Plus, I grew up in Connecticut. It goes without saying that I have strong feelings about New England design.

In my efforts to spend as much time as possible in Vacationland over the years, I've stayed in dozens of Airbnbs, friends' homes, and bed and breakfasts ranging from the charmingly rustic to the scarringly kitsch – but no space better captures Northeast style than Martha Stewart's Skylands pantry. Located in Seal Harbor, Maine, her Duncan-Candler-designed estate is a celebration of the surrounding natural world. Equal parts beautiful and functional (as is the New England way of life), Skylands is full of thoughtful features.

Martha concludes: 'He fills each pot with Miracle-Gro [at Amazon] soil. He plants two per pot. As they develop, he will remove those that seem weak and unproductive. At 4 pm exactly, all the grow lights turn on as scheduled. I am so pleased with my vegetable greenhouse and how productive it is every year. All the smaller tools, such as these large combination wrenches, are also organized and hung over the workbench. Lastly, the floors are blown, power-washed, and left bare to dry for several hours.'

'To keep them looking their best, it is important to check their condition regularly, feed and water according to their needs, and repot those that have outgrown their current vessels. My head gardener, Ryan McCallister, has been repotting a group of Chinese money plants, Pilea peperomioides - low-maintenance perennials with interesting coin-shaped foliage.'

From there, she goes on to detail how exactly the repotting process should go, from signs that it's time to repot to the tools she uses.

'For repotting, Ryan uses Miracle-Gro Tropical Potting Mix [available at Amazon],' Martha states. 'It is packed with nutrients that feed for up to six months and includes lava rock for added drainage that tropical plants and the Pilea peperomioides need. He wets it down first, so it is more supportive for the plants.'

She then suggests filling the pot to the rim, dipping the plant into some water so it is hydrated, and then placing the plant at the same height it was at previously in the pot.

Then she brings the other strand of ribbon in the other direction, tying the opposing sides in the same way. 'Depending on the height of your ceiling or the distance from the floor that you want the chandelier to be hung, you can adjust the length of your ribbons, of course.'

Hanging her upper wreath, Martha attaches it to a hook. She explains, 'This gets put right onto an S hook (like this S Shaped Hooks Stainless Steel Metal Hangers from Amazon) and a carabiner latch (like this Stainless Steel Spring Snap Hook Carabiner from Amazon), so it hangs just like that. That's the beginning of our fabulous project.'

Martha continues, 'Now you add the second wreath (which has been tied with two 74" ribbons on four opposing sides.' Martha uses pre-lit wreaths 'so they look spectacular when illuminated', but you can use any style you desire. Now you attach the larger wreath to the S hook, hanging it beneath the smaller one.

'You can leave it like that if you want, but I will be embellishing with these amazing ornaments.' Pre-wiring them beforehand, Martha hangs them securely, 'you don't have to worry about them falling or breaking, you just twist the wires right onto the wreath form.'

For the final flourish, Martha adds a large bow, 'So, to make a beautiful puffy ribbon for the top of your lovely chandelier, I think a 14-inch wide bow would be effective.'

She adds, 'Insert the glass right down into the bottom of your apothecary jar and pour in the salt, instead of using artificial snow, just to cover the top of the glass. I want to be able to reach down and turn on my battery pack.'
