Alongside trend reporting, I am always on the lookout for clever uses of space – small spaces and ingenious storage in particular. My own apartment is tight on square footage, so I know a thing or two about “stretching spaces” or leaning into bijoux proportions. My love for interiors began when I interned in an interior design studio, working on commercial projects as well as private spaces for a variety of clients. My passion grew while working in production, where I sourced beautiful locations for photoshoots and campaigns. <p>Taking its name from antique silverware, Sherwin-Williams Pewter Green fuses earthy forest green and aged gray into one timelessly moody hue. </p><p>Best described as a grounding gray-meets-green, Pewter Green might've been on the market for over twenty years, but it's been the go-to <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-dark-green-paints">dark green paint </a>in the design world since 2020.</p><p>Today, <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw6208-pewter-green" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Pewter Green by Sherwin-Williams</a> is still the go-to paint choice for every space in need of a little luxury and richness. 'While it draws inspiration from nature, it feels refined rather than overly rustic, making it a versatile choice across a variety of design styles,' explains Emily Kantz, Color Marketing Manager at Sherwin-Williams. 'Depending on the lighting, Pewter Green can read as a deep green, soft olive, or moody neutral, creating depth and warmth while maintaining a timeless appeal.'</p><iframe src="https://content.jwplatform.com/players/TF98LrZn.html" id="TF98LrZn" title="What color is replacing beige? | Homes & Gardens" width="1920" height="1080" frameborder="0" scrolling="auto" allowfullscreen></iframe><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="getE8hTbyCucJLoo3zsGDT" name="Pewter green kitchen" alt="Kitchen with Pewter Green by Sherwin-Williams painted cabinets and island, marble backsplash, wooden floor and white walls, with two cream and gold pendants hanging from the ceiling." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/getE8hTbyCucJLoo3zsGDT.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Kelsey McGregor combined Sherwin-Williams' Pewter Green with <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw6209-ripe-olive" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Ripe Olive</a> for a rich, heritage effect. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Kelsey Leigh Design Co. / Emily Hart Photography)</span></figcaption></figure><p>'Pewter Green lends itself beautifully to a layered, collected aesthetic,' explains interior designer Kelsey McGregor, founder of <a href="https://www.kelseyleighdesignco.com/" target="_blank">Kelsey Leigh Design Co</a>. 'It works especially well with the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/news/cottagecore-trend">cottagecore</a> approach to decorating, where <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/color-drenching-trend">color-drenching</a> and character-rich details take center stage. I love pairing it with patterned curtains, floral textiles, vintage artwork, and pieces that feel timeworn and collected over time.'</p><p>It makes sense then that the moody green hue worked so well in the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/farmhouse-kitchen-ideas">farmhouse kitchen</a> pictured above. 'This project dates back to 2018, when black and white painted cabinetry was dominating kitchen design,' explains Kelsey. 'We wanted to push beyond those expected choices and try something that felt fresh while still being timeless. I had originally been inspired by a beautiful green-painted closet island I had seen and wondered what that color could look like on a much larger scale. Pewter Green felt like the perfect opportunity to bring that idea into a full kitchen, creating a space that felt rich, inviting, and a little unexpected at the time.'</p><p>'Pewter Green looks especially beautiful alongside natural wood tones and warm brass finishes,' adds Kelsey. 'Green and red/orange sit opposite one another on the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/color-wheel-223700">color wheel</a>, which creates a natural harmony between the paint color and the warmth of wood. I particularly love it paired with <a href="https://www.minwax.com/en/wood-stain-color-guide/browse-color-stains/brown/weathered-oak-270-semi-transparent" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Minwax Weathered Oak stain</a> on white oak. Kelsey suggests, 'Rusty reds and deep aubergine or plum tones can create a striking contrast while still feeling sophisticated, such as <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/red-paint-colors/sw6034-dark-auburn" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Sherwin-Williams Dark Auburn</a>.'</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="vjFABYWoKMp6JnZGRZKft7" name="Pewter green mudroom" alt="Mudroom painted in Sherwin-Williams Pewter green, with a built-in bench and storage, rattan baskets, a jute rug, and a pair of Hunter Wellingtons." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/vjFABYWoKMp6JnZGRZKft7.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Sarah Elizabeth Belleau color-drenched this rustic mudroom in Sherwin-Williams Pewter Green. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Elizabeth Lane Interiors)</span></figcaption></figure><p>'I wanted a color that felt moody, timeless, and sophisticated while still being practical for a hardworking family space,' explains Sarah Elizabeth Belleau, founder of <a href="https://elizabethlaneinteriors.net/" target="_blank">Elizabeth Lane Interiors</a>, on the green <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/mudroom-ideas">mudroom</a> pictured above. 'Pewter Green has beautiful gray undertones that give it depth and softness, creating a cozy, elevated feel rather than reading overly bold. As a mudroom that sees plenty of daily traffic from my children, I also loved that it would gracefully hide the inevitable dirt, scuffs, and everyday wear while still feeling beautiful and intentional.'</p><p>Naming the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-colors-go-with-dark-green">colors that go with dark green</a>, Elizabeth says, 'Pewter Green works best when layered with natural textures and warm accents. I love pairing it with unlacquered or aged brass fixtures, woven baskets, natural wood tones, linen textiles, and an earthy, textured rug. These organic elements soften the richness of the paint color and create a space that feels warm, inviting, and collected.'</p><p>'Pewter Green pairs beautifully with warm neutrals such as cream, ivory, <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-color-is-taupe">taupe</a>, and camel,' adds Elizabeth. 'It also complements natural materials like white oak, walnut, rattan, and stone. For metals, brass and bronze bring warmth and contrast, while black accents create a more dramatic, modern look. The versatility of Pewter Green is what makes it so timeless. It can feel traditional, modern, or organic depending on the materials layered alongside it.'</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="u28JQBwSD88cyrFR84xhoe" name="Pewter green kitchen" alt="Kitchen with Pewter Green by Sherwin-Williams painted cabinetry, a black backsplash and countertops, a range oven, wooden open shelves with ceramics and prints, and a vase of tulips." src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/u28JQBwSD88cyrFR84xhoe.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class="inline"></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Pewter Green brings a rich depth and moodiness to this classic kitchen. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Ainslie Design Studio)</span></figcaption></figure><p>'We selected Pewter Green because our client expressed an interest in green cabinetry,' Katilyn of <a href="https://www.ainsliedesignstudio.com/" target="_blank">Ainslie Design Studio</a> explains, referring to the moody kitchen pictured above. <p>Designing a small kitchen can pose plenty of design challenges, from ensuring enough storage for appliances to allowing adequate countertop space, but landing on the right color palette in these compact rooms is just as important. </p><p>While white paint can be appealing in kitchens with limited square footage, in hopes of making them feel lighter and brighter, designers are increasingly opting for richer and more colorful tones from Sherwin-Williams. Adding depth, warmth, and a design-led look that can be tricky to achieve with white, these richer hues can be just what's needed to elevate <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/small-kitchen-ideas-208328">small kitchens</a>. </p><p>But what are the <a href="http://homesandgardens.com/kitchens/best-colors-for-small-kitchens">best colors for a small kitchen</a>, exactly? Here, we've rounded up five favorite Sherwin-Williams paint colors among designers for small kitchens to inspire your next project. Although bolder than light neutrals, each of them has a muted, earthy quality that makes them easy to live with. </p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-1-portsmouth-sw-9644"><span>1. Although technically a blue-gray color, it has green undertones that offer warmth – an important consideration for <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/kitchen-colour-ideas-203697">kitchen color ideas</a> in compact spaces. </p><p>'We chose Sherwin-Williams' Portsmouth for this kitchen because of its quiet depth,' says Hannah Goldberg, founder of <a href="https://hannahcharlotteinteriors.com/" target="_blank">Hannah Charlotte Interiors</a>. 'The effect is soft and calm, acting as an anchor that grounds the space without overwhelming the room.'</p><p>'Portsmouth works especially well in smaller kitchens because of how it responds to light,' she adds. 'Throughout the day, the tone shifts subtly – brightening as the sun fills the room and becoming more atmospheric as evening sets in. That gentle movement gives the cabinetry dimension and prevents the space from feeling dark or static.'</p><p>'The result is a kitchen that feels layered and alive, where color adds richness while still maintaining a sense of calm – a balance that’s especially important in more compact spaces,' says Hannah. </p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-2-naval-sw-6244"><span>2. In this open-plan kitchen and living space, a <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-dark-blue-paints">dark blue paint</a> was used (similar to <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/SW6244-naval" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Sherwin-Williams' Naval</a>). 'It was important that it not feel overly “kitcheny,” but instead read as something more architectural and refined within the larger apartment,' says the New York and Madrid-based designer <a href="https://www.allisongarcyinteriors.com/" target="_blank">Allison Garcy</a>. </p><p>'The color works beautifully with the flooring and connects effortlessly with the surrounding materials, from the tile and wood tones in the kitchen to the wallpaper in the adjacent foyer,' she adds. </p><p>'The cabinetry recedes just enough to allow the other design elements of the apartment to shine, creating a layered, cohesive environment where the kitchen feels seamlessly woven into the overall architecture of the home,' says Allison. </p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-3-softened-green-sw-6177"><span>3. <p>Quiet luxury might’ve taken the interiors world by storm as one of the biggest trends of the last few years, but as we shift toward more characterful, colorful, personality-filled interiors, luxury has also gotten louder.</p><p>The <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/loud-luxury-trend">loud luxury trend</a> is a style that still has the elegance of quiet luxury, but rather than being hushed with neutrals and natural textures, it’s about being bolder with color and pattern.</p><p>But which colors suit this emerging trend best? Renowned paint brand Sherwin-Williams has created its own rendition of the look with its recently launched <em>Loud Luxury</em> palette. Its livable, layered scheme is not just made up of bold shades – warm neutrals are mixed in among dark, sophisticated tones that say luxury, <em>loudly</em>.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DT52CB5EoIE/" target="_blank">A post shared by Sherwin-Williams (@sherwinwilliams)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><p>First came the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/quiet-luxury-trend">quiet luxury trend</a>, which focused on hushed tones, rich textures, and understated elegance, but in recent months, loud luxury has become the go-to choice among designers looking to embrace opulence in a more maximalist way. Characterized by confidence, from rich <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/room-color-ideas">room colors</a> to bold furniture choices, it's a look that balances elegance with a playful boldness.</p><p>Emily Kantz, Marketing Manager at Sherwin-Williams, says, 'Loud Luxury reflects a growing desire for self-expression in the home, embracing bold color, contrast, and individuality. As consumers move beyond quiet luxury, this palette encourages personality-forward spaces that feel intentional, confident, and emotionally rich.'</p><p>But how do you channel the ever-popular trend through one liveable yet <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/luxury-color-ideas">luxurious color</a> palette? I spoke with Emily to delve deeper into the color lineup for 2026, uncovering the best pairings and styling advice to ensure your home feels authentic and ahead of the trends.</p><h3 class="article-body__section" id="section-sherwin-williams-2026-color-trend-predictions"><span>Sherwin Williams 2026 color trend predictions</span></h3><p>From uplifting pastels to sultry, moody tones, Sherwin-Williams Colormix trend forecast features 48 deeply sophisticated shades, each as versatile and timeless as the next.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="85Li5AWfDqrpSjgc5ReHAG" name="Lime green living room" alt="Living room with lime green walls, wall molding, linen armchair, and botanical print and floor lamp" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/85Li5AWfDqrpSjgc5ReHAG.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="caption-text">Sherwin-Williams' <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/green-paint-colors/sw6421-celery" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Celery</a> featured on a living room wall. </span><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Proving that <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/pastel-room-ideas">pastel rooms</a> aren't going anywhere in 2026, the first color family in the Sherwin-Williams Colormix forecast is 'Frosted Tints'. </p><p>Featuring twelve enchanting shades, each color feels refreshingly bright yet timeless, a classic choice for every home, every season. <p>The Benjamin Moore color chart is huge. Gigantic. Overwhelmingly massive. And when it comes to their huge range of neutrals, it can be tricky to know which one is going to look best in your home. </p><p>But there are two particular <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-selling-benjamin-moore-paints">Benjamin Moore best sellers</a> I see come up time and time again, <a href="https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffeehttps://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffee" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Swiss Coffee</a> and <a href="https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/oc-45/swiss-coffee" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">White Dove</a>. On the surface, they're two <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-off-white-paints">off-white paints</a>, with not much difference between them. On paper, they should be interchangeable. But on the wall, or indeed the woodwork, it's a very different story. There's a right time, and also very much a wrong time, for them both.</p><p>'Whites aren’t whites,' says the interior designer <a href="https://www.tamsinjohnson.com/" target="_blank">Tamsin Johnson</a>. 'Whites are beiges, grays, taupes, blues, even. I don’t seek the austere whites, I always look for the friendlier whites.' Which, handily, includes both of these two shades.</p><p>This comparison of <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/decorating-with-benjamin-moore-swiss-coffee">Swiss Coffee</a> and <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/how-designers-decorate-with-benjamin-moores-white-dove">White Dove</a> goes beyond being just a direct contrast, though. It's full of advice you can take whenever you're picking from one of the many, many <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/news/best-white-paint">white paints</a>. When to go warm and when to go brilliant are two very different times. She explains, 'The main risk in using white paint is that sometimes it makes it harder to host the moodier antique pieces I love. Some darker pieces can seem too weighty and bear too much gravity in a white space and lose their voice in the interior dialogue, so I have to be careful with those.' She leans warmer instead, using colors like Swiss Coffee as backdrops.</p><p>So in short, White Dove is great for bright rooms and fresh aesthetics, while Swiss Coffee is the preferred paint for darker rooms and a more cozy feel. Swiss Coffee has that slightly more yellow undertone, which you can bring out more depending on what you pair it with; it's a bit more nuanced than White Dove. White Dove is closer to a pure, brilliant white, far less creamy than Swiss Coffee, so better suited to light-filled spaces that can handle its coolness.</p><p>As always, I recommend ordering swatches, even if you are set on one over the other. All neutral paints are such chameleon shades and can shift dramatically depending on the light and orientation of the room, plus the other tones in the space.</p>

<p>Sherwin-Williams has announced its color of the month for June. Icy Lemonade SW 1667 is a yellow shade, with a name that befits its cool, zesty personality. Despite its zing and vigor, this pastel yellow is tempered by a barely-there green undertone that gives it a surprisingly mellow, slightly nostalgic quality.</p><p>We take a closer look at Icy Lemonade SW 1667 – exploring its undertones, its behavior in different types of light, and how to make it work in the home. It’s a light, pastel yellow that’s softened by a cool green undertone – subtle, but present enough to shift the hue away from anything overly sugary or sunny. This touch of coolness gives the color an unexpected balance, making it feel more grounded than saccharine.</p><p>‘It’s a soft yet eclectic pastel yellow,' Sherwin-Williams explains, and that complexity is what gives the shade its strength. In rooms with good lighting, it radiates a gentle warmth. But it also holds its own against bright whites and soft neutrals, creating a breezy, optimistic palette.</p><p>When paired with natural textures or vintage-inspired furnishings, Icy Lemonade takes on a mid-century ease. But it can just as easily feel fresh and contemporary when used in clean, minimalist spaces. That balance between charm and calm is what makes it stand out within the broader spectrum of yellow paint.</p><h2 id="where-does-icy-lemonade-work-best">Where does Icy Lemonade work best?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="yq9FJFQ87Fx2sKGFvZmjcj" name="Yellow modern kitchen" alt="Yellow modern kitchen" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/yq9FJFQ87Fx2sKGFvZmjcj.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Icy Lemonade shines in spaces that receive plenty of natural light. Mid-century homes, sun-filled apartments, or interiors that favor open layouts and light finishes are all good candidates for this shade. The color is especially well suited to homes in warmer regions where daylight is plentiful.</p><p>‘Known for boosting overall mood, yellow paint colors carry a subtle tonality that prioritizes productivity,’ notes Sherwin-Williams. That makes this shade a natural choice not just for residential interiors, but also for welcoming commercial settings or hybrid live-work spaces. It’s the kind of color that encourages creativity and energy without feeling overstimulating.</p><p>Designers looking to tap into the optimism of mid-century modern design will find a natural ally in this paint. ‘Capture the essence of mid-century modern design with this optimistic butter yellow,’ Sherwin-Williams suggests – a reminder that sometimes, a bit of color can do more than just dress a wall; it can shift the emotional tone of an entire space.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="f7AACHhUJ4xAKPEgEobQj3" name="Dining room with yellow walls leading to a kitchen with terracotta walls and white cabinets" alt="Dining room with yellow walls leading to a kitchen with terracotta walls and white cabinets" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/f7AACHhUJ4xAKPEgEobQj3.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><p>While yellow can sometimes dominate a room, Icy Lemonade brings enough softness to play well with a variety of functions and layouts. It works nicely in <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/kitchen-ideas">kitchens</a> and <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/dining-room-ideas-224005">dining rooms</a> – spaces that benefit from a feeling of light and warmth - but it also lends itself well to creative or transitional zones like <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/home-office-ideas-202304">home offices</a>, <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/entryway-ideas">entryways</a>, or <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/powder-room-ideas">powder rooms</a>. </p><p>Because of its delicate green undertone, it has a filtered, almost sun-faded look that gives it versatility across design styles. In rooms where you want a pop of color that still feels gentle and unforced, this shade offers a considered alternative to beige or cream.</p><h2 id="where-to-avoid-using-icy-lemonade">Where to avoid using Icy Lemonade</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:80.00%;"><img id="JLC4ohF3kw3NW6nueMB3QD" name="Yellow office" alt="Yellow office" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/JLC4ohF3kw3NW6nueMB3QD.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="1600" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><p>As with so many paint colors and their undertones, it’s important to sample this shade before fully committing. Its soft, green undertone can behave unpredictably in certain lighting conditions. In <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-are-the-best-colors-for-north-facing-rooms">north-facing rooms</a> or limited daylight, the yellow may lose its warmth and start to feel particularly jolting. It might even take on a faintly greenish cast, especially when paired with cool-toned fixtures or blue-based whites.</p><p>This might be a dealbreaker if you’re painting a poorly lit entryway, basement, or shaded room. If you’re set on using yellow paint in a low-light room but want to avoid any unexpected coolness, you might consider a similar shade with a warmer base or more golden undertones. Icy Lemonade, like any pastel, needs the right light to fully come to life.</p><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:80.00%;"><img id="PunUCcmr5FR4KZp7bURPbM" name="Yellow kitchen" alt="Yellow kitchen with yellow kitchen island and white kitchen stools" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/PunUCcmr5FR4KZp7bURPbM.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="1600" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><h2 id="bring-this-color-into-your-home-in-smaller-accents">Bring this color into your home in smaller accents</h2> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="012a3b65-1617-407b-898d-1cc3e0e9f3b4"> <a href="https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/hybrid/cecilia-willoughby-boucle-armchair?category=home-catalog&color=270&type=STANDARD&size=One+Size&quantity=1" data-model-name="Cecilia Willoughby Bouclé Armchair" data-model-brand="" ><div class='product-image-widthsetter'><p class='vanilla-image-block' data-bordeaux-image-check style='padding-top:100.00%';><img style="width: 100%" class="featured_image" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3ayMsLBdHpBU9dRPMMqBGU.jpg" alt="A yellow and white striped armchair"></p></div></a> <div class="featured_product_details_wrapper"> <div class="featured_product_title_wrapper"> <div class='featured__brand'>Anthropologie</div> <div class="featured__title">Cecilia Willoughby Bouclé Armchair</div> </div> <div class="subtitle__description"> <p><p>If you are a yellow addict, this Anthropologie armchair is a showstopper. <p>Repose Gray by Sherwin-Williams and Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore are two of the most popular neutral shades. They are best sellers from both brands and loved by designers and homeowners alike. But what exactly sets them apart, and how do you know which is right for your space? </p><p>When it comes to choosing the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-neutral-paints">best neutral paint</a>, it’s rarely a one-size-fits-all scenario. We look at the characteristics of both these easy-going hues, from how they behave in different rooms to what kinds of interiors they best suit. </p><p><a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/paint/everything-you-need-to-know-about-sherwin-williams-repose-gray">Repose Gray</a> and <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/how-to-decorate-with-revere-pewter-benjamin-mooreur/ReverePewter/HC-172/">Revere Pewter</a> are both staples in conversations amongst homeowners and interior designers about the best neutrals, and for good reason. They’re incredibly versatile, and both have a strong reputation. </p><p>But while they might fall under the same general color family, their undertones and behavior in natural light vary greatly. And as with any classic color debate, it often comes down to personal preference, or simply the question of <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/paint/sherwin-williams-vs-benjamin-moore">Sherwin-Williams vs Benjamin Moore</a> and what each of these paint greats has to offer.</p><h2 id="repose-gray-vs-revere-pewter-what-s-the-difference">Repose Gray vs Revere Pewter: What’s the difference?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="ebEnr3XhjMy9K4PRYg2CoV" name="A sitting room painted in beige" alt="A sitting room painted in beige" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/ebEnr3XhjMy9K4PRYg2CoV.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Benjamin Moore)</span></figcaption></figure><p><a href="https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/hc-172/revere-pewter" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter HC-172</a> is a warm, earthy 'greige', a fusion of a relaxed, cool <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-gray-paints">gray paint</a> and a neutral. It's worth considering both parents of this hybridization to understand how it performs in certain contexts, and crucially, its interplay with light. </p><p>Its charm lies in its ability to feel timeless, calm, and receding without feeling cold. ‘Revere Pewter is one of our most popular colors and has topped the <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-selling-benjamin-moore-paints">Benjamin Moore best sellers list</a> for years,' says Arianna Barone, Color Marketing Manager at Benjamin Moore. ‘With unrivaled versatility, it effortlessly bridges warm and cool as a beautiful neutral hue. Whereas Revere Pewter appears more of a beige with gray undertones, Repose Gray, as befits its name, is much more of a gray with a smidgen of beige undertone. </p><p>In short: Repose Gray has the slightest hint of taupe and a whisper of warmth, but it still reads as a true gray in most lights. </p><p>While not ice cold, it does lend a more modern look than the softer Revere Pewter, which is much more muted and delicate. In rooms that have minimal natural light levels, Repose Gray can appear cooler – and even a little drab if paired with the wrong undertones elsewhere in the room. It shines best in well-lit spaces where its neutral clarity can fully come through.</p><h2 id="which-is-better-for-your-home">Which is better for your home? </h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="q6FiXNhPvw7LrXUao7AFoK" name="2 (18)" alt="A hallway leading to another room, with an entryway table and a lamp. Its warmth will help prevent the space from feeling sullen or flat. It also complements traditional and transitional interiors particularly well. </p><p>If your room is not particularly deprived of daylight or you lean toward a more contemporary, even minimalistic aesthetic, Repose Gray would be perfectly suited for a polished, sleek look. It has a subtle sophistication and crispness that pairs beautifully with clean lines and minimal palettes. <p>Choosing a paint color can feel like one of the most deceptively nuanced parts of home design. Even subtle variations in tone can have a dramatic impact depending on the direction of a room’s light, the materials it’s paired with, or even the time of day. Sea Salt by Sherwin-Williams is a prime example of this. </p><p>While often described as a <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-green-paints">green paint</a>, its composition reveals far more complexity – a muted blend of green, blue, and gray that reacts sensitively to its environment.</p><p>Here, we take a closer look at what makes Sea Salt one of <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-are-sherwin-williams-best-selling-paints">Sherwin-Williams' most popular paints</a>. If you’re currently looking for inspiration, Sea Salt – with its misty, muted character – might catch your attention, especially when decorating with green in soft, serene palettes. </p><p>We spoke to Emily Kantz, Color Marketing Manager at Sherwin-Williams, to understand the full scope of how Sea Salt can be used in today’s interiors; what it offers, where it performs well, and where it may not.</p><div class="instagram-embed"><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-version="6" style="width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><p><a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C8k2v6oMsx3/" target="_blank">A post shared by Sherwin-Williams (@sherwinwilliams)</a></p><p>A photo posted by on </p></blockquote></div><h2 id="understanding-sea-salt-s-color-category">Understanding Sea Salt’s color category</h2><p>According to Emily, 'Sea Salt is a highly <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/most-versatile-paint-colors">versatile color</a> that technically falls within the green family, but its soft blue undertone gives it a serene, adaptable quality that works well in a wide range of spaces'. That blue note, combined with a subtle gray base, makes the color appear cooler and less saturated than many greens. </p><p>Depending on the light, it can read as bluish in <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-are-the-best-colors-for-north-facing-rooms">north-facing rooms</a> or more distinctly green in sunnier environments. This ability to shift gently between tones is part of what gives the color its broad appeal, though it does require thoughtful pairing to ensure it behaves as expected.</p><h2 id="what-aesthetic-does-sea-salt-work-with-best-and-why">What aesthetic does Sea Salt work with best and why?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="QXf94esFv9CWMC8YYJDXnd" name="Bathroom painted in pale green" alt="A modern bathroom with walls painted in a mint green, with a blue wrap around shower curtain over the freestanding bath" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/QXf94esFv9CWMC8YYJDXnd.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Sea Salt’s soft tone lends itself particularly well to light, natural interiors. As befits its name, it's a favorite in both farmhouse and <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-is-coastal-decor">coastal style</a> homes, thanks to its ability to introduce a gentle wash of color without overwhelming the space. 'It's soft hue pairs effortlessly with the warm wood tones and neutral finishes commonly found in these styles, creating a balanced and inviting atmosphere,' explains Emily. </p><p>'In coastal settings, it draws inspiration from sea glass, while in <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/ideas/farmhouse-decor-ideas">farmhouse style</a> spaces, Sea Salt provides a nice contrast between rustic wood and crisp whites.' It’s also well-suited to <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/what-is-scandinavian-interior-design">Scandinavian-inspired interiors</a>. In these minimalist settings, Sea Salt’s muted presence complements light woods, clean lines, and bright whites. </p><p>According to Emily, the shade adds a subtle touch of nature-inspired color while preserving an uncluttered vibe. In all cases, the key to Sea Salt’s success seems to lie in its restraint. It’s a color that works best when the surrounding palette leans quiet and organic, relaxed rather than assertive.</p><h2 id="where-does-sea-salt-work-best">Where does Sea Salt work best?</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="C2tsqHY9UeUt5fhLbzbHDm" name="Modern mint green bedroom" alt="A bedroom painted in mint green" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/C2tsqHY9UeUt5fhLbzbHDm.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Sherwin Williams)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Sea Salt often finds a natural home in <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/spaces/decorating/bedroom-ideas-223507">bedrooms</a> and bathrooms, spaces where the goal is rest. Sea Salt’s soft blend of green, blue, and gray achieves a 'soft, spa-like quality, creating a soothing, retreat-like atmosphere. Its tranquil tones evoke a sense of calm, making it ideal for spaces for relaxation and self-care', especially when balanced with natural stone, linens, and wood finishes to avoid appearing overly cool or clinical.</p><p>The same is true in the bedroom, when styled carefully, Sea Salt promotes a restful environment and complements a range of bedding colors and textures, from layered whites to soft linens and pale woods. </p><p>The shade also suits <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/kitchen-ideas">kitchens</a>, particularly those styled with white cabinetry or light countertops. Emily explains that 'Sea Salt brings a gentle pop of color without overwhelming the space', maintaining a bright and welcoming feel. Its softness allows it to behave more like a neutral in these settings, especially when paired with the right finishes.</p><h2 id="where-to-avoid-using-sea-salt">Where to avoid using Sea Salt</h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="9fA9tj96ntTHPXvd7oXi3" name="Coastal color schemes grey and blue" alt="bedroom with soft blue panelled, a wooden bed and grey sheets" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/9fA9tj96ntTHPXvd7oXi3.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Scooms)</span></figcaption></figure><p>Despite its versatility, Sea Salt may not be universally adaptable. Because of its icy undertones, it may not perform well in spaces dominated by very <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/warm-color-schemes">warm colors</a> or rich hues, particularly red-toned woods, terracotta, or golden shades. In this context, Sea Salt’s cooler character can feel rather dramatically at odds with the overall tone. </p><p>In darker rooms with limited natural light, its cool blue-gray undertones will likely dominate, which can feel chilly, steely, and unwelcoming. Understanding this limitation is important when considering Sea Salt for larger-scale use or in homes with a predominantly warm material palette, or light-deprived spaces like north-facing rooms or those which rely on artificial light. </p><h2 id="what-colors-to-pair-with-sea-salt">What colors to pair with Sea Salt? </h2><figure class="van-image-figure inline-layout" data-bordeaux-image-check ><div class='image-full-width-wrapper'><div class='image-widthsetter' style="max-width:2000px;"><p class="vanilla-image-block" style="padding-top:120.00%;"><img id="3Vcqr6vL8JWySsJ8ggtQsF" name="coastal decor Dmar Interiors Bethany Nauert Photography 3.jpg" alt="coastal decor in a dining room" src="https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/3Vcqr6vL8JWySsJ8ggtQsF.jpg" mos="" align="middle" fullscreen="" width="2000" height="2400" attribution="" endorsement="" class=""></p></div></div><figcaption itemprop="caption description" class=" inline-layout"><span class="credit" itemprop="copyrightHolder">(Image credit: Dmar Interiors/Bethany Nauert Photography)</span></figcaption></figure><p>One of Sea Salt’s strengths is its compatibility with a wide range of other shades, so long as they’re chosen with intention. It pairs well with clean <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/news/best-white-paint">white paints</a>, such as <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw7005-pure-white" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Pure White SW 7005</a>, which offers crispness and contrast, and with softer, warmer <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-off-white-paints">off white paints</a> like <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/white-paint-colors/sw6385-dover-white" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Dover White SW 6385</a> for a more blended, tonal feel. Emily also recommends pairing it with subtle <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/interior-design/best-neutral-paints">neutral paints</a>, such as <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/neutral-paint-colors/sw9166-drift-of-mist" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Drift of Mist SW 9166</a>, which can create a layered, serene backdrop.</p><p>For those looking to bring in more contrast, Sea Salt works surprisingly well with deeper, moodier hues. Colors like<a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/neutral-paint-colors/sw7067-cityscape" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"> Cityscape SW 7067</a>, a less nuanced graphite gray, or <a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/blue-paint-colors/sw2739-charcoal-blue" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Charcoal Blue SW 2739</a>, a deep navy, add dimension and balance without overshadowing Sea Salt’s subtle presence. </p><p><a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/en-us/color/color-family/neutral-paint-colors/sw7622-homburg-gray" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Homburg Gray SW 7622</a>, a sophisticated green-gray, offers a more grounded contrast that still aligns tonally with Sea Salt’s palette. These <a href="https://www.homesandgardens.com/advice/color-combinations-for-rooms">color combinations</a> enable designers and homeowners to create a space that feels both calm and considered, whether they’re building a soft, tonal scheme or one with a little more visual weight.</p><p>If you aren't in the market for a total room color change, the soft green of Sea Salt is a lovely color to bring in in smaller accents, especially as we go into the summer months. </p> <div class="featured_product_block featured_block_hero" data-id="3f9f4056-3350-4101-accf-e8b595499c40">
