Alison Roman Says This Coffee Maker Is Easy to Use, Perfectly Sleek, and Brews Hot Black Coffee Just the Way She Likes (for Under $400)
The chef says she can't live without the Moccamaster 10-cup coffee maker, explaining that the cream colorway 'blends seamlessly' into her kitchen
When it comes to kitchen appliance recommendations, we trust chefs with their picks above pretty much anyone else. So when we saw that Alison Roman vouched for a drip coffee maker, we had to investigate.
'I was a diehard Chemex person my whole life,' she told the Strategist. 'And I have some good friends who had a baby before me, and they were like, “You’re not gonna wanna do that.” I can tell you right now what you’re not gonna wanna do, and that’s make a Chemex. I’m also not the kind of person who drinks coffee first thing in the morning all the time. I’m more of a 10:30, 11:00 a.m. coffee person. But I really, really rely on it. And I really like my hot black coffee in the morning.'
She revealed that her brewer of choice is none other than the Moccamaster 10-cup coffee maker (available at Amazon), a powerhouse, drip coffee machine that is as stylish as it is efficient.
'I have the white one because I just think it blends more seamlessly into my kitchen,' she explains.
'My cabinets are this kind of bluish color that my landlord will not let me paint. If I had white cabinets, I’d probably pick a pop of color, but because I don’t, I want a more neutral, vanilla-cream color. It makes perfect coffee, and it is sleek and fits in a tight, tiny space, and it’s easy to clean. Anyone can use it. It’s a mechanical system that I understand. The water goes in here, the water drips in the grounds here, and the coffee comes out here. I can use compostable coffee filters. It looks great. I love it.'
We're all for coffee machines that double as stylish countertop decor, and as Alison mentions, the cream color is incredibly versatile. It also comes in red, butter yellow, black and more, giving us plenty of options for different kitchen color schemes.
At under $400, it's a worthwhile investment for a durable, high-end coffee machine. Below, we have rounded up some alternative picks for the drip coffee-curious.
