Decorative lighting is one of the best ways to infuse a home with some texture and personality, so it's no surprise that we are big fans of vintage sconces and pendants. So when we saw that Liv Tyler recently posted a clip of her wall light, it stopped us in our tracks.

The Lord of the Rings and Empire Records star showed off her Murano glass, palm tree-shaped pendant, which is evocative of the Art Deco movement in terms of its shape and materials. She can be seen feather dusting it to maintain its spotless finish, and it's certainly a wall fixture worth preserving.

Design experts explain that Art Deco lighting is informed by opulence and unique silhouettes, which are on full display with Liv's sconce. Adopting a uniform, Art Deco aesthetic to the home, through lights and other accessories, will make it all the more cohesive, design experts tell us.

'This is the period where architecture really started to change,' interior designer and advisor to Vinterior, Zoe Newson, explains. 'The decadence and detail were swapped for quirky shapes and unique styling, a mirroring of the famous Bauhaus architecture.'

She continues, 'As such, homes are so distinctive, I would always recommend keeping the decor interior in keeping with the exterior; otherwise, the home can look a little disjointed. This is particularly important in your lighting choices.'

She says that looking for eclectic materials, shapes, and sizes, will be what makes your light fixture stand out.

'Art-deco chandeliers are characterised similarly to the properties themselves - often unconventional and always interesting. For your hallway, or even to go above a table, I recommend something with a warm hue.'

This gold picture light from Wayfair is perfect for highlighting any wall art, while this set of Murano glass pendants from Chairish is a perfect dupe for Liv's.
