Can a guitar be art? Though instruments are often beautiful, we rarely think of them as decor deserving of precious display space on our walls. Zooey Deschanel is challenging this assumption.

The actor took to Instagram to share a photo posing against her non-traditional gallery wall. In the background, three guitars are displayed horizontally across the white surface. They are hung at different heights to create a sense of interest and texture. Though the look is unexpected, it's surprisingly chic in Zooey's home. Plus, the guitars reflect her lifelong passion for music and penchant for playing the guitar, piano and ukulele.

Recreate Zooey's Look at Home

Megan Slack, head of celebrity style at Homes & Gardens explains: 'As we emerge from the quiet luxury era, designers and homeowners alike are looking for more cozy, characterful interiors that envelop visitors in the personality of the people who live there. This can be accomplished through using colors and patterns that you love, but it can also include more direct nods to hobbies or interests.'

She continues: 'We see the development of this interior design trend in Zooey's home, where the hobby is the decor. Rather than investing in additional pieces that reflect her interests, the actor uses her own collection to adorn her walls. This evolution treats guitars as art.'

Luckily for those who admire Zooey's look, it's easy to recreate in any home. Megan advises: 'Whether your interest is guitars, sports, records, or travel, the only thing necessary to follow the actor's example is good hooks. Try mapping out your design before you apply it to your walls to make sure you like the way it all the pieces fit together. As Zooey's home shows, there's no "wrong" way to master this trend.'

If something like guitar is your true passion, why not turn it into your decor? Our homes shine the brightest when they are built of the things that truly inspire us and fill us with joy.
