Gwyneth Paltrow's 'invisible fridge' has a chic modern twist – and her built-in kitchen feature is the biggest trend of 2026

The Goop founder recently unveiled a kitchen renovation on her Instagram, and it's a masterclass in built-in appliances – it's simultaneously modern and classic

As social media has made our homes increasingly public, kitchen design has become more and more subtle. The rise of invisible kitchens - where appliances are built into the cabinets - mirrors this shift. In the debut of her new fridge design, Gwyneth Paltrow takes the trend a step further.

The actress took to Instagram to share one of her famous 'boyfriend breakfast' videos, with a newly fluted and built-in kitchen in the background.

Notably, her refrigerator idea follows the current move towards built-ins, with edges encased in her gray cabinets, but with a twist: the front is glass.

Based upon the online popularity of 'fridgescaping,' it's likely that see-through fridges will only become a more coveted item. However, as Gwyneth has shown, this trend will coexist with the move to make appliances more subtle.

Thomas Hopper, kitchen appliance expert at Miele explains: 'To achieve a modern finish for a contemporary handleless kitchen, built-in and integrated appliances are rising in popularity – with online searches for “cabinets for built in appliances” becoming a breakout search term according to Google Trends, as more homeowners look to the clean lines of a seamless style.'

Shop the Glass Kitchen Edit

Whether or not you have a glass fridge, you can harness the timeless power of the transparent material in your kitchen. Here are a few editors' picks to tap into the look.

However, as you tap into this kitchen trend, it's important not to be tempted by too many overly modern bells and whistles. Built-in doesn't have to mean unnecessarily technologically advanced.

'Homeowners are often tempted by fully integrated smart systems, but these can lose their relevance as technology evolves,' warns Rossella Marzocchella, Interior Designer at Decor and Decor.

'Prioritizing functionality first and layering in smaller smart elements like smart lights ensures your kitchen is convenient, modern, and built to last.'

She continues: 'Kitchen renovations are some of the most significant investments a homeowner makes. Thoughtful choices in materials, finishes, and layout help ensure the kitchen remains stylish, practical, and enjoyable long after the initial renovation.'

Gwyneth Paltrow is timelessly stylish, so it only makes sense that her fridge would follow suit. By combining current design trends with classic principles, she creates something truly special.
