Susie Atkinson to unveil brand-new Laid Bare furniture collection at Clerkenwell Design Week
Simple designs and durability are the stars of the show.
Designer Susie Atkinson is set to unveil her new Laid Bare furniture collection at Clerkenwell Design Week – a range of refined, British-made furniture with materiality, quality and craftsmanship at its core.
The chic new pieces are ideal for a spring interiors refresh, from stylish daybeds and reclining chairs to sleek desks and side tables.
With her expertise at designing some of the best-known interiors in the country, including Soho House, as well as many private homes around the world, Susie has developed this collection in response to her difficulty at finding beautifully made, quality furniture pieces that have a timeless aesthetic and will work equally well in traditional or contemporary interiors.

As the Susie Atkinson Laid Bare collection name suggests, this edit of furniture has been created with a deceptively simple design language to allow the beauty and tactility of the materials and the makers’ expertise to take centre stage. Each piece has been handmade in Britain using quality natural materials with a particular focus on British oak, chosen for its strength, durability and individually beautiful grain.
Susie has hand-picked the makers of these pieces, believing that we should be championing our local craftsmen and enabling their skills to endure.
Susie commented: ‘I wanted this collection to celebrate the enduring beauty of quality pieces, and what it means to have something handmade using the best materials. It is important to me that these designs stand the test of time and are made in the most sustainable way possible. This was an exercise in restraint and consideration as I wanted each piece to work very hard but not to take over a room.’

This daybed with its solid oak frame and hand-woven rush seat is a modern take on traditional, English country furniture. The elegant oak legs are turned, with button-foot details, and contrast beautifully with the rustic rush seat. This is a truly unique design – for both traditional and contemporary interiors and can be ordered with or without the bespoke mattress-style cushion.
THE CRAFTMAKER'S CHAIR, £950
Simple and timeless, this chair fits into all interior styles, from contemporary chic to country pads. Handmade and finished using either Danish cord or rush seating, with tapered legs and a gently curved back, this makes a comfortable dining or side chair. Available in painted, natural mid oak, or ebonised oak finishes.
THE SLIDER RECLINING CHAIR, £1,950
Inspired by an original arts and crafts chair, this sleek and comfortable recliner with feather-filled cushions would be perfect in a garden room or reading nook. Available in painted, natural, or ebonised oak finishes, with bespoke fabric cushion.
THE SIDNEY SIDE TABLE, £1,650
This side table with clean lines and a subtle reference to geometry works well in both modern and classic interiors, either as a bedside or a side table. It's available in different wood finishes and stone tops.
THE CASPER COFFEE TABLE £2,500
With its octagonal legs, contrast detailing and leathered granite top, this is a pared-back but beautifully crafted coffee table. It's timeless, elegant and suitable for any interior with a solid pale oak with veneered shelf and black leathered granite top.
THE DULCIE DESK IN MID OAK £3,950
Originally designed as a bespoke piece for a bedroom at Lime Wood Hotel, the Dulcie desk with two drawers, brass escutcheons and key has a beautiful, soft leather top. Made of solid oak, it has an elegant feel with banding details to the octagonal legs. Available in natural or ebonised oak and with two different coloured leather top options.
THE DIGBY DESK £3,800
The two-drawer Digby desk has drawers running across the whole width of the table. With a soft leather top and beautiful brass escutcheons and key, the elegant design would work just as well as a console, a writing desk or a dressing table.
