I never believed white curtains could feel special – but Zooey Deschanel’s simple, luxe version proved me wrong

I'll be honest; white curtains have never really been my thing. I have often associated them with clinical environments, like hospitals or corporate offices. That all changed, however, when I saw a recent clip of Zooey Deschanel's living room.

The space is decked out with pink accents, from the blush sofa to the rose-flecked, floral wallpaper. The white curtains, then, come as a welcome, neutral disruption among the color, with their panels gathered in bunches against the black-framed windows.

The white color is a perfect fit to the wallpaper, throw pillows, and blankets, while also serving as a light foundation for the windows, which reveal beautiful greenery. Safe to say, my mind has been changed around this curtain color.

As with any other neutral, white is an incredibly versatile color choice for the living room. Whether you are leaning into feminine shades of pink, like Zooey, or a fully natural space, a la organic modern, whites and creams are clearly an excellent choice to lighten and harmouniously bring together a space.

Additionally, these light hues allow for, and even encourage, experimentation. You can go for a durable, cotton curtain, or experiment with lace for a more vintage-inspired look. Alternatively, linen is a lovely choice for those looking to incorporate natural materials into their living spaces (and they look particularly beautiful with wood coffee tables).

Finally, you can experiment with different lengths and styles of white curtains depending on the aesthetic of your living space. White cafe curtains give off a French look, while gathered curtains, like Zooey's, are the ultimate (and subtle) luxury statement.

With plenty of ways to infuse personality into white curtains, I just might be trying them out in my own bedroom soon.
