No room in your tiny living area? No problem – Cruz Beckham's super intelligent small shelf is one of the cleverest uses of 'dead' space I've ever seen
When design meets ingenuity, no space is wasted: Cruz shows us how to turn unused zones into design moments

While it may seem unlikely that you can learn small space storage lessons from a celebrity, Cruz Beckham's wall-mounted shelf, AKA a tiny room savior. Cruz posted an image from a minimalist, neutral space that, despite its Scandi-style aesthetic, appears compact in size – and with its dimensions comes a reminder of just how versatile 'dead' space can be.
The wall-mounted shelf, floating high above the floor but underneath the TV, utilizes an area that could so easily go forgotten about. Many opt to install shelves at eye level, but this arrangement challenges conventions. If you're looking to organize a small house with no storage, precious wall space (much like this) shouldn't go unused.
Hanging a lower shelf, especially a wall-mounted sideboard like this, offers more room for whatever you'd like to showcase in your living room, whether that's a vase, books, a candle, or an ambient lamp. When you rethink shelving placement, you suddenly have so much more room for wall storage (and styling) – and it's a technique that translates to even the smallest of homes.

I've been thinking about this smart layout ever since I first saw Cruz's photo. However, I am not alone in my appreciation for such a solution.
'Floating shelves don't take up a lot of physical – and therefore visual – space, making them ideal for small spaces,' comments Bo Hellberg, the CMO at Scandinavian design icon String Furniture.
'Swapping even a small run of cabinets for open shelving can make a room feel larger and brighter. It allows for plenty of storage and creates an opportunity to display your favourite objects, without overwhelming the space with heavy cabinetry.'
Bo continues, explaining his top storage lessons for small space living.

'Generally speaking, in a small space, you should make use of the height and wall spaces as much as possible. But if you have space under the stairs, you could design an almost extra small room, with desk, cabinets, shelves,' he notes.
Plus, alongside Cruz's shelving trick, you can also elevate the feeling of your small room by playing strategically with color.
'In a small room, it’s great to be able to change the design once in a while. Sleek wall shelving provides you with plenty of flexibility both practically and aesthetically, meaning you can achieve a completely new look whenever you like. There is an age-old doctrine of using light colours on walls to make your home look bigger. This is true, and your shelves need not detract from this. Using minimal materials, string ensures your walls aren’t totally covered,' Bo adds.
This is our cue to rethink how we see all wall space in our living rooms, whatever the size.
