You have the rare opportunity to own original pieces from Iris Apfel's estate – her magnificent collection is at auction for a limited time
The legendary antique expert and decorator's beautiful collection will be biddable online and viewable in person late this month

As a legendary figure in the world of art and design, the late Iris Apfel's personal collection of textiles, furniture, and home accessories is storied (to say the least). Now, nearly a year after her death, her estate is being auctioned off with Christie's – and there are some pretty spectacular items in the collection. If you love decorating with antiques, this opportunity is too rare to pass on – it's truly a once-in-a-lifetime sale.
The collection, titled Unapologetically Iris, features over 200 pieces from the tastemaker and antique expert's personal oeuvre. Highlights include Carved Ostrich-form Bar 'Gussy' Italy, circa 1975, a pair of Louis XVI-style, cream-painted chaises from the 19th/20th century, and a cast-resin, lime-green figure of Iris Apfel herself riding a scooter, made in 2021. With a background as a decorator and former owner of a textile company, it's no wonder that Apfel's collection is rich in history and diverse in its materials, from decorative objects to valuable antiques.
While the auction will run online, items will be on display in person at Christie's Miami from January 24 – 25, The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach from January 29 – 31, and Christie's New York from February 9 – 13, with bidding commencing on January 28.
For those of us who are feeling inspired by Apfel's eclectic style but aren't necessarily ready to drop thousands on the auction, her collection with Ruggable is a great option that's worth an honorable mention at this time.
Having recently released the third iteration of their partnership, Apfel's designs take inspiration from wildlife as well as flowers and plants, making for bold and dopamine decor-approved designs. As a bonus, they are all machine washable as well as incredibly affordable, with prices starting at $129. If you're choosing a rug, there's no reason to look beyond this style icon. We've listed our favorites below.
A rug for the fantasy-forward, we love how this item plays with imagery and dark colors for a truly artistic home piece.
Reminiscent of a quilt, this patchwork piece is a beautiful collage of red, blue, and white designs.
Appropriately titled Wise Friend, this green doormat features an enticing monkey.
Inspired by Apfel's collection of jewellery and textiles, this yellow rug makes for a beautiful statement piece.
Step into the jungle with this charming blue rug featuring a variety of animal illustrations. It's beautifully synonymous with Apfel's style.
Vintage textiles inspired this gorgeous, floral doormat. It's the ultimate way to make a first (and final) impression that will last with all who pass through your home.
