Designers Say Tassels Are Replacing Skirted Furniture as the Cooler 'Grandma' Detail for 2026 – 16 Finds We Love

The most stylish rooms are officially flying the fringe flag

Skirts are out, tassels are in. That was among the clearest trend takeaways from this year’s WOW!house, where designers including Sara Cosgrove, Studio Enass, Zardi & Zardi, and Sean Symington overwhelmingly favored fringe as their ‘grandma’ detail of choice, swapping last year’s skirt obsession for the new dated-detail-du-jour.

Shea McGee, who played no small part in pushing skirted furniture into the mainstream, appears to have already moved on. In her latest collection for Target, tassels have landed on antique brass side tables and burl wood nightstands, while Anthropologie is making it possible to add fringe just about anywhere, from coffee tables to sneakily swanky bathroom hardware.

And since there’s no talking tassels without hotels, it’s worth noting that hotspots such as New York’s Hotel Chelsea and Los Angeles’ Chateau Marmont have been flying the fringe flag for decades – and arguably have never been cooler for it.

Drapes, pillows, lampshades, furniture – nowhere is safe from the tassel trend in 2026. Not that we’d want it to be. Sorry, grandma: we’re keeping the curtain ties.
