Some argue that floral patterns in the home transcend trends; however, it's indisputable that they were a particular design staple in previous decades, like the '60s and '70s. As with so many fads from the past, they have been making a major comeback lately, and many are choosing to introduce them into the home in big ways.

Take Kendall Jenner: the model recently shared a snap of her living room set-up to her Instagram page, and her flower-covered sofa is the star of the show.

Kendall's pink and green couch sits beautifully next to a low-profile, wood coffee table, where stacks of decorative books are neatly dispersed along the perimeter. A vase of fresh flowers ties everything together. It's officially the blueprint for fantastic floral decor ideas.

According to design experts, introducing retro-inspired florals into the home is a strategic process, wherein styling is crucial to making these pieces look modern rather than dated.

'We all know and love '70s floral and geometric prints,' explains Hannah Thistlethwaite, interior expert at Heals. 'Often garish and bold, these prints can very quickly make a modern home look dated, so incorporating them has to be done with care. The trick is to go small. Adding in small pops of the popular prints is a subtle and tasteful way to nod to the '70s trend. Things such as wall art are a great way to invite playful patterns into a space without being overwhelming.'

We can see that Kendall has balanced out her floral sofa with natural materials, such as the wood coffee table and a collection of books. Hannah says that opting for one statement piece is definitely the way to go when it comes to floral decor.

She continues, 'If you are feeling brave and want to go a little bolder, then a printed rug with a muted colour palette can also work, just keep this as the focal point of the room and avoid adding any more patterns that could make the space feel busy and chaotic.'
