Sorry to 2026's vibrant color trends, but Bad Bunny's sophisticated living room has convinced me to keep my palette entirely neutral
Bad Bunny’s effortlessly stylish scheme makes calm feel bold – challenging everything I thought I understood about color

We’ve reached that moment in the calendar when color authorities unveil their predictions for the shades set to dominate the year ahead. While these forecasts often highlight bold, attention-grabbing hues destined to make a statement in our interiors, it’s easy to overlook the colors that never go out of style. One such palette is neutrals.
The enduring appeal of neutrals is not lost on Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican rapper, who calls a penthouse at West Chelsea’s Jardim building home. Designed by Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld, the contemporary building is striking in its own right, yet, for me, it’s the penthouse’s cream living room that quietly steals the show. It's a space of understated sophistication that proves timeless elegance never goes out of fashion.
When styled incorrectly, neutral living rooms can risk feeling somewhat vanilla. However, Bad Bunny's space couldn't be further from this. He's layered minimalist cushions on his linen sofa and introduced juxtaposing textures with a marble coffee table and wooden accent chairs that give the space a Japandi-style aesthetic.
While it's easy to get caught up in the fun of color trends, his space has reminded me just how sophisticated neutrals can feel – and I'm not alone in my beliefs.

This natural bowl is robust, making for excellent decor and storage. I love its modern rustic aesthetic, perfect for tapping into the Spanish revival trend on any coffee table or sideboard.
Mimi Meacham, the founder and principal designer at Marian Louise Design, explains how decorating with neutrals is one of the chicest things you can do for your living room. Knowing how to layer them will ensure your space never feels dull, so you can enjoy their timelessness without them feeling flat.
'When working within a neutral color palette, it’s important to layer your walls and incorporate a variety of textures through textiles,' she says.
'Combining wall treatments such as plaster or wallpaper with artwork, warm light fixtures, and thoughtfully chosen window treatments adds interest and helps fully execute the design. This approach prevents the space from feeling flat while introducing depth and visual engagement.'

Investing in a statement rug and pillows with a decorative trim (much like this one from McGee & Co.) also brings this palette to life.
'I recommend mixing cozy rugs with neutral seating fabrics to create a foundation of comfort and refinement,' Mimi says.
'To further elevate the design and add personality, consider using pillows with unique trims or tapes. This introduces subtle pops of texture and visual interest without overwhelming the serene neutral palette.'
When in doubt, look to Bad Bunny's living room for the ultimate neutral blueprint.
