Don't Settle For a Boring Accent Chair – Nicole Kidman's Luxe Choice Will Make Any Living Room Corner Instantly Elegant
It’s the understated willow hue that defines quiet luxury, hiding in a sunny corner in the actress's home
There's something to be said for an accent chair that feels just as fashionable today as it did when I first saw it six years ago. Such is the case with Nicole Kidman's soft green piece that first graced Instagram back in 2020.
Nicole's position as this year's Met Gala co-chair gave me another opportunity to revisit her Instagram, and I couldn't help but stop on this picture of her light-green, velvet-style chair.
While I'm accustomed to writing about many neutral accent chairs in various celeb homes, there's something about green that has a quiet sense of luxury. Anti-trend neutrals will always have their place, but there's something about green that feels slightly more fun while still being classic. This chair from Amazon is a stunning alternative. I love its tufted upholstery, just like we see in Nicole's living room.

This green velvet accent chair pairs a classic button-tufted backrest with sleek gold metal trim and legs, creating an elegant, contemporary feel. With its refined mid-century modern style, it is the first step toward mastering Nicole’s look.
Opulently tailored with Chesterfield-inspired details, this sofa features plush button tufting, scrolled arms, turned legs, and refined nailhead trim for an upscale look. Upholstered in 100% polyester velvet, it delivers a soft, lustrous finish that Nicole would surely love.
Amazon is a surprisingly strong source for affordable throw blankets. For a lighter layer to pair with chunkier knits, muslin works beautifully, offering a soft texture and an easy, relaxed feel.
A large jute area rug makes the perfect foundation for layering a smaller vintage rug. Its low pile keeps the look comfortable underfoot without adding bulk, and it looks especially great styled next to a green accent chair.
A refreshing yet cozy moss green throw pillow complements a range of sofas, from cream linen to rich chocolate brown. It also pairs beautifully with a moss green sofa for a layered, tonal look.
Jacqueline Wens, the founder of Jacqueline Wens Interiors, reiterates the power of choosing such an elegant tone, noting that it can evolve as the sun rises and sets throughout the day.
'I styled a room like this recently, and we opted for a velvet reading chair in muted green. I find this to be one of the most forgiving and beautiful upholstery choices to add color to a space. This chair, in particular, shifts tone with the light throughout the day,' Jacqueline explains.
'Lime green and brighter greens in general are a little trickier since those colors can sometimes float if not grounded. But if you can pair it with a linen sofa, for example, and warm wooden floors or a rug, it anchors the piece. Lime greens also work best in rooms with plenty of natural light, as they can feel harsh in more dimly lit rooms.'
Nicole has added a black-and-white floral-patterned pillow (much like this one from Wayfair) to her chair. However, for a chair this beautifully colored, it's not always necessary to follow her lead directly. Instead, add a neutral throw, then soften the surrounding area with other raw materials.

'If the chair is going to be the focal point of the room, no need for a pillow. What you can do is throw a natural linen or oatmeal blanket over the arm. Since the color is already striking, it’s important to surround it with natural materials and textures to soften it. I love a nice jute rug or raw wood where possible,' she says. 'It's also important not to try to match the green anywhere else in the room since the chair is the statement piece.'
