Fashion Designer Todd Snyder Wants Your Home To Look Like It Has Its Best Suit On – and His Debut Decor Collection With CB2 Can Make That Happen

Todd Snyder's CB2 collection is a masterclass in craftsmanship and tailoring, and it reminds us that fashion and interiors are more connected than we realize

When Todd Snyder designs a collection for his namesake menswear brand, he starts by envisioning the life of its wearer. Hundreds of questions dance in his head – from wondering what type of car they drive to questioning their taste in music and their morning coffee order.

For Todd, designing clothes is so much more than simply stitching fabric together to make a final product. It's about curating a world – a lifestyle – for the wearer. And now, Todd has given his wearer a home of their own with his debut home decor range with CB2, titled the 'Townhouse Collection'.

'I've always loved townhomes that have a warm feeling,' Todd tells me as he talks about his inspiration for this 65-piece collection that spans furniture, decor, lighting, and tableware. A townhome with an aesthetic that's not too cold or uninviting, but not overly cozy, is the sweet spot – the perfect 'middle ground', Todd says. That's the aesthetic he's created through his collection with CB2; the furniture and decor he's designed for his wearer.

This collection is a 'full-circle moment' for Todd, having designed many of his brand's stores and having helped his mother with interior design projects when he was a child.

The collection marks Todd's first official venture into the world of interior design. However, he's no stranger to this industry. Growing up, Todd was constantly in tune with the design scene, thanks to his mother, who worked as an interior designer. He spent his childhood helping her at shoots or with various projects, making interior design a significant part of his upbringing.

Not only that, but Todd's used his interior design sensibilities to play a role in the design of each of his brick-and-mortar stores, too. So, despite the fact that he's a fashion designer by trade, the interior design gene clearly exists within him. And with this collection, it has its moment to shine.

'My father and mother always taught me that dressing well is a sign of respect for other people. It can show people that you take them seriously and that you have respect. And I think it's the same way in interiors,' Todd remarks. Elegant pieces from the collection, like the Tribeca Credenza and the Atelier Lamp, can dress your home well, signifying that you treat your living space with the respect it deserves.

Take a look at the collection, and you'll notice its refined, elegant, and sophisticated mood. This stems from its modernist undertone – a design style that Todd highly admires. Clean lines, natural materials, sleek silhouettes, and an undercurrent of timeless minimalism span the collection. But to prevent it from looking too cold (which can sometimes happen with modernist design), Todd infused the collection with soft, sumptuous textiles that give it a feeling of warmth and connect the collection with what Todd knows best – fashion.

'I wanted to infuse what I know about apparel into the collection,' the designer tells me. This is evident through the soft furnishings – like the structure and softness of the Mayfair Velvet Chair or the delicate pleating on the Ruched Velvet Throw Pillow, to name a few.

But Todd's fashion sensibilities manifest in other ways, too. The Valet Chair, for instance, is a direct nod to fashion with its wing-shaped back that's perfect for holding a suit jacket. Less obvious is the Atelier Brass Lamp, a sleek table lamp with subtle perforations around the rim of its shade that were inspired by buttonholes.

According to Todd, a shearling jacket is a staple in his menswear line. He adapted the texturally rich material into his homeware collection with this oh-so inviting Mayfair Shearling Accent Chair.

'I wanted to design a very beautiful collection that all goes together, but looks like it can stand on its own,' Todd tells me. Evidently, he was able to do just that. And at the same time, he was able to make pieces of heirloom-quality – pieces that you'll have (and want to have) for years to come. Bring any of them into your home – from something small like the Archivist Catchall Dish to something large like the Flatiron Daybed – and they'll look like they've always belonged, while simultaneously elevating the space with a touch of sophistication.

That said, if there's one piece that'll become the showstopper of a room, it's the Mayfair Shearling Chair. Todd calls it the 'sportscar' of the collection, or, as he explains, the standout, the highlight, and the most desirable piece. Texturally rich and endlessly inviting, Todd says this is the chair that he'll covet forever.

Juxtaposition is one of Todd's favorite words. The idea of mixing and matching, blending inspirations, and compiling references into one collection sounds daunting, but Todd and the CB2 team were able to make it happen in the Townhouse range.

There's no denying the inherent connection between fashion design and interior design, and the ways in which these creative fields continuously influence and impact each other. Todd Snyder's Townhouse Collection at CB2 explores that to the fullest extent, translating the craftsmanship, tailoring, and refinement of menswear into pieces that can outfit your home.

'This collection should make you feel like you've got your best suit on,' Todd muses. 'Whether you're welcoming in guests or just using it day-to-day with your family, it should make you feel like 'you've got this'''.
