Stanley Kubrick's Victorian home is a treasure trove of eclectic British antiques and accessories – and it's on the market now
The UK home, where Stanley lived from 1965 to 1979, features nine bedrooms and 7,700 square feet of space, and it's listed for approximately $9.4 million

Stanley Kubrick's films are breathtaking for their fleshed-out plotlines and engaging characters, sure, but the interiors are equally as compelling (who can forget the Overlook Hotel and its austere hallways). It makes sense, then, that the acclaimed director's own estate is just as intriguing.
Now, someone has the chance to take over the property, as Abbots Mead, his Victorian, Hertfordshire home where he worked on 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange, among others, has hit the market for £6,950 million (approximately $9.4 million)
He purchased the property in 1965 and lived there for 14 years, and its bones remain delightfully preserved. A focus on natural materials such as wood and marble, and ornate patterns, from floral curtains to Persian rugs, dominates the nine-bedroom property. It's one of the most interesting spins on the enduring French country style that we've seen.
'Quite apart from its history, Abbots Mead is a handsome period house in its own right – enjoying a secluded position in a highly regarded road, adjoining open countryside and mature woodland,' says property agent Steven Spencer, head of office at Savills Rickmansworth, in a press release. 'Well-proportioned rooms provide generous family space with a sense of grandeur, while mature trees at the garden boundaries ensure plenty of privacy and are the perfect backdrop to a beautiful setting.'
Let's have a look inside.
The sitting room is bright and airy, with large windows allowing light to stream into the ornamented room. Striped sofas, a floral rug, and a wood coffee table give the room a traditional, regal feel.
The Regency-style continues into the dining area, with handcrafted wood chairs surrounding a red-clothed table. The iron mantel in the back hosts a wood clock, while the gold chandelier adds some luxe elegance to the room.

The bathroom is one of the most interesting spaces in the home, making the case for wood bathtubs, and/or tubs placed in the center of the room with a headboard, like a bed (it's a unique twist on the alcove bathtub). The floral curtains and wood vanity contribute some vintage charm to the room.
The greenhouse-turned sitting room is an absolute highlight, with a collection of floral couches (as well as real flowers) allowing for a peaceful place to gather outside the home.
Meanwhile, the kitchen has a rustic, farmhouse-feel, with its wall of dishes, wood table and chair set, and antique-style light pendant.
The bedroom is a delightfully eclectic mix of patterns, materials and colors, with a blue Persian rug, floral curtains, and a solid wood bedframe and nightstands complementing each other perfectly.
This Turkish-made oriental rug showcases a medallion pattern in purposefully distressed blue and white hues that, once again, master the French country design trend. It's also designed to withstand spills and direct sunlight.
This microfiber quilt and sham set exhibits a lively medallion pattern in blue, aqua, and yellow on a light grey ground on the first side. You can reverse the sides to feature a more stylized floral pattern in blue and white, allowing you yet more ways to bring this tone into your bedroom.
Finally, the tranquil backyard features a swimming pool and plenty of room for patio furniture.
Stanley Kubrick's former home is listed with Steven Spencer at Savills.
