I’d Been Wavering Over Colorful Kitchen Islands, but Jennifer Flavin Stallone’s Has Sealed the Deal – It’s the Chicest Shade I’ve Seen This Year

Her powder blue kitchen island makes a bold, yet elegant statement – it's a reminder of the hue's enduring power

Jennifer Flavin Stallone is so elegant that in the below Instagram post, she's even coordinated her chic outfit with her kitchen island shade. Colorful kitchen islands have been something of a hot topic in interior design, but catching a glimpse of the model's elegant blue island in her home has totally sold me on how stylish they can be.

In fact, our Kitchens Editor, Molly Malsom, called it one of the biggest kitchen island trends of 2026. She explains: 'Colorful kitchen islands are a huge trend this year, and it's all about contrast. In a neutral scheme, introducing a colorful island creates visual interest and infuses the space with a bit more personality. An island is the central hub of the kitchen, so it makes sense to bring color in here.'

If you're designing a kitchen island, your first thought may be to match the color and style of your cabinets, however, opting for a contrasting shade, like Jennifer Flavin Stallone can create a real impact.

Michael Hartel, Founder & CEO of Cabinet IQ explains 'Colored kitchen islands work because they anchor the space. In most kitchens, perimeter cabinetry tends to stay in neutral whites, creams, and warm woods, so the island becomes the natural place to introduce personality. It acts almost like a piece of furniture. When you paint or finish it in a different color, it reads intentionally not busy.'

Choosing accent pieces in your kitchen island shade will help to tie the look together, such as kitchen accessories, cookware (like a classic Le Creuset pot in matching Chambray from Crate & Barrel), or even art, rather than swamping the space with the color, which could overwhelm the scheme or reduce the impact.

When trying out different ideas that involve color, keep the rest of your scheme more neutral – natural wood, stone, and marble finishes, as well as soft metallics, work beautifully with the powder blue of Jennifer Flavin Stallone's kitchen island. And we love the contrast of the pure white orchids that she's styled with it (find a similar white orchid at The Sill).

Juliana Mackin, Principal Designer at Hemenway House Interiors adds: 'Sometimes having a bold color for the cabinets can be overwhelming or too busy, so having that color on the island is a nice alternative. It's particularly great for bringing in color when you want a lighter, brighter kitchen, without it feeling too sterile.'

Like the idea of a colorful kitchen island, but can't decide on a shade? Take inspiration from the kitchen color trends for 2026, which include muted pastels like Jennifer Flavin Stallone's powder blue, deep jewel tones, and greens, then layer your kitchen with accent pieces in the same hue for a cohesive look.
