'The houses in The Holiday capture two dreamy yet contrasting styles: the cozy English countryside cottage and the sleek Los Angeles mansion,' explains Linda Hayslett of LH.Designs.

'Kate Winslet’s Rosehill Cottage is the epitome of rustic charm – quaint, intimate, and layered with textures that make you want to curl up with a cup of tea. It’s the kind of place that instantly feels like home, especially around the holidays.'

'On the other hand, Cameron Diaz’s modern L.A. home is open, minimal, and effortlessly chic, perfect for a getaway in the sun. 2. Hamptons Beach House, Something's Gotta Give

'Nancy Meyers has given us some iconic movie homes, but if I really had to choose, the house in Something’s Gotta Give is unforgettable,' Linda continues.

'The classic Hamptons-style beach house with its airy, neutral palette and sophisticated coziness is the ultimate in relaxed luxury. There’s a timelessness to the space, from the open-concept living area to the perfectly styled kitchen, that feels both aspirational and attainable.'

'It conjures up that breezy, effortless elegance that’s perfect for any season but especially resonates around the holidays. The way the light plays through those big windows and onto the soft, neutral furnishings – it’s like a design hug! And yes, it’s influenced me in its approach to creating spaces that feel layered, personal, and irresistibly livable.'

Melissa Oholendt, of Oho Interiors, agrees. 'The Something's Gotta Give Hamptons beach house I think sparked bucket hats, white linen trousers, and cozy cardigan goals for us all,' she says of the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic coined by Meyers fans.

'My favorite design moment is the writing desk in Erica's Bedroom,' she explains. 'A place to stare out at the ocean in moments of writer's block, surrounded by stacks of books in the flanking built-ins, all swathed in Hampton's appropriate linens and woven woods. The whole house is something out of a vision board but the bedroom itself is truly what designers mean when we talk about creating a retreat.'

'It's a tie for me between the California oasis Meryl Streep lives in It's Complicated and the Hamptons beach house in Something's Gotta Give,' adds designer Kathy Kuo. 'Both are the epitome of laidback luxury – sophisticated while still feeling unique, livable, and full of personality and soul.'

3. Elizabeth's London Townhouse, The Parent Trap

In the 1998 movie The Parent Trap, when Hallie and Annie switch places, Hallie goes to visit her mother's London townhouse and instantly enchants us all with its beloved, grand, deep orange entryway and sweeping staircase.

Typical of Victorian homes, the ceilings are tall, and traditional style prevails while remaining as homey as any other Nancy Meyers movie.

'Elizabeth James' London Townhouse in Nancy Meyers' The Parent Trap will forever be one of my favorite earliest design-focused memories,' continues Melissa Oholendt.'

'The coral and gallery-wall filled entry, the window seat made for tea and pink wallpaper of the primary bedroom, the wood paneling of Hallie's grandfather's office? It's a classic, cozy, and livable even more than 25 years later.'

In total contrast, Annie lands in California and is greeted by her father's sprawling, ivy-covered Napa Valley vineyard and ranch house. Boasting a pool surrounded by rattan furnishings, large fireplaces, and a butter-yellow bedroom (very 2024), the two homes in The Parent Trap are enough to make you fall in love at any age.

4. Ben and Jules' Brownstones, The Intern

'I'm sure I'm in good company when I say that I've been taken by so many of the homes in Nancy Meyers' films; she is masterful at dialing in inviting interiors that reinforce place and character,' says Heather Menegat, studio director of Landed Interiors.

In the 2015 drama-meets-comedy The Intern starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, both characters – who work at a fashion start-up run by Hathaway's character Jules – live in traditional Brooklyn brownstone homes.

Living with her husband and young daughter, Hathaway's brownstone centers around the kitchen. The design features a marble fireplace, a mix of rustic and industrial style with plenty of open shelving and a large farmhouse sink. It's a space that feels alive.

'Ben's (Robert DeNiro) brownstone in The Intern is a standout for me – it feels embracing, cared for, and intentional,' Heather continues. The scenes in Ben’s home were actually filmed in a brownstone where a real couple have lived for over 30 years.

His home, in contrast to Jules', has character everywhere you look with an inviting and cozy feel. Plus, it's incredibly neat but as far from a bachelor pad as you can get thanks to standout pieces like a rustic farmhouse table as the kitchen island. It's a home that feels as dapper as it's owner.

'I think it plays an extraordinary role in communicating the life and history of a character who has strong boundaries at first but grows to show that, in his own words, he's "just a big bowl of mush".'

5. Spanish Ranch, It's Complicated

The charming Spanish-style home from It's Complicated exudes warmth and inviting charm thanks to its thoughtful color palette of warm neutrals along with pops of terracotta and navy with natural textures galore.

'I’ve always loved the home in It’s Complicated for its casual and effortless elegance - both in the interiors and intricate gardens,' says interior designer Wendy Labrum of Wendy Labrum Interiors. 'Rounded archways, tumbled stone floors, and an open, deconstructed kitchen takes center stage in many scenes. I aspire to be causally whipping up delicious chocolate croissants from scratch like this.'

'One of the consistent themes in all of the homes in Nancy Meyers' films is how utterly livable and non-fussy everything is and Meryl Streep's character's kitchen in It's Complicated is the pinnacle of this,' continues Melissa.

'A kitchen island with a marble top made for use and abuse and that you know looks better with the red wine stains and etches of family and friends gathering around,' she observes.

'The haphazard but somehow still so elegant stacks of dishes and serving ware displayed on open shelves for easy use and easy storage, the chef's range with an utterly utilitarian rangehood set-up but still so highly functional that you can't begrudge the loss of a design moment because the whole thing in combination feels like it would lose some of its charm if the range and hood had been more design-focused. It's a masterclass in design that is highly functional and completely non-precious.'

Alongside heartwarming, tear-jerking, rom-com storytelling sits just the most beautiful interiors to accompany the characters and the lives they lead in Meyers' cinematic worlds. And for that, we have Nancy to thank. Lucky for me, my homework is now to go and re-watch all these classic movies beloved by our interior design friends.

Utilizing flowers as home decor is one of our favorite ways to brighten up a space. For inspiration, we're taking cues from set decorator and filmmaker extraordinaire Nancy Meyers.

The Something's Gotta Give and The Holiday director, who is known for her films' stunning interiors, recently shared a snap of her coffee table styling, which features a magnificent bouquet of fresh, white lilies housed in a glass vase. Surrounded by coffee table books, the delicate flowers look effortlessly chic. 'Farmers Market lilies still so pretty 6 days later,' Meyers captioned the post.

Want to know how to keep flowers fresh in a vase for as long as possible? We spoke to an expert to get his top flower care tips. 'Lilies make for some of the best cut flowers to grow in the garden border,' says master gardener and content editor at Homes & Gardens, Thom Rutter. 'Dramatic, colorful and fragrant, lilies have it all.' For those with green thumbs, lilies, with their wide array of options (there are over 2,000 varieties of this bloom) are an excellent addition to any garden.

Though these flowers are evocative of spring, Rutter explains that lily bulbs are planted well in advance of the season. As such, there are some care considerations to make so they survive weather changes. 'Lily bulbs tend to be planted in the fall months going on to bloom the following summer,' he says. 'Just be sure to incorporate plenty of drainage when planting your bulbs, as they will not thank you for sitting in wet, waterlogged soil.'

To get flowers like Meyers' on the table, Rutter suggests simple snipping the stems and placing them in a spacious vase. 'When lilies bloom in the garden borders during July, August and September, you can cut and use them indoors,' Rutter states. 'As Nancy Meyers shows, pure white lilies can be incredibly impactful whether they stay in the yard or you bring them indoors for a floral display. White lily bulbs are available to buy online from Walmart.'

To keep the flowers looking fresh and healthy, Rutter says that special attention should be paid to the vase; it is actually just as important as the flowers themselves. 'A word of caution, however, lily stems and flowers can be large, so be sure to choose the right vase for your cut flowers,' he suggests. 'In addition, change the water every few days to ensure that your lilies last for as long as possible.'

First and foremost, consider the tiling that will go inside (or even outside) a swimming pool – this is a great way to infuse the area with some colors that are reminiscent of vacation destinations.

'Instead of traditional terracotta, go for oversized, colorful ceramics that reflect the bright blues and yellows of Mediterranean coastal towns,' suggests Jodi Peterman, the CEO and owner of Elizabeth Erin Designs. 'I use them for plants, water features, or even as standalone art pieces.'

Placing live plants next to a pool is fantastic for bringing greenery to a cement or stone pool. However, Peterman recommends taking it up a notch by planting some scented herbs alongside the swimming area.

'Think about engaging all the senses,' she says. 'Build an aromatic herb garden right next to your pool, filled with Mediterranean staples like rosemary, thyme, and oregano. Not only will it give you fresh ingredients for cooking or cocktails, but it also brings the scents of the Mediterranean to your poolside.'

Finally, create a Mediterranean ambiance with some staple accessory pieces that are sure to (literally) light up a pool.

'Add contrast to your watery oasis with stone fire bowls,' Peterman suggests. 'The flickering flames create a luxurious balance of the elements—fire and water—evoking those warm, evening vibes of Mediterranean beachfront lounges. If you're still in the construction phase, it’s smart to plan ahead by running gas lines to where your fire bowl(s) will be. This not only makes them easier to use but also adds a touch of sophistication and convenience to your outdoor setup.'

We would also be remiss not to mention the white and wood patio furniture in Meyers' yard, which has a resort-like quality to it thanks to the plush cushions and soft materials.

We love the look of a Mediterranean-inspired pool, and suggest adding just a few accessories so that the pool's perimeter does not look cluttered.

Renovating a home can be an uphill battle. In addition to the physical strains of redoing the walls and floors and bringing in new furniture, the process can be accompanied by emotional baggage. What's the hardest? According to Jessica Alba, letting go of things.

Alba recently went on the talk show Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk about her show about how to renovate a house successfully, called Honest Renovations. The show hosted by Alba and fellow actress Lizzy Mathis on the Roku Channel. The program features Mathis and Alba taking on difficult renovation projects and transforming them into beautiful homes.

What's the most difficult part of hosting a renovation show? Home decluttering. 'Everybody is attached to stuff. Like people are like, "but wait, this, you know, tables or this desk I had" and they think of all the memories and everything,' Alba tells Meyers. He responds, 'As the person who's renovating, are you like, "oh, that desk is gone"?'. Alba laughs. 'Oh yeah. I'm like, "it's got three legs, you're never going to see this desk again, it's being propped up by books." People have such a hard time letting go.'

The pitfall isn't limited to her clients. Seth inquires if Alba falls into this same pattern. He states: 'Would you, hypothetically, have irrational connections to things?'. Alba jokes: 'My husband says that I am kind of a hoarder, even though I'm not. He's like, "Just because it's organized doesn't make you less of a hoarder."' No matter who you are, it's difficult to make letting go easier.

This idea of 'organized hoarding' presents an interesting complication to the binary between those who are organized and decluttered and those who are messy in their homes. Just because everything has a place doesn't mean there isn't room to get rid of a few things from the house.

Though we can't promise that organizational containers will keep you from getting attached to your objects, keeping organized can help to maximize storage in every room and keep the clutter to a minimum. No matter how many things you have, if they have a place, your home will never look messy.

To avoid becoming an 'organized hoarder,' practice doing an annual clean out of your home. There are many methods to do this from the 'one in one out' technique where you sell or give away something for every new thing you bring into the home, to the classic Konmari method, which involves only keeping items that 'spark joy.' By choosing items with intentionality and care, you can keep your home clutter free.

Clutter isn't the problem, it's how you deal with it. Learning to be less attached to your items is a great place to start with getting organized.

We're obsessing over this Los Angeles house. There's something very familiar about it. It's smart, yet relaxed, traditional but still on trend and, above all, it's the kind of place we'd feel welcome and make ourselves at home. And then we realized – it's giving us those Nancy Meyers vibes. It's like all our favorite movie sets blended into the one house design.

The family room has all the California chic of Cameron Diaz’s LA house in The Holiday, and it's not hard to picture Erica Barry, the lead character in Something's Gotta Give, in the beautiful kitchen here. While the bathroom and bedrooms have that elevated and comfortable look that's become a key part of the Nancy Meyers aesthetic. No wonder we want to live here.

There's much more to this home's style than its movie star appeal, however, and there are plenty of fresh interior design ideas in the mix. Designer Denise Morrison of Morrison Interiors worked with the owners on the property's renovation, creating a home that beautifully combines traditional elements with lasting style. She shares her highlights below.

'The original interiors of the home had a lot of modern elements in the lighting, wallpaper and paint selections,' says designer Denise Morrison. 'While the exterior had a more traditional look which our client loved. We focused on aligning the interior with the exterior, bringing in more traditional elements through the design.'

Denise's living room ideas for the family room showcase the abundant natural light, the instant connection with the outside space, typical of many Californian homes. '

'We wanted this space to feel inviting and love the way it flows to the exterior' says Denise, who selected the calm neutrals for the furnishings along with drapes in soft natural linen (a classic Nancy Meyers textile choice, incidentally).

Opting for sectional seating for the living room, there's always the danger that the room design becomes linear or hard-edged. However, by layering the couch with pillows and throws (very Meyers), and by including the two round stools in the scheme, Denise creates a softer overall look that's very inviting.

We love the high vaulted ceiling in this room, the gentle quality of the light, and the huge house plant that's not far off reaching that ceiling. Add in fresh flowers and a strong coffee table styling game, for a look that's elevated, timeless and also very livable.

Although many parts of the home required major redesigns to create the timeless traditional style the owners were looking for, the kitchen ideas were all about painting the kitchen cabinetry to give the room a refresh. The designer specified new tiles and the new painted finish for the cabinets, and focused on bringing in accessories to add warmth and charm to the space.

Part-glazed cream cabinets, subway tiles, elegant detailing on the moldings, and the light coming in through that beautiful bay window over the sink.

The kitchen footprint is compact, but Denise and the homeowners wanted to find space for a dining nook. The statement pendant light from Bone Simple defines this special set-up, while the Tazi oval table from House of Morrison is the perfect space-saving solution and ideal partner for the built-in banquette window seat.

Oh, and is my memory playing tricks or wasn't there a very similar oval kitchen table and black chair arrangement in It's Complicated?

Although some of the dining room ideas here made us think of the elevated dining room in Amanda's (played by Cameron Diaz) LA home in The Holiday, that movie's now nearly 18 years old. Like the movie, our tastes in interior styles have come of age since then and designer Denise has given this classic scheme more lasting appeal with well-chosen furniture and décor.

The combination of dark and light wood furniture is particularly effective accessorized with the area rug, and white ceramic lamps and vases. The wallcovering is McLaurin & Piercy's Shinto design.

Home office ideas in this home are in keeping with the thoughtful design of the rest of the home, Classic, well made furniture is balanced by statement pieces that pull the scheme together. Here, it's a pendant light by Visual Comfort and a Kilim stripe rug by Marc Phillips that are the room's hero elements. Custom built-ins provide display and storage to keep things tidy in the working from home space.

By all means read your work documents in the dedicated home office but this cute reading nook is all about reading for pleasure. At the top of the stairs with a view off the front of the house, it's an indulgent space with pillows and throws to make it irresistible.

'Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the public areas of the home, it's the perfect retreat to relax and unwind,' says designer Denise. 'The large window offered not only a view, but lots of natural sunshine to further create a relaxing ambiance.'

Looking for bedroom ideas for a smart, timeless scheme? This delightful symphony of taupes and warm neutrals is inspired. The wallcovering is by Harlequin, providing a subtle pattern in amongst the neutral textiles. Denise chose a custom bed from House of Morrison and the neat Byron nightstand by Robert James Collection.

The designer's choices for the guest bedroom tick all the boxes. Neutral color choices, but not shying away from the strong statement bedhead, and with an attractive low pendant light in place of a bedside lamp, the room has everything an overnight guest could need.

It's easy to imagine any of Nancy Meyers' lead characters relaxing in this paneled bathroom, and that image of Cameron Diaz squeezed into the tiny cottage bathtub is one of the many charming comedy moments in The Holiday. She'd have no such problem in this generously proportioned room – the roll-top bath is a good size and there's plenty of space for pampering too.

The Something's Gotta Give and The Holiday director is no stranger to creating cozy and appealing interiors in her movies, so naturally, her Instagram page is a treasure trove of home ideas, with plenty of snaps of her California property on display.

The latest? A peek into her 'butler’s pantry,' which, according to the caption, features 'No butler. Just pantry.' Most notably, she has personalized her space with wall art, cookbooks, and antique accessories, providing visual stimulation and practical organization methods all in one. While pantries may be thought of as simple spaces to store dry goods, experts say that making them feel true to one's indivudal tastes with decor is a fantastic way to make the space feel even cozier and visually pleasing.

'Incorporate elements that reflect your style into your pantry,' suggests Westchester-based deesigner Nina Lichtenstein. 'Consider adding a small rug or mat with a pattern that ties into your kitchen decor. Install under-shelf lighting to brighten the space and highlight your carefully curated storage solutions. Even a simple touch like a decorative basket for storing reusable bags can add personality and charm.'

While kitchen storage solutions are primarily practical, Lichtenstein says that there is no reason that units cannot be stylish.

'Elevate your pantry's look with decorative storage containers,' she suggests. 'Choose matching glass jars with wooden lids, sleek metal canisters, or labeled ceramic containers. These not only keep ingredients fresh but also create a cohesive, aesthetically pleasing arrangement on your shelves.'

A neutral color scheme with warmed-up elements through colors and tactile finishes for an inviting feel will help you create the Nancy Meyers kitchen look.

Its owner describes this home as a 'rambling ranch', all 5,045-square-foot of it, perched on an expansive bluff over a wildflower field and with a forested backdrop, and 72 acres of land with stunning mountain views. 

The tired 1990s house design was ripe for renovation as nothing had been updated for 30 years but since the new owners are interior designer Joshua Smith and his husband  David Gerbitz, the chance to breathe new life into this stunning Vermont setting was an exciting opportunity. 

'I'd call it a cosmetic facelift rather than a total gut,' says Joshua. 'We updated it by adding new wood floors and added millwork and beams to ceilings for more architectural interest. We updated the lighting throughout the home and outfitted the walls in wallcoverings to add warmth and texture, as well as to break up the rooms that are connected.'

What's even more exciting about this renovation, is that in creating the new look and feel, designer Joshua says he was inspired by an iconic movie. 'It's Very Nancy Meyers – think the Vermont Version of the house from It’s Complicated,' he says. Take the tour, to see how he combines inspiration from nature, vintage finds and the Nancy Meyers aesthetic to give his country home a charming look that stays just the right side of cozy! 

Joshua set about creating that special Nancy Meyers blend of comfort and elegance, or 'livable beauty' as the designer likes to call it, nothing too ornate and precious but still refined. 'I always look to Mother Nature for inspiration. We took into consideration a year-round ambiance, with a focus on feeling light and airy in the summer and cozy during snowy seasons.'

It was views like these that convinced Joshua he could turn this home into something special and his dining room ideas need little embellishment with a landscape like this through the arched windows. The table is an 18th century French trestle table found at Galerie Half in LA, paired with mid-century chairs upholstered in vegan black leather. Other vintage furnishings and accessories complete this very storied look. 'We looked to transform our 90s home into a modern French country vibe with influences from Provence,' the designer adds. 

The creation of a new stone-walled and pea gravel terrace that arches out to capture those incredible views is a brilliant touch. Joshua's backyard ideas could be adapted to suit any setting, although the impact here owes a lot to the borrowed landscape over the wall. 

'The new terrace not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also serves as a functional space for enjoying the outdoors,' says Joshua. 'Our home is a haven where the beauty of nature seamlessly integrates with my thoughtful design choices, resulting in a space that is both visually stunning and practical for everyday living.'

The designer decided to use indoor-outdoor upholstery, even for the inside furniture. 'It was a good decision considering our two boxer dogs, and reflects a practical and mindful approach to living,' he says. 'It allows us to enjoy our space without constantly worrying about potential damage, promoting a relaxed and stress-free environment.'

The designer chose to keep the existing kitchen cabinetry which was still in good condition. As a result, his kitchen ideas were all about how to update and refresh the look, rather than demolishing and starting again. 

'This island was originally on four levels of height,' says Joshua. 'I searched high and low to find a stone that would work for this and now it’s all seamless, one big giant slab of Taj Mahal quartzite in a leather finish.' He added beams and tongue and groove to the ceiling, and painted the cabinets in Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter. The other countertops were replaced with granite in a leather finish. The classic cream Aga, and a curated selection of vintage cutting boards and paintings add to the characterful, lived-in look.  

This cozy home library is one of Joshua's favorite spaces in the home. The Goldenrod leather wingback chair was sourced from Montage Antiques in Millerton, New York, and actually inspired the color palette across the project. The black cricket table to the left was sourced at Brimfield Antiques Fair.

'We opted for no doors on the lower built-ins and chose to stack firewood, as it keeps us from having to run to the garage every time we want to start a fire. The home has two fireplaces and we have them going year-round,' he adds. 

If I were to pick a room that truly reflects the Nancy Meyers look, I'd say this living room comes close. Describing his living room ideas, Joshua says: 'The goal was to create a space that perfectly embodies my vision of 'livable Beauty'. I emphasized comfort, carefree living, and a retreat-like atmosphere for both myself, David, and our guests, which is evident in the thoughtful choices we’ve made in our home.'

And where did the inspiration for the designer's living room color ideas originate, apart from the movie It's Complicated? The answer, as with much of Joshua Smith's designs, can be found in nature. 'Adapting the color palette and textiles to evoke the essence of autumn leaves in the family room created a beautiful and thematic choice,' he says. 'It not only adds visual warmth, but also connects the interior with the changing seasons, creating a dynamic and inviting atmosphere throughout the year.'

The renovation involved some architectural changes, alongside the decorative elements. 'The addition of beamed ceilings and tongue-and-groove details not only brings character but also adds to the charm of a country sanctuary,' says Joshua. 'Opening doorways and expanding views further contribute to the overall sense of spaciousness and connection with nature.'

For his home office ideas Joshua again turned to rural France for inspiration, using a French farm table as the desk with a leftover remnant of marble for the writing space, and turning a piece of antique pottery into a lamp. Other vintage pieces were sourced from Brimfield and Round Top Antique Market, giving the refined but comfortable look the designer was looking for.  

There's a more elevated look in the bedroom but of course comfort is paramount for the designer's bedroom ideas too. 

Phillip Jeffries' Driftwood wallcovering adds texture and interest to the walls, the bedside chest is an original Swedish dresser from Covers & Roses in Massachusetts, and the rug is a handwoven design from Nepal. The statement light fitting is by Visual Comfort.

Bathroom ideas for the primary bathroom required a total remodel. Although this is all new, the results are classic and timeless, with traditional fixtures and accessories that add to the layers and stories Joshua was seeking to create. 'The ship painting is from Brimfield Antique Market. The art has a little tear in it and I think it's a livable imperfection. I embrace imperfections in my antiques and encourage people to do the same,' he says. 'I used an antique table to make my own home apothecary.' 

The floor tile is recycled glass to look like marble from Village Tile, in Manchester, Vermont, with Kohler plumbing fixtures.  

Joshua went all-out vintage with his powder room ideas, creating a cohesive look in sepia tones to complement the Pierre Frey toile de Jouy wallcovering. He repurposed an old hall console, left by the home's previous owners, as a vanity, and added antique paintings and a new piece of mirrored glass to an old gilded frame - a great way of reusing an ornate frame. 

Looking at the renovated property now, it's so easy to see the appeal. For Joshua, however, this country home represents so much more than easy-on-the-eye décor and practical updates. 'When I am in the country,' he says, 'my nervous system settles, and I fully relax. Now we know what is actually happening in the brain when we perceive beauty.'

The Nancy Meyers cinematic universe is acclaimed for its charming blend of romance and comedy; but for a cult crowd, the interior decor comes out on top as the most aspirational aspect of her films. Though the last film she directed came out nearly ten years ago (the Anne Hathaway and Robert DeNiro-led The Intern), it turns out that her own home is just as trend-forward as her set design.

The filmmaker recently shared a photo of her Spanish-style home, featuring terracotta roofing, greenery surrounding the windows, and, most notably, a butter yellow paint job. This hue is taking interiors by storm at the moment, and seeing it on the outside of a home is a unique take on the trend.

'The popularity of a warm buttery magnolia shade came from it being a neutral base color which could be paired with a range of other interior trends and colors, a shade which is inviting and warm, welcoming people into your space,' says Michael Rolland, paint expert, and managing director at The Paint Shed. 'As other neutral shades became more popular, Magnolia [a commonly used white paint hue] took a step back. However, with the new butter yellow paint trend, it seems to be having a comeback.'

Rolland explains that butter yellow is one of the most palatable and soothing color choices for the home. As such, decorating with yellow on the home's exterior gives passersby the impression that the home is calm and serene.

'One of my favorite things about this shade is its versatility; no matter which room you use it in, the warm yellow creates a calming environment,' he says. 'This is one of the reasons it is so popular within living spaces and kitchens as it creates a soothing feeling of warmth which can help to create a relaxed atmosphere.'

There are endless color companion options that look fabulous next to butter yellow, but Rolland has a few specific recommendations.

'The adaptability of the butter yellow shade allows for it to be paired with many other colors, including earthy neutrals for a balanced feel, crisp black and white to add a touch of modern and contemporary to the home, and even bold shades such as navy blue to create a contrast in the space,' he suggests.

This means a butter yellow exterior would look great with dark accents, or even a greige door.

This 'new neutral' has a place in both interior and exterior spaces, the latter of which Meyers demonstrates. However, butter yellow isn't the only tone powerful enough to be categorized as a new neutral. When asked which color is replacing white, designers also say taupe, beige, amber, brown, rust, and sepia tones are taking center stage, especially indoors. If there's ever a time to turn our backs on gray and white, it's now.

'The playfully whimsical interiors shown in each scene, with lush fruit bowls, fresh florals, ambient lighting, and a plethora of delicious food, wine, and candles, is never lost on me...'

Part of the rom-com-inspired look's appeal is that it doesn't lean too neutral, and doesn't go over the top. It blends styles and time periods with ease, making for a timeless, transitional design aesthetic overall. Cynthia adds that she enjoys the unconventional pairings that, together, create a soothing, chic style.

'Each scene evokes a feeling of elevated whimsy, while also feeling classic and timeless. A blend of aesthetics are pulled together, which include traditional silhouettes paired with contemporary accent pieces – like a traditional cabinet next to a transitional armchair with a slipcover, or a softly lit table lamp with a vintage pleated table lampshade, vintage colored glassware, patterned plates, and fun shapes in hardware,' says Cynthia.

'When it comes to rom-com-inspired decor, Nancy Meyers is really the gold standard. What's more, 'grandma-core bedroom' has been searched for 2,605% more this year than last, indicating that people are looking for the lived-in, collected-over-time aesthetic that embraces vintage charm.

We could never tire of a black-and-white kitchen color scheme. Another thing we will never get bored of is Nancy Meyers's films with their warm, romantic plotlines and elegant interior design schemes. The filmmaker's kitchen combines the two for a glorious effect.

Again, Connie talks of this style inspiration behind this guest bedroom, which brings in a lot of plaid, yet doesn't feel too antiquated. 'Traditional design is exemplified in this guest room. Its grey-green walls are soothing and peaceful, Connie continues.

'The blue and green wool plaid and Ralph Lauren pillow fabrics are the perfect mix of texture and pattern. A comfortable leather chair sits in the corner by the window for a rainy afternoon of catching up on the latest book. Throughout the room are curated items and antique rugs. Unsurprisingly, guests say they never want to go home.'
