Drew Barrymore created my dream mid-century modern lamp for only $40 – I've been searching for years and never found one under $300, but her curved version exudes luxury at the right price
I've been dreaming of a burlwood lamp since I was a teenager, and the actress's latest Beautiful for Walmart drop is granting all of my wishes

I've been obsessed with burlwood furniture ever since I first saw it as a teenager. In the intervening years, I've traversed every home interest website searching for the perfect lamp to bring the material into my home, but I could never find anything within my budget. I'd nearly given up hope.
Last week, when Drew Barrymore released a stunning $40 Burlwood Table Lamp at Walmart, my prayers were finally answered. The mid-century-modern style lamp has a natural burlwood base in an on-trend curved shape and a pretty cream shade. In my opinion, it looks just as luxurious as its $300 counterparts.
According to recent reports, it's not just me who is obsessed with this material. Burl wood first gained popularity during the art deco period, and made a resurgence in the 60s and 70s, as part of the mid-century modern movement. In 2025, the burl wood trend is once again appearing in the home of every stylish homeowner. Its reappearance throughout history indicates that although it's currently popular, it will also remain ever timeless.
It's easy to see why. The material's unique whorls, the warmth of its connection to nature, and the smooth way it is sanded down have an irresistible pull that makes any room feel elevated but cozy. It looks excellent when styled in a mid-century modern way with a variety of wood tones or paired with bright colors.

If you love integrating natural materials into your design scheme but aren't so sure about the lamp, you're in luck. Drew also designed a coordinating mirror, tray, and box as part of her latest collection for Walmart.
This curved mirror has a stylish burl wood frame and a versatile construction. It could be used either on top of a vanity or mounted on the wall.
Store your perfumes, decorative objects, or books in style using this beautiful burl wood tray. The gold handles give it a touch of modern romance, while the edges add function.
Store your jewellery in style and keep your trinkets safe with this adorable box. It would look beautiful on top of a stack of books.
Shop editor's picks of alternative burl wood pieces
As the trend gains momentum, hundreds of retailers are carrying burlwood pieces. Here are some of my favorite furnishings I found in my search.
Have you heard of the newly launched Loloi sister brand Joon Loloi? It is time to get to know. Offering an array of rugs and home accessories, a stand-out piece is this 'Orana' lamp that is crafted with a tapered burl-wood base, each with its own unique natural-wood markings.
If you're looking to introduce a smaller accessory, this cute tissue box cover will help to elevate even the most mundane of pieces. Sit it on your bathroom vanity or desk for a unique pop of high-gloss pattern.
Of course, Shea McGee knows what's up and has designed the 'Ogden' range for her Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee collection at Target of beautifully burled pieces like this hexagon-shaped side table, perfect for drinks and a lamp.
Burlwood pieces are stunning, but they are difficult to find at the right price. Hopefully, Drew Barrymore and Homes & Gardens have made your search slightly easier.
