Kacey Musgraves Saved Her 100-Year-Old Family Farm and Transformed It into a Texan Landmark – It’s a Bubblegum Retreat in the 'Middle of Nowhere'
Part art installation and part family tribute, this country landmark establishes a new benchmark for how artists share their history
In Kacey Musgraves's small East Texas hometown, a sign reads: 'Somewhere in the middle of nowhere.' Followers of the musician will already know this is a nod to her new album, 'Middle of Nowhere,' but it's also the site of an unexpected, bubblegum-pink landmark: her childhood home.
Kacey has partnered with Zillow to reimagine a conventional property listing, and, in doing so, has turned her former home into an immersive experience.
The home and land it sits on have belonged to her family for over a hundred years. After the death of her grandmother, who lived in the farmhouse next door, Musgraves saved it from being sold and painted it pastel pink to honor her legacy.
Article continues belowAlongside the pink paint, this delightful casita has a front porch made for long conversations and slow-burning mornings, while inside, Kacey has thoughtfully preserved the home's original details.
Inside the home, the aesthetic is a curated masterclass in 'new pastoral' design, where century-old heritage takes center stage.
Kacey eschewed a total gut renovation in favor of preserving the home’s soul, keeping the original wood floors and vintage architectural bones that have defined the property for over 100 years. In more recent decades, it was the setting of her early years, where she wrote her first song and first connected with music. The rural setting continues to shape her perspective and her art, as she releases her sixth studio album.
The interior layout is designed around the concept of slow living, featuring high ceilings and sunny corners that emphasize the home's natural resonance and 'great acoustics.'

Every room acts as a physical extension of the album, Middle of Nowhere, blending weathered Texas textures with soft, ethereal finishes. From the deliberate placement of family heirlooms and antiques to the hidden album clues woven into the decor, the space functions less like a house and more like a high-concept artist’s retreat. 'It’s the kind of place where silence doesn’t equal loneliness. It means your thoughts have room to breathe,' the listing reads.
