H&G Summer Series – Lunch at Chatsworth House and Gardens, July 11

We'll also take a private tour of Chatsworth’s stunning garden

Homes & Gardens' centenary celebrations continue with a private tour of Chatsworth’s stunning garden, followed by a three-course lunch with head gardener Steve Porter and H&G’s Editorial Director Sarah Spiteri. We couldn't wish for a more elegant setting for a birthday gathering. Home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, Chatsworth has been based down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family.Sir William Cavendish acquiredChatsworth manor for just £600 in 1549, though it was dramatically remodelled in the 17th Century by his great-great grandson, the1st Duke of Devonshire.

Today, Chatsworth contains works of art that span 4,000 years, from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash. There are over 30 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery.

Just as stunning are its gardens, set across more than 1,000 acres and looked after by Steve's 20-strong team. The gardens are famous for their many appearances on the big and small screen, of course, but also for theirhistoric and modern waterworks and sculptures, Victorian rock garden and impressive maze.

During our special event, having enjoyed morning tea and cake in the Hartington and Burlington rooms, you'll take an exclusive tour of the stunning garden with head gardener Steve Porter. Steve first came to Chatsworth in 2007 as assistant head gardener, so has tended to its spectacular lawns, beds, trees and topiary for 12 years now. He will explain the history of the garden, point out some recent new additions created by leading garden designers and talk about the many varieties of flora and fauna on show.

Next, you'll join Sarah Spiteri for that three-course lunch with wine; while Steve will share more of the history of the garden, and there will be the chance to ask any questions you may have.

Event details: 10am-2pm on 11th July 2019 at Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1PN.

We look forward to seeing you at Chatsworth.
