Hebe also notes this recent desire for more nostalgic prints. 'Recently, we have seen a resurgence in patterned seating, and the most stylish homes are ones that have character and are layered with color and pattern. Marissa Burrett, Lead Designer at DreamSofa believes that this isn't just a fleeting trend. 'Patterned upholstery is more than just a nostalgia wave and is definitely having a moment right now. People are becoming much more confident in their choices, choosing patterned sofas over neutral ones, and the ‘beige is timeless’ mindset is losing its grip.'

Choosing a couch is one thing, but styling it is another, and that's where the grandma chic trend brings a dated look into the modern era. 'Your grandmother’s three-piece suite was the whole room – everything matched and coordinated around it,' explains Marissa. 'But, the styling has completely changed over the years; now, one patterned sofa paired with solid and more grounded pieces works perfectly and looks beautiful.'

In the black-and-white image of Jane Fonda from 1981, the leafy sofa upholstery is paired with a simple leather chair, elegant lighting, and elegant drapery, which gives it a light touch. Marissa agrees that this look is still relevant today. 'A graphic botanical sofa sitting alongside a cognac leather chair brings an editorial quality that stops the look from feeling too country cottage. While a delicate floral sofa with soft pooling linen drapery in oatmeal or warm white works wonderfully too; the drapery echoes the softness of the print without fighting it for attention,' she advises.

While the choices are endless when it comes to the style of print – from bold and graphic to botanical and leafy or ditsy and floral – the one key rule that Marissa advises is: 'if your sofa has a pattern, everything else should be solid. A plain-color rug, with the same shade throw pillows, and a bunch of thoughtful accessories are all that's needed.'

Andrew Seed, interior design expert at luxury bedding retailer The Odd Company explains: 'Orange is making a major comeback in interiors, adding warmth and personality to bedrooms. From burnt terracotta walls to vibrant accent furniture, this trend is all about bold, cheerful colors.'

When boucle started trending in the mid-20s, I was obsessed with the look. I loved its wooly texture, its loopy appearance, and the curved furniture it upholstered. Almost ten years later, I've seen thousands of boucle chairs, sofas, and ottomans, and I'll admit, I started to grow a bit bored. That is until I saw Jane Fonda's take on the style.

The actress debuted her boucle living room sofa in a recent Instagram post, singing the praises of another controversial design trend, Sneex. She is sprawled across a rectangular, cream-colored boucle sofa with a gray decorative pillow behind her. A rounded wooden coffee table and circular wooden side table introduce a contrasting shape and rustic material. Behind the sofa, her blue-gray walls echo the green-gray accents in her geometric rug.

After analyzing the picture, I discovered the primary way Fonda refreshes the living room furniture trend is by pairing it with natural wood. Kanika Khurana, principal designer at San-Francisco-Bay-based Kanika Design, explains: 'For me, the magic of a boucle sofa paired with natural wood lies in the balance of textures. Boucle, with its soft, looped fabric, introduces a tactile warmth that feels luxurious yet approachable.'

We've also revisited Jane Fonda's living room a year later, and while her bouclé couch is still timeless, it's the blue walls that we are loving in 2025.

This pairing goes a long way in making the trendy material appear timeless. She continues, 'When combined with natural wood, which brings in an earthy, organic element, the result is a space that feels both cozy and sophisticated. This combination resonates with various design styles such as mid-century modern decor, Scandinavian, or even bohemian—making it a versatile choice that can evolve with changing trends without losing its charm.'

Fonda's deep blue walls also stand out to me. This living room color contrasts the cream of the sofa, making it look more modern and interesting. To recreate the look, Khurana recommends: ' To elevate a cream boucle sofa, I love the idea of bold, colorful walls. A deep burgundy or a rich mustard yellow can create a stunning backdrop that makes the sofa pop. These colors not only add vibrancy but also set an inviting tone for the space.'

She adds: 'If you're hesitant about going too bold, consider using a jewel tone. Think sapphire or emerald that can bring a sense of sophistication while allowing the boucle’s texture to shine. Adding art pieces or decorative mirrors can further enhance the visual interest and reflect the colors beautifully.' These pairings elevate the fabric trend for a fresh, original feel.

If you're wondering 'what's replacing boucle?' the answer is boucle with more accessories. To create your own fresh spin on the look, Khurana advises: 'When it comes to styling your boucle sofa, start by considering the layers. I recommend incorporating a mix of pillows in various shapes and fabrics, such as silk, wool, or even a bit of leather for contrast. This layering not only adds depth but also invites comfort.'

The other furniture is just as important to remaking the style timeless. 'Next, think about your coffee table,' says Khurana. 'Choose one with clean lines and perhaps a natural wood finish to echo the sofa’s elegance. You can add a soft, textured table runner or a stack of art books to introduce personality. For additional charm, consider using an oversized throw blanket draped casually over the arm of the sofa. This adds both comfort and style, making the space feel lived-in.

She concludes: 'Lastly, don’t forget about lighting. A sculptural floor lamp or a pair of modern table lamps can highlight the sofa while providing ambient light that enhances the overall atmosphere.'

With the proper styling, boucle will always be a calming, timeless look.

It's the trend that's united bookworms and interior design lovers alike; 'bookshelf wealth' has taken the internet by storm, and we can't get enough of seeing how celebs style their own shelves. 

Actor, activist, and overall icon Jane Fonda unsurprisingly has an excellent display shelf in her home, comprised of a built-in, wall-to-wall wood unit packed with both old and new reads that celebrate bookshelf wealth in all its glory.

'Be authentic! If you want to embrace the design trend, dig out the treasured books and objects you’ve amassed over the years, which each carry memories that resonate with you,' he says. 'Proudly curate these items on a shelf to authentically express your personality and interests.'

This trend is also highly customizable; organizing books by color is an ever-popular strategy, but sorting by theme is an intricate alternative, bound to draw visitors to spend time with the shelf. Shelves themselves come in a range of sizes and finishes; go with wood for a classic look, or white for a modern, minimalist vibe.

'Lovers of gold accents, warm wood tones, and cream rejoice! Warm hues will continue to dominate over cooler color palettes in 2023,' Anne says.

The designer speaks of a new wave of minimalism – in a more sophisticated and homier manner than we’ve seen previously – and the colors seen in Jane Fonda's home complement the emerging color trend perfectly. 'Warm wood tones and natural textures will become a feature of themselves without compromising the simplicity and cleanliness of minimalist styles,' Anne says. 

These colors are not the only on-trend feature seen in Jane Fonda's landing, however. The arches, best seen on the second slide in the photo carousel (above) are equally as noteworthy, according to Anne. 

Rounded furniture made a big debut in 2022, but this year will take curvature to the next level by bringing back archways.

'Archways can help soften living spaces and help ease the transition from room to room in a way that feels organic. They’re also fabulous for creating the illusion of taller ceilings by drawing attention to the height of walls,' Anne says.

'If you’re not prepared to swap out your existing doorways, painted arches can create the same effect without the commitment or expense. Make a statement with a pop of color, or opt for more muted tones to achieve subtle elegance.'

1. The Royal Family 

Every year a stunning 20ft Norwegian Spruce tree, taken from the grounds of Windsor Great Park, is erected in the historic St George’s Hall, and this year is no exception. 

The tree was dressed with 3,000 lights, and decorated with regal red and gold mirrored ornaments. Topped with a lovely Angel dressed in a gold dress and red velvet robe.

2. Rob Lowe

Actor Rob Lowe posted this rather adorable photo of his dashing dogs, all dressed up for Christmas. Oh – and the Christmas tree – decorated in shimmering touches of gold and silver looks pretty good, too.

3. Joan Collins

Dame Joan Collins didn't waste any time with getting ready for the festivities. The English actress, author and columnist started decorating as early as the beginning of November.

An extravagant Christmas tree topper will never go out of style. This heavenly angel is just so eye-catching. 

But, if there was ever a competition to see who can fit the most baubles on a tree – we think Jane Fonda is a shoo-in for the win.

Christmas just isn't Christmas without a garland draped across the fireplace, and it looks like Kendall Jenner is in agreement.
