This Zingy Green is Replacing Chartreuse This Summer – Shop 16 Finds in the Season's Most Surprising Color Trend

More livable than chartreuse but no less characterful, designers are using citron to wake up tired rooms this summer

If Brat Green’s distinctly club-kid brand of radioactive chartreuse was more than your cortisol (or kitchen) could handle, you may be relieved to learn it has a more approachable sibling trending for summer 2026.

More yellow-green than green-yellow, the citron color trend is still bright, still unexpected, but arrives without the sense that it’s about to ask where the after-party is. During the syrupy heat of late summer, the shade feels especially refreshing. Design consultant (and self-proclaimed citron supporter) Lucina Griffith compares it to ‘lime and ice in a cold drink under dappled shade,’ evoking ‘new leaves of a beech tree in spring, or young ferns uncurling themselves in the woods’ and promising ‘sunshine and shade at the same time.’

Portuguese ceramic house Bordallo Pinheiro has been working with citron since the 19th century, but its more recent Maria Flor collection proves the shade still has plenty of life left in it, animating hyperrealistic stems and petals with cheerful intensity. Newer names like GreenRow, meanwhile, have scattered citron across bedding, tableware, and planters, giving the color a renaissance far beyond the fruit bowl.

Lucinda Griffith grounds citron’s zesty energy with warm wood tones, creating a bedroom that feels surprisingly serene.
