The ’90s Did Halloween Better – 24 Nostalgic Decor Finds Bringing the Magic Back

Before Halloween got so high-tech, it looked like this

Hocus Pocus (1993). The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). Halloweentown (1998). The ’90s really put the soul in spooky season. It was a time before beige ceramic jack-o’-lanterns replaced real squash, when we cut things out together at long tables with friends. Costumes weren’t planned months in advance, and no one on the block had the same high-tech (legitimately frightening) animatronic setup.

You can (and should) rewatch the movies. Or bring some of the magic home with nostalgic Halloween decor. We don’t need to hang our (probably precious bamboo-viscose) sheets from trees, but little lit ghosts get at the idea. Orange paper lanterns offer all the creativity we were once forced to exercise, now with solar prowess we never could. Even classic cobwebs make a comeback, cluttering corners under the ghoulish glamour of tiny crystals. All very conducive to some old-fashioned, pre-social-media trick-or-treating.

Ahead, 24 decor finds harkening back to simpler, spookier times.
