I Thought It Was Too Early to Dream About Outdoor Furniture, but Amanda Seyfried’s Rattan Furniture Has Convinced Me Otherwise

Wicker and rattan furniture are staples for good reason. Its textured, natural materials add visual interest and a '70s aesthetic to any patio or living area the pieces are placed in.

Amanda Seyfried is on board with the trend, having shared a photo of her woven lounge chair on her Instagram page. The organic materials lend a rustic look to the porch, while the neutral cushions provide contrast and softness.

According to design experts, rattan is a fabulous choice for outdoor furniture, but it must be treated with care (particularly in relation to varying temperatures) for it to endure through the seasons.

'Synthetic rattan is a favourite choice for garden furniture,' says Lena Gierasinska, head of product and displays at Barker and Stonehouse. 'It’s UV-resistant and far easier to clean. Unlike natural rattan, it won’t go brittle or discolour if exposed to sunlight. That said, it’s not indestructible; extreme heat can cause warping, and it should still be covered when not in use. Think of it as low maintenance, not no maintenance.'

With that in mind, there are some excellent options on the market right now. This rattan armchair from Wayfair has a truly retro feel with its flared armrests, while this knitted outdoor throw pillow from Target features a fade-resistant design. This birch chair from Wayfair is also a fantastic option, featuring elegant, delicate weaving that is sure to transcend trends.

Regardless of your design preferences, wicker furniture is a style we are certain will continue to elevate outdoor and indoor spaces alike. It's never too early to start dreaming.
