When a product carries Martha Stewart’s name, it is usually associated with thoughtful craftsmanship and a design that remains relevant over time. That combination is central to her approach to homeware, and it is especially clear in her cream upholstered accent chair, which stands out as one of the most versatile pieces in her collection.
The Whitney Curved Solid Wood Upholstered Armchair (available at Wayfair) is designed to sit comfortably within a room without overwhelming it. Upholstered in a soft cream fabric and finished with a smooth swivel base, the accent chair adapts easily to a wide range of interiors, from modern living rooms to bedrooms or reading corners.
In minimalist spaces, it works well styled simply with a single patterned cushion and a touch of greenery. In more layered interiors, it provides a neutral foundation for bolder textiles, decorative rugs, and expressive wall finishes.
Although it looks like a considered investment piece, the chair remains relatively under the radar and is currently available from Martha Stewart's Wayfair collection at a reduced price. This makes it a timely option for anyone looking to add a flexible seating piece that will continue to work as their space evolves.
With its softly curved shape, this armchair balances visual appeal with everyday practicality. The seat and back are upholstered in jacquard natural hemp fabric, complete with a removable back cushion for added comfort. Finished in a warm beige tone, it provides a versatile base that can be easily styled with cushions and throws.
To elevate the area around a neutral accent chair, interior designer Hannah Connellan, lead designer at Revival by Design, highlights the importance of layering throughout the room.
'Visual and physical texture can really add depth and warmth, so think about multiple rugs around the space. This includes throw cushions in varying sizes, textures, and patterns, adding in wall coverings such as a patterned wallpaper or seagrass,' Hannah explains.
When it comes to accessories, Connellan suggests keeping arrangements simple while focusing on texture and proportion. 'Or add height or white hydrangeas that bring a wonderful freshness to a neutral scheme,' she says.

'Every room needs cushions and throws; they add a wonderful layering quality. Layering cushions in different sizes with different patterns and textures looks less formal than cushions in all the same size, print, and fabric. Throws add further cosiness and can often break up expanses of block color.'
To complete the look, we have curated a selection of chic throw pillows and blankets that pair naturally with a neutral accent chair. Each piece makes it easy to build a space that feels comfortable, considered, and cohesive.
Crafted in India from 100%, this pillow cover has a naturally textured finish and is framed with a generous tassel fringe that adds a subtle bohemian touch. It makes a distinctive finishing piece for an accent chair.
Combining a timeless silhouette with a striking high-contrast print, this cushion makes a bold statement on any sofa while remaining remarkably versatile.
This knitted cotton-blend throw is a practical choice for year-round use and is especially appealing in colder months. Finished in a classic black-and-white palette with tasselled ends, it adds a refined touch to any seating area.
When I add this cushion to my sofa, its earthy palette and hand-stitched stripes make a statement that’s both vibrant and refined.
I can’t get enough of this leather pillow; the subtle texture and neutral colorway bring both visual interest and timeless style to any seat.
I love how this textured cream pillow instantly adds a sense of calm and sophistication to my living room, with fringed edges that bring subtle charm to every corner.
Following Martha Stewart’s approach, this neutral armchair becomes a versatile centerpiece for any room. Pair it with cushions, throws, and carefully chosen accessories to create a space that feels both comfortable and thoughtfully designed – all for one of the best prices I've seen.
