Bouclé is the textural trend that has taken living rooms by storm, bringing a soft and cozy element to architecturally stark or linear spaces, but have we had too much of a good thing? Since seeing this image of Jessica Alba's chic and inviting living room, I can safely say I'm still hooked on bouclé. Her pair of cream accent chairs is the soft and tactile addition needed to lighten and elevate her otherwise rustic scheme, and I want to sink right in.

Adding two ivory boucle swivel chairs immediately softened the space and made the room feel layered rather than heavy.'

Interestingly, just like in Jessica Alba's home, you'll usually find boucle chairs in neutral ivory or beige tones, as opposed to bright hues, but rather than being a sign that we should be decorating with cream, it's a very intentional move by designers. Bruce Tucker, Co-Founder, Octane Seating elaborates: 'A bouclé chair creates impact through surface and form rather than relying on bold color, and the looped, nubby yarn gives a lively play of light and shadow, so even soft tones look rich and considered at different times of day. That makes it feel like a focal point without visually shouting, which suits the current preference for calm interiors where comfort still looks intentional.'

Boucle also offers a wonderfully relaxed alternative to luxe materials, whilst still feeling chic. James Fung, principal of NB Design Group in Seattle says: 'We like to use boucle chairs in our projects when we are looking to add subtle contrast and texture whilst still feeling casual, unlike mohair or velvet that can at times feel very formal.'

As for the shape, Jessica Alba's statement boucle chairs feature an organic and enveloping profile that signifies comfort. Bruce explains why using curves in interior design like this works so well. 'Curved silhouettes and bouclé work together because they communicate the same message of softness and ease. From a layout point of view, organic forms help circulation because they soften the sightlines that come from the rectangles that most rooms already contain, such as rugs, sofas, tables, and cabinetry.'

'The trend is sticking around because it's so adaptable. Bouclé can lean contemporary in a pared-back space, yet it also sits comfortably alongside more traditional architecture and mixed periods.'

To recreate the look, Troy suggests, 'Choose furniture whose wood grain is visible and that has a matte finish-no high gloss, please. Find a substantial table with thick legs and an organic, slightly rounded edge. Then, 'Add a hand-knotted or low pile rug in soft, muted tones like dusty rose, cream, and taupe. The rug should be large enough that when the dining chairs are pulled out, they remain completely on the rug.'

To finish off the look, Troy suggests, 'Instead of a fancy chandelier, simple candles or modern pendants with a matte finish work beautifully. Carlin suggests a stylish solution for reaching those high spots: 'Installing a chic, sliding librarian ladder can be a cool way to access these taller shelves while adding a chicness to the design of your kitchen.' The darker the tone, the more light it will absorb,’ says Justyna Korczynska, color expert and designer at Crown Paints. ‘At the extremes, white will make a room look more spacious, and black brings the walls visually inwards. This rule applies to all colors. So a pale gray is ideal if you want to make a small kitchen look bigger; a deep charcoal would make it appear smaller.

The pitfall isn't limited to her clients. Seth inquires if Alba falls into this same pattern. He states: 'Would you, hypothetically, have irrational connections to things?'. Alba jokes: 'My husband says that I am kind of a hoarder, even though I'm not. He's like, "Just because it's organized doesn't make you less of a hoarder."' No matter who you are, it's difficult to make letting go easier.

This idea of 'organized hoarding' presents an interesting complication to the binary between those who are organized and decluttered and those who are messy in their homes. Just because everything has a place doesn't mean there isn't room to get rid of a few things from the house.

'We are seeing the trend of clients painting the exterior of the home with and pairing it with a stark contrast of by adding black trimmed windows and black front doors to significantly enhance a home's curb appeal and potentially increase its value,' Terrigno comments.

'It adds a touch of elegance and sophistication, often creating a strong, welcoming focal point with a fresh look. We see daily how these small aesthetic touches can truly change the home's curb appeal and lead to properties selling for higher prices compared to other colors, as they tend to convey a sense of luxury and style.'

As mentioned, Alba has painted her entire home's exterior in an elegant black hue, but keeping the rest of our home lighter won't harm our curb appeal. In fact, Abid explains that this contrast can only improve our home's appeal to potential buyers.

'A dark front door contrasts beautifully with lighter-colored exteriors to give a more inviting and noticeable entrance,' he says.

'Following this research was another study, this time on how homes with black or charcoal gray doors sell more on average with $6,271. It also picks up dirt and wears much slower than lighter colors, which means that it will still look good much longer and will require less maintenance.'

Even in this small bathroom, we see two different styles of beautiful blue tiles. Lichtenstein continues, 'This diversity allows for endless creativity and customization in bathroom design.'

Lichtenstein tells Homes & Gardens, 'The use of blue tiled walls in bathrooms is gaining popularity and is poised to become a lasting trend. Blue is a classic color choice that transcends fads. Its association with water and nature makes it a perennial favorite for bathroom decor. As interior design trends shift towards more serene and spa-like bathroom environments, the calming effect of blue tiled walls aligns perfectly with this aesthetic direction.'

'There has been a growing 'world traveler' trend design – bringing far away shores into our homes,' Grazzie comments. 'There isn't a particular country that tops the list, which makes it feel much more free-spirited, and these tiles are one way to bring faraway shores into your own home.'

Jessica has brought these tiles to life in her kitchen, but Grazzie explains that the 'world traveler' look is just as impactful in the bathroom. We can experiment with our wall tiles, but she explains that we should allow our floors to take center stage.

'The warming undertones of pink beige are particularly suited to north- or west-facing rooms, which typically see less light,' advises Jane Rockett, co-founder of Rockett St George. 'In these spaces, cooling tones of crips white, light blue, and bright green can feel impersonal and color.'

With its clear ties to the natural world, pink beige is used for painting accent walls and brightening a living space with splashes of color that symbolize and promote health and vitality. 

‘Due to its close relationship with orange and brown shades, the color is mood-boosting without becoming overwhelming like many red shades. On the other hand, with more muted and subtle tones, pink beige can become a good choice to enhance quiet confidence and serenity,’ enthuses Sarah Lloyd, senior brand manager at Valspar.

Ruth Motteshead, creative director at Little Greene, agrees that softer pink-beige hues can act as a neutral base for any decorating projects. ‘They are reminiscent of natural plaster shades, with earthy undertones that add warmth to a space to provide a color highlight or act as a neutral base for introducing bolder colors.’ 

If you are looking for color contrast, Andy Greenall, creative director at Paint & Paper Library suggests ‘contrasting pink-beige shades with teals, cool whites, darker blues and greys. Or add natural finishes and combine with warmer neutrals for a sumptuous feel.’

Mastering an effective storage system in our kitchen and pantry is something we've all (at least tried) to achieve, and it would seem that even Hollywood's elite aren't immune from this task.

Actress Jessica Alba shared a look into her parent's organized pantry that recently underwent a transformation courtesy of HOME + SORT and mDesign (the latter a favorite of H&G's after they paired up with celebrated designer Nate Berkus). 

However, while we confess we sometimes find organizing somewhat tedious, Jessica explains that she feels more excited about the process. And we suspect it has something to do with this refreshingly simple organization system. 

'The way an organized space gets me going! To say I’m all about organizational systems, deep cleans, containment – all the things – is an understatement,' Jessica says.

But where does the actress get her enthusiasm for tidiness from? Not her parents, according to her. 

'When moving my parents into their new house, I realized I may not have gotten that obsession from them. Mom and Dad, I love you – but y’all ain’t the most organized! In your new digs, though, there’s no excuse – HOME + SORT and mDesign came through and totally freaked it!'

In the pantry, Jessica is pictured alongside her parents' extensive coffee and tea collection, all of which are stored neatly in mDesign's famous transparent containers. 

'Between the space maximization, systems in place, labels showing exactly where everything goes, beautiful containment, zero clutter – it feels like my Pinterest mood board dreams came to life.'

Beyond the kitchen, mDesign products are seen in various points around Jessica's parents' home, including the laundry room and a makeup drawer. However, we can't help but note that the pantry is our favorite space in the home. 

So, what is the secret behind this tidy space? As mentioned, the room uses a combination of mDesign's best-loved products – many of which are designed and approved by Nate Berkus. These clear, easy-accessible pieces allow us to keep track of exactly what's in our pantry (or kitchen), meaning we don't overbuy – and can find things with ease. 

Jessica is seen next to the Nate-designed transparent bin and the adjustable drawer organizer that keeps their tea collection in check. In the 5th slide, we also spotted a handy turntable rack, similar to the mDesign model we found below. These organizers have a habit of selling out (we learned this the hard way from past experience), so we're making the investment now.  

The only thing we love more than zellige tiles is when they are paired with an iconic Farrow & Ball shade – as is the case in Jessica Alba's kitchen. 

The actress, best known for Into the Blue, Honey, and Mechanic: Resurrection – shared a look inside her Los Angeles kitchen – a bright white space with pockets of a gray-blue hue, otherwise known as Down Pipe by the aforementioned paint powerhouse. 

The tone (described as a 'dark lead gray' with 'definite blue undertones') is already known to be a favorite among celebrities – with Hollywood counterpart Stanley Tucci recently sharing that he has the same kitchen color in his London home. However, it is Jessica Alba's pairing with her white Zellige tiles that gets design experts really excited. 

When it comes to timeless (but nonetheless trending) kitchen tiles, you could do far worse than investing in Zellige – meaning 'little polished stone' in Arabic. These tiles are characterized by their glazed, irregular surfaces that are often used to create mosaics with geometric patterns. 

Zellige tiles have existed since the 10th century but have recently become a firm favorite bathroom and kitchen trend – and after seeing Jessica Alba's space – it's easy to see why. 

 The actress has paired her tiles with off-white marble kitchen countertops and the celebrated gray-blue cabinetry; however, the team at Baked Tiles suggests that Zellige works well alongside rustic furnishings and metal accents, too. 

'Currently, there is a move towards a more earthy Moroccan look with traditional products such as Terracotta, Bejmat, and Zellige tiles being used as a backdrop to rustic furniture and natural fabrics, punctuated with aged metal accents,' they say.

Feras Irikat, an expert from Lunada Bay Tile, mirrors these sentiments – adding that rustic-style tiles (including Zellige) are a worthwhile investment that will accentuate any size or style of kitchen.

'Tile is having a moment. And why shouldn't it? Tile has been an integral element in design for thousands of years in most parts of the world, coveted for its beauty and durability and as a material for artisans to create interior works of art. Today, we are reaping the rewards of tile's rich legacy,' Feras says. 

And, of course, Jessica Alba's Zellige splashback did not go unnoticed. 'Using tiles as a kitchen splashback is an exquisite way of displaying and accentuating their pattern, texture, and glaze,' Feras adds. '[They] are beautiful pieces of art on their own and have the power to utterly transform a room.'

Is our future kitchen rooted in the 10th century? Thanks to Jessica, we're inclined to believe so.
