Details like a sculpture in the corner and a painting on the wall add stylish artistic flair to the room.

'For one of my clients, a tall fiddle leaf fig in a black pot against a white wall became a striking focal point in the space.'

'In my last apartment, my bedroom was relatively small and had only one window – conventional wisdom would advise painting the walls a light color, but I embraced the coziness of the space and turned the room into a jewel box by painting it a deep navy blue,' she explains.

'I used a matte finish paint, which created the illusion of receding - to my eye, it looked like the walls were a bit farther away – which made the room feel a bit bigger in the end.'

How to master dark blue – inspired by Catherine Zeta-Jones's closet 

When decorating with blue (everywhere, not only our closet), Maxine says we should begin by considering our light levels. 

'If your room is east facing - so it gets light in the mornings but is dark at night, then dark blue is the perfect color choice because it will make the space feel warmer,' she comments. 

After investing in the best dark blue for your space, Maxine urges us to look beyond our walls – by drenching our woodwork, furniture, accessories, and our carpet (like Catherine demonstrates) in the same tone. And, if we're 'feeling brave', she also recommends painting our ceiling blue – though this is even bolder than the actress's space. 

When it comes to accessories and accents, Maxine says we can (unsurprisingly) learn a lot from Catherine's styling –starting with the gold finishes. She recommends choosing fixtures and fittings in brushed brass and gold drawer handles, like the actress', to create a quietly luxurious aesthetic in our space. It's on trend, daring, and of course, loved by Catherine Zeta-Jones.

'When designing our homes, we often forget the effectiveness of simply merging storage with the interior design scheme,' Peter adds – but with the right shelving, we can 'merge function with decoration' just as Catherine demonstrates.

Everybody's talking about Wednesday, Netflix's Addams Family spin-off directed by Tim Burton. Despite its release only last month, the series has already surpassed 1.02 billion total hours viewed – meaning it is the second most popular English-language series on the streaming service. 

Among those most associated with the show is Catherine Zeta-Jones, the Welsh-born (now New Yorker) actress who plays Wednesday's mother, Morticia Addams. It seems only fitting, therefore, that her holiday decor pays homage to her role – and the show's success.

My first memory of home… 

… was my mum and dad's house in Wales. Even though I've lived Stateside for 24 years, I still say Wales is my home. My mother loved soft furnishings, and I think that's where I got my passion for interior design. I remember the smell of the coziness of home, lots of family around, and lots of beautiful fabrics everywhere. My mother was a seamstress, and I would literally walk on pins she had dropped in the shag pile carpet. 

My quirky habit… 

...when I was 15, I had zero money and was touring around Britain in the production The Pajama Game, living in digs for 10 months. I would take my mother's fabrics and drape them over smelly couches and risk health and safety and drape them over lamps. I carried a bag of tricks called 'the Mary Poppins bag' – I still do. It has beautiful tapestries, and I take my own bed linen and pillows. Sometimes when I'm going to a fancy hotel, I think: 'Should I take them? No, Catherine, that's ridiculous.'

My favorite room...

... is our library in New York. It is a British-style wood-paneled 1920s library with a spiral staircase. I've collected British female portraiture from an auction, eBay, and a Welsh estate. There is a big old fireplace, mid-century furniture to mix the old with the new, and my Oscar for Chicago on the mantel, so when I get insecure, I can say. 'It's alright; it's alright!'.

I'm happiest when...

… [I'm] in my four walls that I created myself. It is eclectic and chic, and I can potter here for days. What has been difficult is I love to have people around. I'm not happy unless every room is filled with people. And that came from my childhood.  

I felt most at home when…

… My kids Dylan and Carys were little, and we were living in Bermuda. It was a completely different environment, but the consistency was reminiscent of the way I was brought up. Micheal or I would work, and the other would pick up the children from school. 

Their childhood memories are so wonderful: waking up and being at the beach, swimming in the ocean, climbing rocks and trees. I was young, I'd won an Oscar, it was before my husband's cancer, which was really traumatic for him and our family, so it was a golden time. And there was total privacy, which was paramount for us bringing up our children. We have great fond memories of being there.

A wine cellar, five apartments, two cottages, multimedia lounge, a spa and arresting views are just a few of the features in Michael Douglas’s Mallorca impressive estate.

The palatial property also has a rich history – completely private on its almost 200 acres spanning the mountains to the sea, S’Estaca was purchased by Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Habsburg in 1867.
