This Farrow & Ball shade is Lena Dunham's favorite paint color – and it taps into an enduring design trend
The writer proves that pink paint is here to stay, having shared that her entire bedroom is painted in this chic, mauve hue
It's hard to believe that we are nearly a year out from the height of Barbiecore fever, but some of us are still thinking pink when it comes to our interiors. The delightfully feminine color has proven its versatility in the home, with dusty rose and mauve shades providing sophistication while bright hues tap into the dopamine decor trend.
Ahead of the craze, actor, writer, director, and Girls creator Lena Dunham revealed that she has painted an entire room of her London home with pink – in fact, she even revealed the exact paint shade she loves to use in a blog post for Drew and Jonathan Scott, AKA The Property Brother's blog.
'Our bedroom is different shades of pink, my favorite being Rangwali by Farrow & Ball—it’s oddly relaxing for such an out-there color,' Dunham states in the blog post. 'I can say with confidence that I’ve never painted anything white.'
The most adventurous of all Farrow & Ball's pinks, Rangwali is incredibly friendly and takes its name from the powder that is thrown so enthusiastically during the Holi festival of colors in India.
Described by Farrow & Balls as an 'exotic and adventurous pink,' Rangwali is punchy and vibrant, yet its slight black pigment makes it versatile against neutrals and other colors. According to experts, there is no one-size-fits-all mood that pink encompasses; rather, it is highly dependant on the shade to determine ambiance.
'From joyful pink to rose tones, the color pink can help influence an array of moods across the home, depending on the shade you go for,' says Catherine Jacob, the head of design at Hovia. 'Vibrant pink colors can be an excellent option for those looking to brighten up a room with a maximalist approach while subtle pink hues can help create a relaxing and calming atmosphere.'
When decorating with pink, it's important to consider the other colors that will be used in the space. While Dunham is not a fan of white, Jacob says that it is one of the colors that undoubtedly pairs well with a pink shade.
'Pink works especially well when paired with colors such as blue, white, and cream,' she explains. 'However, if you are looking to achieve a more maximalist look, don’t be afraid to get creative by introducing greens and yellows into your space. We are still seeing the ripple effect of Barbiecore moving through from fashion to interiors. Additionally, celebrity figures, such as Cara Delevigne, have been seen to favor vibrant and bold color choices across their home, proving that it is still popular to go all in with color.'

Finally, consider how pink will be implemented in a space. Paint is an obvious choice, but there are alternative methods to infuse a pop of color, such as accents and furnishings.
'Depending on your interior aspirations as well as the purpose of the room, there are a handful of ways you can style a pink space,' Jacob states. 'Styling complimentary colors together through soft furnishings and home accessories while adding atmospheric lighting and natural elements such as houseplants, are just some examples of how you can enhance your pink space to create a more homely and comfortable feel.'
For a failsafe starting point (that translates beyond the bedroom), we can't get enough of these picks below.
A vase that matches the beauty of the flowers it holds, this vessel is crafted by hand for a stunning and unique appearance.
We recommend starting small with pink decor for anyone with mostly neutral spaces; however, as Dunham proves, a pink-painted space can provide a room with an immediate sense of joy and vibrancy.
