks?

Before you take the plunge, there are a few drawbacks to bear in mind. The first is that it isn't non-toxic. That's not at all to say that this air fryer is dangerous, but that it uses a non-stick coating. If scratched, this coating can release PFOAs (also known as forever chemicals, as they remain in your body for life) that are linked to several health issues. However, this air fryer is no more dangerous than any other non-stick kitchen appliance or tool like a non-stick skillet or muffin tray.

Another drawback is a more general issue with air fryers, which is that the multiple functions are basically all the same. The 'air fry', 'roast', and 'bake' function all use one heating element to cook food at a high temperature. It's not a big issue, but don't think that this some hyper-versatile machine. It can do everything that other air fryers can.

This air fryer may not work for the biggest families, as it has one single air fryer drawer. That means it has half the capacity of two-drawer air fryers. The screen is easily marked with fingerprints, too. While listed as being dishwasher safe on Amazon, Instant recommends that you handwash it, which can be a pain.

However, those are all tiny technical issues. The actual performance of this air fryer can't be faulted. It makes good food fast - that's all you need from an air fryer.

1. Motion sensor security cameras

I vividly remember the first addition to our best home security system being motion sensor security cameras. They started outside our home. Then they made their way inside the house – nowhere that they would be invasive, of course.

This was also the start of my dad setting up a smart home. The reason I remember it so well was because one of the cameras used to live on the stairwell would speak when armed, reading out a clear warning message that you were being recorded.

My dad decided to play the cruel trick of not telling me this, arming it, and calling me out of my bedroom. Of course, as I headed for the stairs and made my way down, the voice scared the life out of me (and I did nearly topple down the stairs, which he felt bad for at least). If it worked on me, it would certainly work on someone hoping for an easy, quiet break-in.

2. Security lights

Security lights surround the outside of our home, both in the front and back yards. These serve two purposes. They light up the pathway when we get home in the dark so that it is easier to unlock the front door. Secondly, they would alert us to anyone who came through the front gate at night.

We have very tall privacy hedges guarding our front yard, so the lights were never set off by anyone walking past, they would simply alert us to people who approached the house. You best bet that my dad would be at the window (with the classic hands-behind-the-back dad pose) when the lights flooded on alerting us to an unexpected visitor.

3. A video doorbell

One of his favorite additions to the house was the best wireless doorbell – a Ring Battery Doorbell, from Amazon, with a built-in camera.

This played two roles – alerting him to visitors and the mailman when he was working down in his shed, and picking up on the movement of people who didn’t ring or knock to burglar-proof a front door. He has, on more than one occasion, decided to talk to me through this as I was unlocking the door after school, or butt in to ask who was at the door when I opened it to receive a package (much to the confusion of many a delivery man).

This is something I want to upgrade in my own home at some point, as it is my favorite security feature of my parent’s home. It gives you peace of mind when you are away from home, and can even help prevent porch pirates.

4. Door sensors

My dad highly rates using door sensors if a home security system isn't possible for your home or simply, you don't want one.

These simple stick-on sensors attach to the door and the door frame (they also work on windows), and will send a notification to his phone whenever the door is opened (and the system is armed). This gives him a heads-up if any door that shouldn’t be moving opens up when he is away from home.

Luckily, this generally only alerts him to my impromptu trips home to raid my parent's pantry, but it is a great way to prevent burglary and keep a home secure.

All of these measures might seem over the top, and I used to agree. But now, having lived in my house for over two years and been on many long trips, I get why my dad has so many things in place to keep his house safe and give him peace of mind.

The Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales aren't well known for having many decent gardening deals. It's the wrong time of year, as few of us are gardening, and the knock-on effect is that most tool manufacturers have little stock, so there's no real reason to put any of their products on sale.

However, there are exceptions, and every so often you can find a gardening gem in amongst the avalanche of cheap headphones and air fryers. I've tested lots of the best essential gardening tools, including plenty of pruning saws. However, I think one stands head and shoulders above the rest.

I spotted my favorite pruning saw at a much lower price than it should be. For just $20 – half the usual price – you can grab a lightweight but tough pruning saw. Unfortunately, this deal has just ended, but there are some other options worth exploring.

What's the deal?

Is the saw any good?

This is my favorite pruning saw I've ever tested. It's packed with clever features that make it easier to use than any other pruning saw I've used.

Firstly – and most importantly – this pruning saw is very effective. It can saw through tough branches like they aren't even there. It gives one of the best cuts I've ever seen from a pruning saw, and certainly the best from any folding pruning saw I've tried. If you want the cleanest cut possible to prevent disease, you need this pruning saw.

All that strength is even more impressive when you consider the lightness of this pruning saw. When I first took it out of the box, I thought it was cheap, Amazon-quality junk – it felt flimsy. However, it's just a clever design. The blade is high-carbon steel, but the handle is aluminum, so it only weighs 6oz. It's one of the lightest pruning saws I've ever tried, yet one of the toughest.

It has the best out-of-the-box safety catch I've ever used. Without having to oil it, the catch is perfectly balanced. Unlike some folding pruning saws I've used, it isn't so loose that the catch falls open, which can be a big safety hazard. Nor is it too stiff – some folding pruning saws need oiling so that they aren't too stiff to open. This is perfectly balanced - you can open it with a flick of a wrist, but it isn't so loose that it will open dangerously in your pocket.

The handle is comfortable, too. Most pruning saws I've tried start to rub uncomfortably with repeated pruning, but this saw held up for hours. The grip is very effective, and your hands won't slip as you use it.

What are the drawbacks?

There are some tiny drawbacks to this saw. The big one is that the handle is solid black. That sounds like a small aesthetic issue, but black handles can be a real pain when gardening. If you drop this into shrubbery or onto a lawn it can be hard to spot it against dark green plants or soil.

Another is that its availability is a little limited in the States. Like all good gardening tools, it has spare parts available so that you can keep the tool maintained and in good working order. However, these parts are often only available in Europe, so it might be expensive to import a part that's usually only $5.

Clever app-controlled mugs, such as the Ember Mug 2, can be used at home or in the office, but allow you to set a custom constant temperature for your coffee, not only meaning you can enjoy your brew from first sip to last drop, but you can choose the exact temperature, between 50-62.5°C, that you like to drink it at.

Brilliant, right? And yes, it works as expected, especially for the arguably hefty price tag. The 10oz version that I have, when tested, lasted for up to 1.5 hours – a period even a procrastinating coffee drinker like myself would struggle to not have finished within.

Your coffee (or tea – I like my green tea to maintain a consistent drinking temperature of 135˚F (57˚C) will never be too hot or too cold with this nifty device. It might seem like a gimmick. But it works exactly as described and I no longer feel the need to hover at the tea point every half hour trying to make a cup of joe, or wasting numerous cups of undrunk tea because I had to step away from my desk. I am the envy of the office.

If you are investing in the best coffee maker, your brew deserves the best mug to drink it from, and going for a heated option will ensure it tastes better for far longer.

When I first moved into my rented home, the bathroom floor was oddly discolored around the edges. I tried every floor cleaner imaginable when I did my ‘move-in clean’, but nothing got it up. I resigned myself to thinking it was permanently stained from years of use.

Then, it started to get worse. It was in all the areas where water was prone to dripping. Under towels and around the shower were the main problem areas. Water would drip and hair and dust would cling to it, forming a thick layer of brown gunk. Gross, I know.

Setting up the Swiffer PowerMop

The Swiffer PowerMop came with everything I needed in one package – including the batteries which was massively appreciated, as I am always running out and forgetting to restock from battery hubs like Amazon.

Setting up was simple thanks to the written instructions and diagrams. The handle clicked together easily, the cleaning solution bottle slid into place without resistance, and the batteries were popped into the casing at the back. All in all, it took me less than five minutes to open the box to have a complete tool.

The mop pad was the final thing to go on. These are disposable, so they are not as eco-friendly as my washable microfiber pads, but they are a lot rougher. The best way I can describe them is having the texture of a cat's tongue – slightly rough but not enough to scratch or do any damage when cleaning vinyl floors. With over 300 hundred of these grippy little strips, you're guaranteed a pro clean without the effort.

Using the Swiffer PowerMop

Mopping floors the right way isn't rocket science, especially when you don't have to use a bucket of soapy water and drench the floor as you work. I decided to test the mop in one area of the bathroom first – throwing it in the deep end and tackling the spot with the most caked-on grime.

The handle has an easy-to-press button that activates the spray jets on the front of the mop, dispersing two jets of cleaning solution at an inwards angle in front of the mop head. It sprays as long as you keep the button pressed, so I had full control over how much solution was used.

With the grimy spot coated, I started to mop. I went lengthwise along the wall – the nature of the handle means you can position the mop head to any orientation you need, so you don't need to stick with basic back and forth to get the job done. This also means the mop can fit into tighter corners, such as the space between the sink and the wall, with ease to clean a floor without streaks.

Just look at this before and after.

The rougher texture of the pads combined with the cleaning solution meant that the grime came up right away. I barely had to put any effort into scrubbing either. All I did was apply gentle pressure and go back and forth over the spot three or four times and there was already a drastic improvement. Any toothpaste stains from the floor were also removed instantly. It was astounding to watch.

I was genuinely under the impression that if my beloved best steam mop couldn’t break down the grime, nothing would come close. It turns out that, because the problem was caused by water, adding more to the equation was only making it worse.

Plus, while I love my Black & Decker 7-in-1 steam mop, it uses washable microfiber pads which, while great at absorbing dirt, are not the best at scrubbing floors. The hard brushes that come with it are designed for cleaning tiles, so I didn’t want to risk using them on the linoleum and scratching it especially as the property is not mine.

It turns out the cleaning tip I really needed was a Swiffer Mop – not microfiber. Don’t get me wrong, I still firmly believe that a steam mop is an essential cleaning tool everyone needs (I use my steam cleaner in every room of the house in one way or another), but it does go to show that there are some things you should never steam clean in your home.

My verdict

I am not exaggerating when I say that this was one of the most satisfying cleaning moments I have ever witnessed, as those stubborn stains had been bothering me for almost two years in my rental home, so to see them stripped away so easily was gratifying, to say the least.

I would certainly go so far as to say the Swiffer PowerMop is now, in my estimation, one of the best ways to clean a bathroom floor. It helps that the cleaning solution smells amazing, helping to make a bathroom smell nice as I work.

My only complaint is that the pads are made to be disposable. I have mixed feelings about this as I attribute most of the success of this mop to the roughness of the pads (something that is likely hard to replicate in a product made to go in a washing machine).

However, it also means that I am creating waste when I clean (and I try to be sustainable at home and clean my home without harming the planet wherever I can), and I will have to spend more in the future to replace them.

It is a trade-off that is complicated to get around. There are anecdotes online of people being able to clean them and reuse them to some degree, which I am tempted to try and see if it is both worth the effort and how it affects performance, but I can’t speak to its efficiency yet.

Besides that, however, the mop is certainly one I will continue to enjoy using on the hard floors around my home, especially as it is safe for use on most hard surfaces, including cleaning real wood floors (so long as they have already been sealed).

I will never make the bathroom cleaning mistake of neglecting these grimy corners ever again after testing out this savior solution. Now I’ll have to give it a go cleaning a kitchen floor, too, after one of my infamously clumsy cooking sessions.
