Though we've discussed the mogul's real estate portfolio at length, this might be our favorite.

Degeneres took to Instagram to share a picture of her kittens and farmer's market oranges in her dining room, but we were looking at the background. The comedian's space incorporates a natural wood bench softened with a textural beige cushion. Her farmhouse table is also made of wood but in a completely different stain for a delicious contrast. The whole thing is accented with a light gray wall at the back.

Why is the organic modern look so popular? It is, in part, to do with the endless search for an interior design. Pam Hutter, principal architect at the Chicago-based sustainable design firm Hutter Architects, says, 'Homeowners want spaces that feel sophisticated yet natural. Organic modern appeals because natural materials like wood, stone, and reclaimed materials are timeless. My clients often request wood accents, stone fireplaces, and reclaimed wood flooring, which provide warmth and character.'

A contemporary focus on sustainable design bolsters the interest in these materials. Peterman tells Homes & Gardens: 'Organic modern aligns with the growing emphasis on sustainability and eco-conscious living, as it often involves using renewable resources and embracing craftsmanship.

Homeowners also love Ellen's mood-boosting design look's positive psychological benefits. 'Organic modern appeals to those seeking a balanced and calming environment amidst the fast-paced modern world,' says Peterman. She continues, 'The use of natural materials connects people with nature, promoting a sense of tranquility and well-being.'

'I like the main starting point to be dynamic. That isn’t to say it has to be vibrant and bold, there just needs to be a lot going on. Quieter art is better layered in once you’ve found the main event.'

Designer Rachel Chudley also believes that working with art can make a difference in a neglected corner space.

'I would never advise acquiring art to match an interior, but I would also say that an art collection should be an extension of your personality, as should an interior. It should bring joy – I really believe that living with art makes people happier.'

If you're not an art collector, shelving is a fantastic alternative. Living room shelving is a great way to add extra storage space to an underused or bland living room corner. 

Open shelving can create a real statement – it is both useful and beautiful. It is also more economical than a fully enclosed storage unit, especially in a compact room. It is particularly suited to small recesses in areas such as either side of a chimney breast or corner space, helping to enhance and correct uneven proportions visually.

In the latest unexpected pairing (that's brought us new levels of joy), Jeremiah Brent has unofficially crossed with The White Lotus – to pair characters with spaces he's previously designed. 

'Yes, it seems like I have too much time on my hands, but also, I just think it's super fun personality-wise to see it translated in the space,' Jeremiah comments –  and of course, we're inclined to agree.

The designer, who founded his eponymous firm with locations in Los Angeles and New York City, has curated some of the world's best homes – but three, in particular, best align with Tanya, Portia, and Harper from the aforementioned show. 

'First would definitely be Tanya, a fan-favorite and a personal favorite of mine. [She] stresses me out so much, but I always think about this bar that I designed for her. It's open and grand. There are these dramatic curved sofas, and it's a bar,' Jeremiah Brent 'ays. 'The whole space is centered around coming together and having a good time, which is so 'Tanya.'

And it would seem Tanya has good taste. The whole space radiates a level of chicness, but the curvy sofa is particularly on trend for 2024 (after already shaping the way we decorated last year). 

'These become popular in the design world due to their ability to introduce organic forms,' adds Olson + Baker's design expert James Scaife. 'Unlike traditional straight-lined sofas, their curved silhouette adds softness and fluidity to the room. These curves bring dynamic energy and visual interest, creating a welcoming ambiance.'

To get the look (in a way that would surely impress Tanya), we're opting for this curvy sofa, designed by Leanne Ford below.

For Portia, Jeremiah brings things closer to home. 'Next would be Portia... She loves a pattern in the outfits she wears. I always think about our daughter Poppy’s bedroom [below], which is really vibrant and fun and young.'

And the designer saved Harper, one of his favorite characters, for last. 'I love a dark, moody, stray cat, and that’s what she reminds me of,' he notes. 'I did a bar in Beverly Hills that was dark and definitely a space to be enjoyed after 7pm. That reminds me of her.'

‘I use a lot of dark green because it is very inviting,’ says interior designer Sarah Vanrenen. ‘I also love decorating with a heritage dark green. I don’t think space is a barrier to going bold – don’t be put off by using strong colors in even the smallest spaces and use it on all four walls. The effect is dramatic and green works with so many other incredible colors, too.’

'The residence, grounds, and additional structures offer a series of experiences with spaces that stand on their own yet seamlessly meld into a cohesive lifestyle unlike any other,' the description reads.

Located in lower San Ysidro, the property is a piece of serenity amid Montecito's buzz. This begins with the courtyard, with a central water feature that epitomizes the Californian indoor/outdoor lifestyle. Much like the other historic mansions in the area, the home is one single-story, meaning almost every room opens out to the mountainous outdoors. 

Other stand-out rooms include the eat-in kitchen that overlooks the state’s 'oldest resident,' an ancient, architecturally significant oak tree. The space has striking black cabinets that juxtapose the rustic white walls and floating shelves decorated with jugs and cutlery. 

The living spaces continue this neutral color palette while showcasing more architectural assets that pay homage to its 104-year-old heritage. These include the original wood floors, several fireplaces, and vaulted and beamed ceiling cathedral ceilings. There are also three sets of French doors that open onto a south-facing terrace, fountains, and the temple pavilion beyond.

The southwest corner plays host to a paneled office, library, and bar that is an entertainer's dream. Similarly, the octagonal dining room is an equally perfect backdrop for dinners, drinks, and night-long conversations.

There's arguably no design style that's as timeless as mid-century modern. Comprising sleek silhouettes, pared-back colors, and natural materials – most notably wood – mid-century modern is all about creating a considered space with simplistic yet elevated pieces. 

We're leaning into the mid-century modern interior of the home office space belonging to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, which was designed by interior design studio Clement Design. The room is an elegant and understated space that is elevated with quality crafted furniture items, most notably the curved wooden desk that design experts admire.

Déjà vu? Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have sold their historic Rancho San Leandro home in Montecito – for the second time. 

The former host of the eponymous talk show and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, first purchased the estate for $7 million before flipping it less than a year later to Tinder co-founder Sean Rad for $11 million. However, Ellen and Portia later repurchased the home for $14.3 million before recently selling it to Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd for an impressive $21 million. 

Rancho San Leandro is more than one of the world's best homes – it is an iconic site (pictured below) with an eternal legacy in Californian history. Once a 6,830-acre Mexican land grant in present-day Alameda County that Governor Juan Alvarado gave to José Joaquín Estudillo in 1842, the land was developed by the Dominguez family in the mid-1850s – marking one of the state's most significant land grants.

Siteline Santa Barbara – who first reported on the sale – shared that Ellen and Portia sold the property to Whitney and her Texas oil heir husband, Michael Herd – who reportedly share an estimated net worth topping $740 million. Dirt adds that the home is next door to Oprah Winfrey’s famed 'Promised Land' estate, which is described as her 'forever home.' Other Montecito residents include Meghan and Harry, Ariana Grande, and Gwyneth Paltrow. 

Plus, while selling and rebuying a home may seem surprising to some, it is not new to Ellen and Portia. The couple similarly repurchased another Montecito ranch known as The Villa in 2021, shortly after announcing the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 

Rancho San Leandro's exterior is a testament to its heritage – featuring a cobblestone courtyard and a distinct white façade. Inside, the decorating ideas merge history and modernity through its tile floors and vaulted wood-beam ceilings, accentuated with a clean neutral color scheme.

Alongside the main single-floor home is a detached bonus space with views of the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The white kitchen is contemporary but nods to traditionalism through its rustic tiled floor and intricate backsplash with a Spanish Colonial Revival aesthetic.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have made history in Santa Barbara following the 'priciest residential deal' in South County history. 

The comedian, known for her eponymous talk show, and her actress wife spent nearly $70 million on two side-by-side properties in Carpinteria – an exclusive seaside city in south-eastern Santa Barbara. The record-breaking compound includes some of the world's best homes, including a $41.7 million Tuscan farmhouse-style mansion and another $28.2 million property now owned by the couple. 

A report from Siteline Santa Barbara describes the sale as the 'priciest residential deal' in the area – notably more than the $63 million Montecito ranch purchased by billionaire Riley Bechtel around two years ago.

According to the report, Ellen's Carpinteria home is actually only half of the original 22-acre Loon Point compound pieced together by a former hedge fund manager Bruce Kovner and his wife, Suzie, in the early 2000s. 

The estate, known as Sanctuary at Loon Point, was initially put on the market in October 2021 for $160 million – 'California’s most expensive home.' The listing featured 22 acres of lush landscaping, divided into five parcels – with two distinct estates, Ocean View and Bellevue – connected by a private road. It was set to be the second most expensive home ever sold in California, following only behind Jeff Bezos’ Warner Estate, costing $165 million. 

Ellen DeGeneres purchased one of those two homes and one of the landscaped lots available. Therefore, the other mansion and two vacant parcels remain under the Kovners-ownership and may still be available for purchase. 

Ellen and Portia already made headlines in the real estate world in 2022 after buying an iconic Richard Neutra-designed home in only November. However, this $70 million sale is arguably their most notable to date. In the past three years, they have also repurchased a ranch they previously sold in Montecito and bought a stylish Robert Skinner-designed mid-century modern home in Beverly Hills. 

The Carpinteria estate has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms over 9,000 square feet of living space. The home's color palette creates a warming, southern European aesthetic that is complemented by its exposed wood-beam ceilings, stone archways, and marble accents throughout the house. 

Meanwhile, the striking grounds, which are filled with olive trees, offer an unrivaled spot for entertaining – complete with a spacious outdoor kitchen, several fireside lounge areas, and a selection of marble mosaic pools that overlook the Pacific. Ellen DeGeneres has listed a quaint cottage in Montecito – one of the many properties owned by the house flipper and her wife – for $6 million. 

The comedian and host of her eponymously named talk show is best known for her TV appearances, but she is also a force in the real estate industry, alongside her wife Portia de Rossi. Together, the couple have acquired, decorated and resold some of the most exclusive properties in the US, and some of the world's best homes. 

Earlier this week, the couple bought an iconic Richard Neutra-designed home in Bel Air, not long after famously buying back a ranch they previously sold in Montecito, the same affluent town where they have listed this craftsman style cottage for $5.85 million. The couple also sold an English Tudor-style property in Beverly Hills in 2021. 

According to the listing, the two-bedroom home sits on a 0.2-acre lot that sits in close proximity to both the beach and Montecito's lower and upper villages. Stand-out architectural features include the home's divided light windows and original built-ins that give the home a modern but rustic feel. 

The home was completed in 2015, but since then, its bathrooms and kitchen have undergone chic renovations that ensure the home is fit for contemporary living. The latter, in particular, is a trove of gray and white kitchen ideas – complete with marble topped countertops and top-of-the-range appliances. 

These neutral but stylish color ideas contine throughout the entirety of the cottage which features a dark gray and cream living space and a dining room, crowned  with a statement chandelier.

Together with her wife, Portia de Rossi, Ellen DeGeneres purchased the iconic Brown-Sidney House in Bel Air for $29 million – marking one of their most significant purchases to date. 

The property, which was designed by midcentury architect Richard Neutra, rightly has a reputation far beyond the esteemed Los Angeles neighborhood. However, its legacy extends beyond its Southern California postcode. 

With its connection to the pioneering architect and its prestigious location combined, this property is famed as one of the world's best homes – a title that is only fitting for its multi-million dollar price tag. 

According to recently recorded tax records acquired by Dirt,  Ellen and Portia took part in a clandestine off-market deal to purchase the house from billionaire hedge fund trader Adam Levinson. The former owner reportedly made a healthy profit on the home after he bought it three years ago from fashion designer Tom Ford for $20 million. 

In the past three years, however, Ellen has made several notable real-estate of her own – famously buying back a ranch she previously sold in Montecito and investing in an iconic Robert Skinner-designed mid-century modern home in Beverly Hills. The host of her eponymously named talk show also sold an English Tudor-style property in Beverly Hills in 2021. 

Her latest investment, Brown-Sidney House, was built in 1955 in the center of Los Angeles' most fashionable district (and with180-degree views of the neighborhood). 

Reports from Dirt suggest the estate has not been on the open market in a quarter century, and any more information about its size and its history beyond Tom Ford is limited. However, tax records indicate there is there are three bedrooms and six bathrooms, as well as a poolside cabana, naturally.

While little is known about the intricate decorating ideas inside Brown-Sidney House, there is more information about the architectural assets that make the structure so significant. The report suggests that the property was painstakingly restored by Tom Ford, with the help of Marmol Radziner, a design-build architecture practice based in Los Angeles. 

Marmol Radziner'swebsite which has several photographs that show a glimpse into the home's interiors. The firm speaks how a 'palette of muted browns and grays, including dark brown casework throughout the home, and shares how the property is outfitted with modern amenities.

It is not yet known whether Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi will reside in the property themselves – or whether they plan to flip the home sometime future. In this case, only time will tell.
