Color and furniture are crucial to creating a living room that works for your home, but arguably, your chosen layout is just as imperative. Just as Lewis Hamilton, whose Tribeca apartment serves as the ultimate open-plan living blueprint. I first saw this space back in December 2024, and now, over a year later, it remains one of the smartest layouts I've seen in any celebrity home.

When open-plan living room ideas are not well planned, the space can feel overwhelming, with the cooking and living areas blending into one. However, with distinct 'zones' (as shown in Lewis Hamilton's home), you are left with the feeling of separate rooms, without walls.

In Lewis's case, he uses two gray armchairs to create a conversational seating arrangement that's perfect for socializing. Meanwhile, a large area rug acts as a boundary in the 'dining room' that flows from the kitchen. It's perfect for those who love to host – allowing conversations to continue while cooking.

When it comes to living room layout ideas that feel social but simultaneously private (even without walls), this space is the perfect starting point.

A post shared by Evan Joseph (@evanjosephphoto)

A photo posted by on

Shop Lewis's Look

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/7BGXbHNofUv34KnCD6psNb.jpg" alt="Lexicon New Castle Velvet Accent Chair, 27.5" W, Dark Gray">Retro style

Lexicon New Castle Velvet Accent Chair

Inspired by the chair in Lewis's space, this piece features dark gray velvet upholstery paired with a solid show wood frame in a rich dark walnut finish. It's no surprise, then, that designers are seeing this layout continuing to gain popularity, despite the contrasting interest in broken-plan living rooms.

'Open-plan living is still very much growing in popularity, although having more divided areas within these open spaces is trending more recently,' comments designer Molly Chandler. Many people often start with their kitchen, but as Molly (and Lewis) remind us, the living room is just as important.

'We’re seeing more neutral schemes within the kitchen and a more cozy, moody color palette for the living area, often labelled as a “snug” now. In order to create this, people building new properties are opting for short walls to be built out within these spaces to create obvious divides between the social space and wind-down area,' she says.

'Using height is also becoming popular again, such as 2 or 3 steps guiding you down into the living space. This still allows for a light, airy home, but creates an obvious divide between each zone.'

Lastly, we should consider how to use a lack of wall space to our advantage (and ensure we have some more private areas).

'Open-plan rooms can often lack wall space, so short wall dividers can be really helpful to create a little more separation, whilst not removing too much light. Whether these are built out from the wall, or a partition feature made from wood slats or fabric, these can create a nice feature and are useful for practical extra space,' Molly says.

Ultimately, Lewis's living room shows that a well-designed open-plan space relies on clear layout choices. By using furniture and rugs, his space feels organized, comfortable, and easy to entertain in. It’s a practical reminder that when an area has a clear purpose, even open-plan living can feel both social and suitably private.

As a celebrity style editor, I see hundreds of celebrity kitchens every year, but some resonate long after the first glance. One such space is Lewis Hamilton’s black-and-white kitchen, which brings a time-honored color palette to life with his strategic injection of warm metals.

While this color palette can risk feeling stark and (sometimes) uninspired, Lewis's space feels warm, well-designed, and sophisticated – and gold is his secret. While some kitchen hardware trends come and go, Lewis's space has felt quietly luxurious for nearly two years, making a case for gold in a way that doesn't feel overtly audacious.

The gold hardware, seen in his kitchen lighting (like this pendant from Wayfair), and the detailing against his dark cabinets.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Shop the Gold Kitchen Edit

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Adjustable Length

Willa Arlo Interiors Lesher Single Bell Pendant

This pendant blends vintage-inspired style with functional design, featuring a steel frame and a glass bell shade that softly diffuses light. However, as design experts explain, Lewis's look is about to be more on-trend than ever for 2026. This is thanks to the modern Art Deco resurgence.

Pinterest searches for Art Deco interiors have increased by 805%, and 1920s-style kitchens by 494%, indicating that vintage kitchen glamour is set to be a significant trend for the year ahead. Incorporating metallic finishes is one of the easiest, chicest ways to introduce this aesthetic.

'For many homeowners, Art Deco is appealing because it blends nostalgia with refinement,' comments David Balko, a kitchen expert at Wren. 'Gold hardware is overtaking silver, and natural woods are becoming the canvas for that Deco warmth. It’s elegant, but very liveable.'

To take this look even further, he recommends pairing angular or curved gemorteic shapes with warm metallics – bringing a timeless feel to cooking spaces, making them both stylish and functional. If there's ever a time to follow Lewis's example, it's right now.

Do you prefer white lights or colorful lights on your Christmas tree? This festive, binary question has long been a staple of holiday quizzes, but what if there were a third, potentially better, option? Lewis Hamilton's blue-lit Christmas tree makes this possibility a sparkling reality this winter.

The F1 driver recently took to Instagram to showcase his charming Christmas decor, featuring a magnificent 10-foot-tall tree pointing toward his ceiling. The tree is adorned with beads hanging from branches, traditional red and silver baubles, stuffed animals, and – most notably – blue Christmas lights (like these from Amazon).

The overall look is classic, aside from this single, striking exception. Hamilton's choice of light color is an ideal match for his purple ottoman and gray walls, beautifully complementing the cool, neutral color scheme of his living room as the days get shorter.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Shop the look

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Indoor/Outdoor

Blue Christmas String Lights

These striking blue lights capture the look of Lewis Hamilton’s Christmas tree, creating a vivid contrast against the green of any tree. In recent years, we've noticed that celebs are leaning into decorating their trees based on the decor in their homes. For instance, people with more minimalist living rooms are going for more pared-back trees, while those who prefer a maximalist, very colorful tree are decorating their trees in a similar manner.'

She continues, 'Lewis Hamilton follows this trend by opting for a Christmas light idea that mixes well with the design of his space. The blue lights perfectly complement his purple ottoman, creating a striking, water-like reflection off his glass floor. They emphasize the beauty of the Scandinavian cream and wood room in his home. Rather than offering an entirely new scheme, it acts as an extension of what is already there.'

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

If you are thinking about updating your holiday decorating this year, integrating a single color of indoor Christmas lighting is a great place to start. It's ultra-affordable, with many string light options beginning under $20.

It allows you to stick to the beloved ornaments you have, while completely changing the look for the holiday season. It's also an incredibly versatile way to decorate, with seemingly endless colors to apply to your Christmas tree. I especially love the look of single colored lights on a faux, colorful tree. For instance, these blue lights would look so fabulous on a white or silver Christmas tree, evoking a winter wonderland feel.

For a more curated, minimalist version of Hamilton's tree, consider sticking to just one ornament color. An example would be using blue lights with exclusively silver baubles for an elegant, frost-kissed tree.

As usual, Lewis Hamilton's home is the perfect source for unexpected interior design inspiration. We can't wait to see this festive trend appear in more homes as the countdown to Christmas continues over the next month.

Dark kitchen cabinets have long been popular, and it's easy to understand their appeal. Painting your cabinetry in these deeply pigmented colors lends a sense of drama and boldness to the kitchen. However, to keep them feeling timeless, it's essential to balance these trendy shades with more classic, elevated design details.

F1 driver Lewis Hamilton's old money kitchen is a superb example of how to make dark green kitchen cabinets look sophisticated and luxurious, especially as we head into the richer color palettes of autumn and winter.

Hamilton's kitchen features dark green cabinets only on the lower half of the room. Above, white marble with streaks of reddish-gray veins extends up toward sleek upper cabinets.

The brass-toned cabinet pulls, oven, and extractor hood reflect the reddish hues in the marble. This introduces a pinkish light that beautifully contrasts with the gorgeous forest green cabinets, reminiscent of an evergreen forest set against a soft morning glow.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Shop the forest green kitchen edit

Following Lewis's lead doesn't have to involve picking up the paintbrush. This style is all about timeless, effortless opulence, favoring high-end finishes that look natural and understated.

Natural materials like brass and marble are hallmarks of this look and are expertly utilized in this space, bringing an earthy warmth that feels perfect for the changing seasons.

Megan Slack, the head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens, states: 'In the celebrity homes we look at, there has been an increased emphasis on timelessness over the past few years. While celebs are interested in the latest interior design trends and how to incorporate them into their homes, they're simultaneously keen to ensure their features last long after the trend cycle has moved on.'

She continues, 'Lewis Hamilton's kitchen layout is a great example of taking one trendy element, like forest green paint, and grounding it amongst timeless details. I think a huge part of why this color looks so elevated in the driver's space is that he has chosen to use it only on the lower cabinets. Not only does this choice allow the marble on the backsplash to shine on its own, but it also offsets the depth of the color.

When juxtaposed with the bright white of the upper half of the kitchen, the forest green cabinets look all the more dramatic and bold, but in an understated way.'

To style this kitchen cabinet color in your own home, focus on balance. Instead of fully committing to a dark look, ensure you incorporate plenty of light elements.

White countertops, light-wash wood floors, or upper cabinets with reflective glass are all excellent choices. To make the kitchen cabinet trend last long-term, incorporate natural, earthy elements. Wood, marble, and natural metals add uniqueness and warmth to the dark, moody shade, making it a staple far beyond the current season.

Would you try this bold, balanced look in your kitchen?

Working on Homes & Gardens' celebrity style desk, it's certainly not uncommon to find some uniting threads between the ways notable figures decorate.

I love it when I see a common theme between celebrities, whether that's through kitchen cabinet colors or candles in their bedrooms, but the one thing I enjoy even more is when I see something that's entirely unique – as is the case with Lewis Hamilton's juke box.

While Lewis is in the news for co-chairing the Met Gala, I took another look through his Instagram, in which I came across a corner of his living room decorated with a retro-style juke box, unlike any I've ever seen before. A deeper look at the accessory suggests it's a 'Rock-Ola 440 Jukebox,' originating in the late '60s. Its charming design ensured it was a popular model when it first launched, but I would argue it looks even better in a modern home today.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Shop the look

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Stunning chrome finish

Wurlitzer One More Time

Revered simultaneously by aficionados of both vintage and contemporary music, this model, reissued perfectly as the second generation from the iconic 1946 Wurlitzer 1015 produced in the United States.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.05%';>Affordable Alternative

Wockoder Vinyl Record Player

A vinyl record player is a must-have if you wish to replicate the good vibes of Lewis's living room. To make it easier, Sami Jalili, the co-founder and designer at Arcola Studio, walked me through the process.

'Antique furniture and objects have that capacity to transport us and feed our imaginations. They also tell of times when things were done differently; crafts and skills that today aren’t sustainable, at least outside of highly bespoke and costly production methods. While the world is pulled one way and another, antiques stand as markers of a beautiful, certain past,' he says.

'When placed alongside pieces from our own time, magical conversations can occur. As a studio, we often tend towards introducing strong, heavy volumes into spaces and creating bespoke furniture that extends and amplifies our interior architectural choices. Introducing antique pieces into this context adds so much in terms of texture, layering, and often moments of surprise.'

When choosing antiques to introduce to your living room (or any space, for that matter), you should pick the pieces that spark a reaction in you. If you like music (which, I imagine, Lewis does), then opting for a juke box or vinyl player is the perfect choice. However, the opportunities are endless, depending on what you love the most.

'When designing spaces for clients, we are trying to create an extension of themselves in some way, to give them homes that can truly and uniquely be considered theirs,' Sami adds.

'When we include antiques in projects, we are asking those clients to become custodians of those pieces, and to continue their histories.' What more could I hope for a piece of furniture than that?

It's finally here: patio season has arrived, and with it, we have been looking for sources of inspiration for furniture and accessory upgrades.

Lewis Hamilton has provided us with some patio ideas thanks to an Instagram post showing off his set-up. The focal point? A gray outdoor sofa, which looks as elegant as it does comfortable.

While gray may be considered outdated or uninspiring to some, we believe it can serve as a fantastic, neutral base in an outdoor area, especially if styled well. Such is the case on Lewis Hamilton's patio, which, I admit, changed my perspective on this 'overdone' neutral. I didn't expect gray to look as modern as it does in his shot, but his outdoor furniture is indisputably contemporary and oh-so cool.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Shop the gray outdoor furniture edit

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Removable cushion covers

Outdoor Aluminum Loveseat

Perfect for relaxing long into the evening, this your go-to for cozy outdoor seating with a friend (or a good book). 'Whether you’re aiming for modern minimalism, classic elegance, or cozy comfort, gray offers a timeless foundation that allows your personal style to shine through.'

A key aspect of styling gray furniture is pairing it with complementary colors. We can see that Lewis has opted for some cream throw pillows, which complement the dark sofa beautifully.

'For a crisp, clean look, pair gray with white,' Nina suggests. 'This combination is timeless and fresh, perfect for modern and minimalist aesthetics. White accents can include trim, furniture, and accessories, enhancing the clarity and brightness of the space.'

Alternatively, green is a great accent color in an outdoor space, whether your patio is urban or rural.

'Gray and green together bring a natural, organic feel to a space,' Nina says. 'Sage or olive green complements gray’s muted tones, creating a harmonious and refreshing environment. This pairing works well in living rooms, home offices, and any space where you want to incorporate nature-inspired tranquility.'

Finally, for those who are looking to create a bolder backyard setting, consider the tried and true pairing of gray and black.

'For a bold and dramatic statement, combine gray with black,' Nina says. 'This sophisticated duo adds depth and modernity, perfect for contemporary spaces. Use black accents sparingly to maintain balance and avoid overwhelming the room.'

Relaxing yet chic, gray is the perfect color to choose when furnishing a patio.

Anyone who is a follower of F1 may already be aware of the news: Lewis Hamilton has left his long-time seat at Mercedes-Benz and signed a deal with Ferrari. With his new car comes a new home – the latter of which happens to be one of the most iconic residences in Modena, belonging to Enzo Ferrari, no less.

Hamilton, winner of seven championship titles, is only the second driver to uphold the honor (Michael Schumacher was the first driver to live in the residence during his Ferrari contract). Fittingly, Hamilton and Schumacher are similarly tied for the most driver championships in F1 history, a tie Hamilton is looking to break later this year.

As one might expect, the home is a trove of timeless Italian decor trends, from the antique furnishings to the exposed wooden beams on the ceiling. However, in true Ferrari style, the interiors come with a bold twist.

The second and third slides in the photo carousel below show how the brand's signature hue creates vibrant accents around the otherwise neutral spaces. There is a bright red table, along with Ferrari artwork, seen in a space that could pass as a dining room – while the living space has retro-style light and upholstered orange chairs. The result is cozy but contemporary and, as expected, a true homage to the brand.

A post shared by Tony Qian (@tony__qian)

A photo posted by on

Meanwhile, the home's exterior is just as quintessential (and continues to pay tribute to Ferrari). With a stucco and brick exterior and tiled roof shingles, the classic facade celebrates the brand's commitment to design. The signature red is seen, once again, on both the front door and the window shutters, while the yellow flag hangs in the center of the property.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

'There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever, and today, my first as a Scuderia Ferrari HP driver, is one of those days. I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career [that] I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realize that dream today,' Hamilton shared upon his arrival in Maranello on January 20th.

'I’m incredibly grateful to John Elkann, Benedetto Vigna, Fred Vasseur, and everyone at Ferrari for their trust in me and for making me part of this family. I’m so excited to start this new era and to meet and work with a hugely talented and inspiring group of people. I’m dedicated to bringing everything I have to deliver for the team, the wider organisation and the fans.
Layout is everything. The layout of your home, your furniture, even the accessories in your space can completely change the way they are perceived and how you feel in your house. Lewis Hamilton figured out the perfect way to do it.

The F1 driver's former Tribeca penthouse features an open plan living room layout that stretches towards his dining room and kitchen. Wooden beams stretching from the ceiling demarcate zones throughout the room, and lead to the open staircase. The design between the living room and dining room is similar, creating a cohesive feel.

Though the beauty of the living room layout is easy to see, the perks of Hamilton's living room layout go beyond aesthetics. Interior designer Nicholas Kaiko states: 'An open concept layout has become a staple of contemporary interior design, and for good reason. This design approach offers several practical benefits. First, increased natural light. With fewer walls to block sunlight, open layouts allow natural light to flow throughout the space, making it feel more inviting and spacious. This is particularly useful in spaces with large windows or glass doors, as seen here.'

A post shared by Evan Joseph (@evanjosephphoto)

A photo posted by on

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Extra Storage

Solid Wood Side Table

This accessibly priced side table is perfect for adding a touch of warm wood and storage to your living room

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Mid-Century Modern

Dark Elm Wood Chair

This dark elm chair is so stylish and effortless bringing intentionally designed flair into any room

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>Open and Modern

Mid-Century Wood Bookshelf

This sleek shelf provides ample space for displaying items, along with one closed drawer

Kaiko continues, 'Open concepts are perfect for entertaining spaces, allowing people in different parts of the space to interact. Without defined boundaries, you have greater flexibility in arranging furniture. This allows you to create different zones – such as a seating area, dining space or even a work nook. Removing walls creates a continuous flow, giving the impression of a much larger area.'

If you want to recreate the living room idea, a few easy rules will help your space to feel as cozy and lived-in as Hamilton's. Martin Waller, Founder of global design house Andrew Martin recommends: 'Open-plan spaces are increasingly popular and are great for entertaining, but can sometimes feel sparse or empty. Use contrasting colors to demarcate distinct spaces and inject personality into different areas of the room. Choose darker colors to create intimacy in a dining area and opt for neutral shades to make kitchens appear brighter. Wallpaper can also be used in certain areas of the space to create a distinct zone.'

Waller further recommends: 'Use statement lighting to create different zones, that each have a purpose. Hang pendant lighting over dining areas and use task lamps in corners of the room to create cozy areas for reading. Open furniture, such as cabinets, bookcases, or shelving, can create different zones without making the space feel closed in. Alternatively, a folding screen can provide privacy, often lacking in open plan living.'

Layout is everything, and Lewis Hamilton's living room is the living proof.

No color combination is quite as iconic as black-and-white, but sometimes, bringing it to life in design is complicated. Despite being known for its versatility, this pairing has a way of making a cold statement, especially in spaces where you might crave warmth and coziness. Chances of success begin by following the example of those who have gone before us, in this case, Lewis Hamilton, whose living room is the perfect example of a black-and-white color scheme done right.

In his former living room, the F1 star used bright white paint alongside deep black furniture (best seen in the first and second photos on the carousel below). He uses wooden architectural features to bring warmth to sections of the black-and-white living room alongside soft accents, such as an area rug and throw, bringing a cozier element to the living room color palette.

A post shared by Evan Joseph (@evanjosephphoto)

A photo posted by on

Hamilton's technique isn't lost on Priyanshi Jain, an architect and interior designer, who emphasizes the importance of lighting in such a space.

'All black furniture creates a dramatic and sophisticated living room, but it's necessary to balance out the boldness with elements that prevent the space from feeling dark and oppressive,' she begins.

'Maximize the entry of natural light by using sheer curtains or blinds. If you have limited natural light, consider adding a mirror to reflect existing light and build an illusion of space. Implement multiple lighting layers, including ambient, task, and accent lighting. Chandeliers, floor lamps, and table lamps add warmth and dimension to the space.'

Another lesson we can take from Hamilton's space? His use of textures. As mentioned, he uses rugs, throws, and various materials via his chairs (including leather in the dining room space). 'Introduce different textures to prevent the room from feeling flat. Incorporate elements such as velvet, leather, wool, and lenient in your furniture, accessories, and rugs. Bring in natural materials such as wood, plants, and stone to add warmth and contrast to the black furniture. A wooden coffee table or a large potted plant is effective,' Jain says.

(Image credit: Living with Lolo / Life Created)

Alongside paint, Jain recommends juxtaposing white (and cream) furnishings and artworks (the latter of which is seen in Hamilton's space). 'Create a striking contrast by implementing white elements such as a white rug, white artwork, or white curtains.
It's not uncommon for designers to discuss the color trends and furnishings that have the ability to transcend trends, but what about materials? Lewis Hamilton's former living space encourages us to think about the type of accents and materials that will look just as good in 100 years – and nothing leads this conversation like wood.

In his space, the F1 champion accentuated the home's wooden architectural features – starting with the exposed wooden beams, floating staircase, and the light wood flooring that flows through the room. The material's natural tones interrupt the primarily monochromatic color scheme, bringing warmth to the cool white paint tones and black furniture.

In a space like Hamilton's, accentuating the wooden tones is easy, considering how prominent these features are around the space. However, as designers explain, it's possible to incorporate wood with simpler methods, including furniture pieces and accessories.

A post shared by Evan Joseph (@evanjosephphoto)

A photo posted by on

'Using wood elements like beams, furniture, and accessories is a great way to infuse warmth and texture into a room. As well as strengthening connections to nature which can boost mood and overall well-being, rooms that incorporate wooden elements often feel inherently cosier because of the natural warmth and grounding effect wood brings,' comments Claire Garner, the director of Claire Garner Design Studio.

According to Garner, light woods, like pine and oak (similar to those seen in Hamilton's space), bring a 'soft, Scandinavian-inspired warmth' – meaning they're perfect for monochromatic schemes like the driver's. Meanwhile, darker woods like mahogany or walnut have a rich, cozier feel.

'Don’t be afraid to mix different wood finishes in the same space; this will create a more eclectic and interesting space,' Garner adds.

Plus, she is not alone in her observations. Katerina Tchevytchalova, the director of the interior design studio K'arte Design, recommends styling a room like Hamilton's –complementing rustic wooden accents with contemporary decorating features.

'What I love about bringing wood into projects is how it pairs with other natural materials and finishes. For example, using wood against fabrics like linens can create an eco-chic relaxing aesthetic that is perfect for bedrooms,' she says.
Dark kitchen cabinets have been trending since early 2023, and it's easy to see why. Painting cabinetry in these pigmented shades gives the kitchen a sense of drama and boldness. However, it's important to balance these trendy shades with elevated, classic design details to ground them.

F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton's forest green kitchen is a masterclass in how to make forest green cabinets look luxurious.

Hamilton's space features dark green kitchen cabinets only along the bottom of the room. On the top, white marble streaked with reddish gray veins stretches up towards elevated upper cabinets. His brassy-colored cabinet pulls, oven, and extractor hood reflect the red tones in the marble, bringing a pinkish light into the space that contrasts the gorgeous forest green cabinets.

Though the kitchen cabinet color is an interior design trend, Hamilton's expert styling makes it fit effortlessly into the quiet luxury or 'old money' design style. This type of design should look effortlessly opulent and timeless. It's about high-end finishes that don't feel like it's trying too hard. Natural materials like marble and brass are staples of the style and are expertly used in this space.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Megan Slack, the head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens, states: 'In the celebrity homes we look at, there has been an increased emphasis on timelessness over the past few years. While celebs are interested in the latest interior design trends and how to incorporate them into their homes, they're simultaneously keen to ensure their features prolong long after the trend cycle has moved on.'

Shop the Forest Green Kitchen Edit

Even if you don't repaint your cabinets, you can bring the drama of forest green to your space with kitchen styling.
Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton might be in the business of going fast, but his kitchen design is as slow and intentional as they come. Namely, his black-and-white color palette is utterly timeless.

Hamilton's kitchen features polished black floors and crisp white walls, ceilings, and cabinetry. Gorgeous brass pendant lights hang from the ceiling, echoed by the brass edging snaking around the cabinets. An entire wall of windows floods the space with natural light, and Hamilton's choice of glossy white paint bounces it throughout. The overall effect is to create an inviting but opulent mood.

'Lewis Hamilton's black and white kitchen is the epitome of modern luxury,' says Jennifer Ebert, interior design expert and digital editor at Homes & Gardens. She continues, 'Rather than using more "old-world" details like marble and intricate molding, Hamilton's designer has opted for clean lines and striking colors to create a contemporary luxe feel. The brass accents work well with the black and white paint to evoke this energy.'

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

The varied textures in the space make Hamilton's kitchen colors stand out all the more. Ebert says, 'The finishes in this space are expertly-chosen. Though the floors are black, their glossy finish makes it so they reflect light to keep the space bright. The white paint on the walls is equally reflective. None of the natural light streaming through the back windows goes to waste in this room.'

Furthermore, Hamilton's space strikes the perfect balance between a luxe look and a liveable look. Though the brass accents against the white harken a sense of quiet luxury, the wood floors and clean lines keep it from feeling cool and imposing. The brightness in the space also creates this sense of warmth.

Furthermore, the look is much more than a passing interior design trend. 'Though black and white color schemes have been in vogue for at least the last 40 years, they are not going anywhere,' says Ebert. To ensure that the darker shades do not overpower your space, our editors recommend a strong focus on lighting when installing a black kitchen. This means selecting ceiling or floor lamps that properly light the space, but it also means paying attention to where the windows are. Pairing black paint with an abundance of natural light gives the shade a warmer, cozier feel.

Lewis Hamilton's kitchen is on trend in 2024, and it will be just as fashionable in one hundred years.
Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to impeccable style. The Formula 1 driver wore an outfit inspired by the legacy of John Ystumllym, one of Britain's first Black gardeners, to the Met Gala 2024 fundraising event in New York. But beyond the driver's exceptional fashion sensibilities, his modern kitchen is equally delightful.

The best kitchen trends are those with staying power. One of the most successful examples of this in recent years has to be warm metals, we can't envisage the day will ever come when rich copper, brass, or rose gold lose their heartwarming appeal. High-shine finishes are causing a stir in the kitchen. There’s no disputing the attention-pulling powers
of a striking metallic shimmer.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

Pairing metallics, such as copper or gold, is proving popular in today's modern kitchen. Similarly, stainless steel options have been championed for hygiene reasons – and would be perfect in a chef's kitchen. There’s no greater example of how kitchen planning and interior design have become intertwined than with metal.

'Stainless steel is durable, low-maintenance and extremely hygienic, so it's the ideal material for our present times,' says Tom Edmonds, design director at Lewis Alderson. 'It can be made into large complicated pieces with sinks and drainers welded in, virtually eliminating joints where bacteria and dirt could accumulate.'

While it is more often associated with contemporary kitchens, stainless steel can prove a surprisingly good fit amid traditional cabinetry. 'In a classic kitchen, stainless steel lends a modern edge and, in time, will gain small swirl marks, which will settle into a lovely mellow patina that requires little fuss,' adds Tom.

Favored by chefs and keen cooks, Hamilton's kitchen is equipped for culinary adventures. ‘When choosing kitchen countertops, avoid materials that can scratch or stain easily,’ says Allison Lynch, senior design consultant at Roundhouse, which has made domestic kitchens for several chefs including Yotam Ottolenghi and Peter Gordon. ‘We’d recommend man-made composite stone, like quartz or sintered stone, or stainless steel surfaces that are industrial in style and very hygienic as well as easy to use. This eliminates the stress of staining, and hot pans can go directly on them, too.’

David Beckham is another celebrity who has wholeheartedly embraced the industrial aesthetic and practicalities of a professional cook's kitchen. Chef's kitchens are the ultimate luxury for any budding food enthusiast. Technological advances in kitchen design mean that creating a professional or gourmet kitchen – once reserved for the best restaurants – at home is even easier to achieve than before. If in doubt, start with steel.

Shop the metal kitchen edit

Test the water with a few key metal accessories and furnishings before completely redesigning your kitchen.
Mastering an effective storage system is beneficial in every part of the home, but no space is quite as key as the bedroom. Here, our decorating decisions, including our storage, directly influence our sleep quality, so it's important we look to the right people for inspiration. Thankfully for us, Lewis Hamilton has the answers.

The racing driver's vertical bedroom storage may be simple, but it's this quality that designers urge us to replicate the most.

'I am a huge fan of having discreet cabinets in your home, as they do not serve as decorative pieces; they are functional ones. Unless they are open, they should disappear into the background,' comments designer Jove Meyer. This is exactly the case in Lewis Hamilton's Monaco bedroom, where he's opted for sleek, handle-less cabinets that blend seamlessly into the back of his neutral space.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

'For minimal sleek designs, the goal is to have sameness and minimal distractions, so by having your cabinets be discreet, it allows the other moments of design to shine, which elevates a space and gives the eye a place to travel to,' Jove explains.

'When it comes to minimal design, it is about the absence of things, it is about celebrating negative space and almost starving the eye of clutter so when it finds something, it celebrates it and appreciates it more; this can only happen when cabinets are hidden.'

Discreet cabinets have their place in every room, but, as mentioned, minimalist bedrooms have a power that goes beyond their good looks. Sleep expert and owner of Bed Guru, Carl Walsh, explains the importance of a clutter-free bedroom, where these pared-back cabinets are the most beneficial.

'A messy and cluttered bedroom will not only affect how fast you fall asleep but the quality of your sleep. If every time you get into bed you're surrounded by mess and clutter this can distract you as you're trying to fall asleep, make you feel anxious or on edge, and lead to a bad night's sleep,' he comments.

(Image credit: John Lewis of Hungerford)

'It's recommended that your bedroom should have no clutter; there should only be items that help you sleep better.'

Alongside Lewis Hamilton-inspired storage, we should also invest in the best luxury bedding we can buy.
Lewis Hamilton may be known as a leader on the race track, but a glimpse inside his home shows he's a trendsetter in the design world, too. His home, or, more specifically, his living room, is a lesson in how to create the warm minimalist aesthetic that's dominating design trends.

Warm minimalism, categorized as one of 2023's most sought-after interior design trends, is admired for its soft neutral tones, textures, and harmonious organization system (meaning clutter is always out of sight).

The aesthetic is similar to traditional minimalist living rooms; only its earthier tones make the room feel warmer – creating an inviting but stylish space epitomized by the racing star.

From his retro rattan to his failsafe paint choices, we should all take notes on Lewis' space, and designer Stephanie Meyer agrees.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

'Warm minimalism is uncomplicated, clean, reminiscent of nature in its soft earthen tones, and approachable. The look is design-done-well: simple and effective, high-end but not overdone,' Stephanie comments.

'As the world feels like it is moving faster and maximal trends run parallel, this is the equal and opposite reaction that feels restrained but curated and composed.'

Tapping into this trend begins with a soft base (much like the off-white seen in Lewis' home). 'These warm white tones will envelop and give a serene glow to rooms looking to achieve openness and depth.' Stephanie recommends colors like Benjamin Moores's Olympic Mountains or Coastal Path, which are her go-to choices for a grounded, bright, warm glow.

Paint ideas aside, the choice of textures is equally influential. 'Choose monochromatic warm whites and muted organic tones to create a consistent look,' she says. 'Also, opt for a more textured rug (instead of a more fitted upholstery choice). The contrast and relationship created are key.'

The last step in achieving a warm minimalist space? Organizing your living room to perfection. This includes the art of decluttering, but as Stephanie explains, it's also about choosing furnishings that prioritize form as well as function.

'Warm minimalism reflects an alignment of form and function. Furniture choices are sculptural, and textural layering is employed to give subtle and tactile depth,' she says.

'You can also achieve this by decluttering and finding a way to store everything in an aesthetically pleasing way or hidden behind doors. The key design principle of design here is harmony, so taking out anything that doesn't visually belong is key.'

We're tapping our way into Lewis' space with these inspired picks below.

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Mansel Lattice Off White Rug

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

Chama Upholstered Sofa

<p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';>

La Terra Occasional Table

Warm minimalism may be one of the most popular design aesthetics of the year, but with its roots in smooth neutrals and versatile furnishings, we predict this trend is going to become a classic.

Formula One race driver Lewis Hamilton may be better known for his speed on the track and his fashion sense off-track, but it is his elegantly-decorated 'quiet luxury' living room, filled with sumptuous neutrals and textural details, that is giving us some serious design envy.

Decorating with a 'quiet luxury' or 'old money' aesthetic, using colors from the natural world, adds a gentle and soothing touch to interiors that can be layered with textures and tones to ebb and flow with the changing of the seasons.

In the living space below, Lewis Hamilton has mastered this popular interior design trend. Here's how to achieve the look in your own home.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

The power and beauty of a neutral room color palette to add warmth and elegance to a room should not be underestimated. Lewis Hamilton's living-cum-music room is testament to the everlasting, timeless elegance of a predominantly 'smart' neutral or beige space.

‘What we call a “smart neutral” has a pared-back aesthetic which is ideal for using alongside stronger colors, including terracotta and shades of brown,' says Rob Whitaker, creative director, Claybrook. In Hamilton's case, he uses plenty of timber to curate that feeling of warmth and comfort.

‘A neutral needs to be paired with other materials to sing: timber and marble work well. I also love teaming them with suede and woollen rugs,' says Charu Gandhi, founder and director, Elicyon. 'Ceramic, clay and colored glass are great for decorative elements.’

However, the biggest concern many people have with neutral spaces is accidently crafting a space that is devoid of character or soulless.

Deborah Bass, director of Base Interior suggests: ‘Using a neutral tone while avoiding a minimal or stark atmosphere is a delicate balancing act between the natural light, artificial lighting and the other textures and tones used throughout. Sampling on site, in various lights including artificial lighting, and at different times of day cannot be underestimated.’

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

There's plenty of debate as to how to define ‘neutral’ colors. We tend to think of them as tones such as white, beige, gray, ivory and khaki that don’t appear on the color wheel. In general, neutrals are calming and easy to use – they work with almost every other color, but it’s important to consider how pigments are affected by light.

‘The light in a room is key to deciding whether to choose warm or cool tones,’ says Ruth Mottershead of Little Greene. There is a difference between warm neutrals (with a green or yellow undertone), which work well in north-facing rooms as they bounce light around, and cool ones (with a bit of pink, violet or blue).

When decorating with neutrals, texture and layering are essential.
Lewis Hamilton is no stranger to impeccable style – and his design-savvy sensibilities extend far beyond his grace on the Formula One race track and fashion credentials on the red carpet. Hamilton's balcony garden is a masterclass in maximizing small space.

Yes, even the smallest outdoor space can become a beautifully designed garden. The key is to keep things simple and fuss-free. Limit landscaping materials, such as paving and decking, to no more than a couple of styles and select a pared-down color palette, just as Lewis Hamilton has done below.

Use the concept of the ‘slow reveal’, too. If you can’t see all of your garden at once, it creates a sense of space as you’re not sure what lies around the corner. A comfortable seating spot with a stunning vista, for example, gives a sense of calm and tranquility. This works in even the smallest of balcony spaces. Choose the right plant for the right place, so check how sunny or shady your garden is first. Then take advantage of vertical growing options to make more space for plants. A combination of structural evergreens and seasonal planting works well.

A post shared by Lewis Hamilton (@lewishamilton)

A photo posted by on

It is all about the smaller details, say garden designers and landscapers.

‘Every garden, no matter how small, can be turned into an asset,’ says John Wyer of Bowles & Wyer, who constructed the medal-winning Florence Nightingale Garden for Chelsea 2021. ‘In a smaller space, every millimeter counts. The garden needs to be practical in terms of how you want to use it, but also think about how it will look from adjacent windows as well as from within the garden itself.’ He also advises against trying to squeeze in too many ideas. Instead, take bold decisions using a ‘less is more’ approach. ‘Decide on a color scheme and stick to it and you’ll naturally have a more cohesive and impactful garden design,’ he says.

‘My focus in small gardens is to organize the space, utilizing levels, framing views, creating social seating options and making every single millimeter work,’ says Mandy Buckland of landscape design company Greencube. ‘Track the sun’s arc to optimize the best spots, screen any view spoilers and create focal points that draw the eye.'

The Balcony Gardener | $6.28 at Amazon

Discover how to make the most of your gardening plot, however confined, with Isabelle Palmer’s creative and inspiring projectsView Deal

(Image credit: Future / James Merrell)

Another wonderful way to enhance a small or balcony garden is with a living wall or vertical garden.

'A vertical garden makes green space accessible to the masses and as attention continues to turn to where our food comes from, we’re not hugely surprised that people are now thinking about what more their living walls can offer them,' says Matt Lindsay, general manager at Growing Revolution. 'With a fixture against an external wall or on a balcony, those in flats and other urban homes can reap the physical, mental and environmental rewards that gardening for production provides.'
