With Christmas around the corner, a question looms: reinvent the wheel with imaginative Christmas decor, or opt for a classic, traditional, and reusable festive set-up?

Goldie Hawn makes the case for the latter with her classic Christmas tree, which displays an eternally chic combination of green pine with multi-color lights. It's a fantastic, sustainable Christmas idea.

According to design experts, overdecorating a tree can detract from an understated yet impactful Christmas design scheme.

'While glitter and tinsel can feel nostalgic, overusing them gives a room a dated, overly shiny appearance,' Josh Branigan, a furniture and home interiors expert at homeware retailer Cuckooland. 'When every item sparkles, the eye has nowhere to rest, and the effect can quickly move from glamorous to gaudy.'

Rather than collaging a tree with tons of metallics, Josh suggests strategic touches of shiny material alongside multi-color lights, like Goldie's.

'Instead, opt for subtle, intentional shine,' he says. 'A few metallic baubles, a satin ribbon, or a touch of gold on a wreath adds festive elegance. Choose materials with soft finishes such as brushed metal, velvet, or linen to balance the sheen. When used sparingly, shimmer catches the light beautifully and creates a festive feel that’s both modern and refined.'

He continues, 'Balance, restraint, and intention are the key to an elegant Christmas interior. Quality always outweighs quantity, and thoughtful styling creates warmth and harmony that no amount of glitter can replicate. By choosing a cohesive theme, using high-quality materials, and paying attention to proportion and lighting, your home can look festive and effortlessly stylish this Christmas.'
